If Russia launches a ‘strike first’ on NATO planes from its own soil then we are in a totally different ball game.
NATO has superior power in this regard so it’s Russia that loses.
Something has changed with Putin. He doesn't give a **** about killing innocent Ukrainians. In fact they have purposely killed people and put landmines in humanitarian corridors to spite the agreements.
He will never be able to leave Russia again after this for he would be arrested and put before the Hague for the war crimes that are currently being committed.
He doesn't have a whole lot to lose taking all that into account. His position on the world stage is finished forever. The threat is to be taken seriously.
The longer this goes on, you'd expect that at some point the Russians will find a semi-competent military strategist that can deal with the supply issues and the issues of complete fragmentation of the various branches of military and units from each other. Not only a supply issue, but their comms are awful and in many cases unencrypted too. We've seen pilots and tank commanders working from coordinates scribbled in a notebook.

stupid argument unless you have some military training getting on a plane to Poland is a death wish. Those foreign legions I’m sure are trained soldiers or most have some background in it. Raw conscripts and civilian recruits should only fight for their own country when all other options are exhausted.
He's not changed from the Grozny days. That was complete devastation. I guess what's changed is that he doesn't seem to care how isolated/sanctioned Russia is. His desire to get Ukraine seems to override all that.
A few days ago, Vlad made mention of a nazi regime inviting jihadis from Syria to defend Ukraine. It's unlikely to be true, but if the jihadis want to settle a few scores it could prove to be a nightmare for Kadyrov.
No one should go and fight unless you have military training. You will just be a burden to your fellow fighters and may cause them to be killed trying to protect you.

He thought the Ukrainian army was weak and ineffectual like it was in 2014. He expected no real resistance and believed the Ukrainian army would fall away and surrender in a couple of days.

It wouldn't really, NATO would strike first by declaring a no fly zone and shooting down Russian jets. Russians will respond and sure NATO has superior power but then nukes comes into it and we're all dead.

True, he doesn't care about waging war, or turning his targets onto people that he believes stands in his way, but then again plenty of our own modern leaders in the west have also waged the same conflicts onto the backs of other ordinary people that they also didn't give a tinkers damn about. And they never utilized Nuclear war capability either.
Putin is an obvious ego-maniac. Everybody can see this from even his most half friendly, egotistical PR fire. Anybody that knows anything about modern Russia knows this as an absolute fact because, he managed to hold power there for so long. So, IMO, this guy, as an obvious Narcissistic, Egotistical person, is not going to be the one that solely chooses to open Nuclear war, and from that war - the ultimate destruction of his own power base and legacy, and ultimately his own legacy in his own history. Never going to happen. And there are probably 20 other people infront of him in the command chain to stop it from happening, even if he did $hit the bed and decide to go through with it. He can't set off the silos himself. He is ultilising the 'threat', and that has caused nearly as much damage without the apocalyptic scenario of all out Nuclear war. That is what he wants.

Yes Putin maybe a madman and rumours of his ill health maybe true but to assume he has the ultimate to power to press the big red button is wrong. Its known he has to go through layers and have the agreement of others to launch nuclear war. when it happens Russia is finished hence others within his cabinet will not allow it too happen.

You can bet that whatever fine is imposed on him will be taken care of from donations and rightly so. He has done more to highlight the atrocities being carried out by Russia than any of our politicians have done. And we need to be clear on this....this is not about putin invading and slaughtering it is about Russia invading and slaughtering!
Is it known? That those layers, as few as there may be, are not Putin sycophants? It’s not known as far as I have heard. The military analysts that I’ve listened to on the radio say that they genuinely don’t know the protocols in Russia
if you could link to someone who might genuinely know, conforming that there are robust protocols, that would be reassuring
