Wibbs, I am envious of your optimism, truly. I am not worried that Russia will go for a NATO country. I am worried that in his frustration, Putin will make wilder and wilder threats until eventually, a miscalculation of gargantuan proportions gets made, by either side. Pandora's Box has been opened.
China and Russia are not natural allies, but they are being pushed together. The Chinese leadership are motivated more by ideology than money, just like Putin. At this point, western noises are firmly ideological, too. And a man as learned as yourself presumably knows where that leads.

Sorry, but it's setting a terrible precedent to say that a despot like Putin should be allowed take a piece of territory despite the protestations of that territory's inhabitants, lest it make all our lives a bit harder or risk Armageddon. Where would that end, exactly? If we think someone is crazy enough to press the nuke button, then we should let them take over the world if they want and rule us all in perpetuity, doing as they please.
It is the right of the people of Ukraine to defend their land if they so choose. The people of Ukraine obviously do not Russian soldiers there, so the Russian soldiers should leave. If they won't, here we have our impasse.
And yes the west should be fighting too its our security too.

I can see Russia and China getting pushed more together. One day it will be China's turn to invade Taiwan and that will probably happen in the next few years. Darker days on the horizon. Probably a good thing even tho I didn't like it at the time but Nato not in Afghanistan, I could of seen Russia supply major supplies to the taliban to attack Nato soldiers seeing they would say same happening to them in Ukraine.

Also we are taking 100k ..that is 2% of our population ..not to be sneezed at ..but well ...lets face it ...this is not the issue with our housing situation our corrupt politicians are. And it could be easily solved by them and they don't want it solved and that is the truth.
Our housing issue is OUR OWN complacency and lax attitude on holding politicians to account.
I think it would only be if they thought Russia was in danger of being overrun/destroyed. I mean, that's what nukes are for. To stop you being destroyed. The threat of nuclear over a no-fly zone being imposed is a bluff. However, if a no-fly zone is imposed and Russians jets are shot down, they will obviously retaliate which would illicit more retaliation and eventually you end up in all out war which then has the nuke potential.

True but that time they were both on a collision course for war. China and Russia aren't at this moment of time. Nazi Germany and soviet Union were.
China has a trade surplus of over €500bn. Imagine what sanctions would do to a country of over 1 billion and to its notion of being a world power plus they'd have to fight the US and others. We've seen Russia perform here so the question would be are China actually any good?

These conditions seem somewhat....doable? It would certainly halt the killing and murdering of innocent civilians throughout much of Ukraine if this was genuine.
Knowing Russia, these conditions are the start...then you sit down with them to iron out a few details and find out exactly where you are...
