It absolutely involves taking out ground air defence systems. Not sure that applies to systems on Russian soil though?
Someone here might know more than I do about the subject, but I think NATO capability means they could strike with stand-off capability to stay out of S-400 range. Meaning they wouldn't need to attack Russian air defence systems on Russian soil.
Wouldn't Polish airfields be too far to be useful anyway, unless the fighting was over the skies in Western Ukraine?
