Having sexual relations with a 17yo school child isn't illegal. I like many on here think it's a serious breach of morals and creepy to do so. If your image relies on you being a whiter than white, self confessed feminist it might cause you an issue or two.

A simple statement in that letter from her solicitors stating that all sexual encounters between the two were fully consensual and that allegations of non-consensual sexual behaviour were falsehoods.
I think Dunne my issue is with the total hypocrisy shown by McDermott. Not a crime. It's wrong that he was accused like this.
I just think his position as a broadcaster would be untenable going forward given the platform and image he portrayed. This is where I think the school child part should be emphasized. I think it was reprehensible for a person with the status of him to be a relationship with a school child. They are impressionable and will want to be showing off to their school mates etc. To me it he really doesn't come off well in the whole thing. She would have been a lot less mature than him and probably had zero experience of relationships with adult males. That's why I think if his legal team know she was xx years of age and not in school he sholud clarify it. That of course is dependent on whether he wants to make a comeback to broadcasting and expressing his view for all things woke and metoo to the public.
He didn't deny the non consensual allegations because then he would be admitting to having had a sexual relationship with the girl. Again another fairly carefully worded and thought out statements from his legal team and PR people.

There are a lot of presumptions in your post and to be honest, by throwing all those presumptions of his moral guilt and her alleged innocence, you are doing exactly what McDermott used to do with his moralising grandstanding. There are no credible reasons to believe that there was anything illegal or improper.
You either believe a 17 year old can consent to a relationship with any other consenting person of their choosing over that age or you dont.

Well a few posters have stated as fact that he was a teacher while in this relationship, others have posted that he committed oral rape, some others posted that he basically placed undue pressure on a female and coerced her into a relationship. Not to mention the claim over and over that he had sex with a child.
