Hopefully the Ukrainians have enough defenders and supplies to hold them off.
Yeah, more horse trading until they finally spit on hands and shake.
If he wanted to restore the Russian empire, it probably would have been better to go into Kazakhstan first and test the waters regarding international condemnation.
From what I can gather reading different media, the invaders are actually heavily outnumbered by defenders of the city. One wonders how they can possibly take the capital given their slow progress elsewhere.
Millions are in crisis indeed not due to any global shortage in food supply but rather inequality, corruption etc. In some parts of the world warlords still get to decide who gets the food, with corruption in the foodchain supply being widespread. Until that changes in those areas, nothing will and people will continue to go hungry regardless of what happens in Europe or Russia..
As detailed the world currently has a food surplus. If the production or availability of fertilisers is decimated for any reason then and only then does the world risk moving into a serious food supply deficit. It's at that point the **** really hits the fan.
Has there been anymore talk of Syrian forces bolstering up the Russian side ? Depending on the numbers, you'd imagine, an influx of seasoned, battle-hardened troops would add another dimension to the shape the war is taking.
Syria isn't secure yet. I'd imagine if this would happen, it would be like 400 of the best they've got. I don't think Syria can afford to send thousands. Russia also decreasing activity in Syria to divert resources to Ukraine, leaving Syria slightly more vulnerable.
No way to know the outcome of actions taken in advance.
The oil embargo against Japan led to the attack on Pearl Harbour. That was common wisdom at the time and since.
Sanctions might lead to WWIII - or help prevent it.
Some rumours, so they might be on the way. Russian military needs all the help it can get right now.
It could have been here that I saw this already.
Pretty sure he'd already had a chapter or two without needing to go on this caper, but maybe he wanted to be Stalin rather than Brezhnev.
Russia also has a Nazi problem. It even exported some of its Nazis to Israel.
Not convinced of the 12000 troops
Well the Russians declared the sanctions an "act of war" - but haven't actually done anything about it.
Hats off to Poland, they've taken 1.2 million refugees already
Amazing that he doesn't regard - say - Syrians as genuine refugees, but Ukrainians yes. What's the difference, Daniel? Tell us what you really think.
That's because oil has a world price - just because you live beside an oil refinery doesn't mean you're oil / petrol prices will be cheap.
Apart from that I totally agree, countries and individuals need to accept that things are going to have to change, consuming locally produced food, fish, etc is part of that. An EU wide power-production system utilising the vast range of renewable power sources within the EU imo has to be another. Self sufficient within countries and within the EU as much as possible.
It's the first genuine Refugee crisis in 30 years in this part of the world.
The same ex that wants to be reinstalled on a permanent basis along with the Russian army ..
Viktor Yanukovych can you send the tens of billions you stole from Ukraine back please
It may not be far wrong. There was a leaked Russian secret service report at the weekend which suggested that 10,000 Russian troops may have been killed.
It's closer than the Russian estimate. I've seen enough videos to know that more than 500 Russians have been KIA.
48 planes is also an exaggeration I think, as is the chopper count. I would half all those figures and you're in the right territory. Still an abysmal showing for the Russians.
'king hell. Are their troops these guys?
Vast majority of Middle Easterners coming over are economic migrants, not refugees. One only needs to look at the photo comparisons between Ukraine (women, children) and the boat loads of men in their 20s from the Middle East.
I have no issue with economic refugees. If I lived in an economically stagnant 3rd world country earning $10 a day, I'd get on a boat looking for a better life too. Doesn't mean we should let them all in.
Refugees from Ukraine are mainly women and children, from Syria it was mainly young men.
Following the effort yesterday ...
Oh certainly, there are a lot of nazis to be dealing with on both sides. Neither is close to squeaky clean in this regard. And we have to be somewhat careful in the midst of our 100% understandable support for Ukraine and support that shouldn't waver in the face of Russian aggression, that it's not nearly so simplistic as bad guys/good guys when you look deeper into the background of what was going on in the Donbas region.
