Frankie Boyle had a great line in one of his shows about the dual racism Irish immigrants got when coming to Glasgow. They were both assumed to be stupid and accused of stealing jobs. As Frankie says it was people basically saying - "we'd better stop importing all these idiots or else I'm gonna be out of a job".
I know the Russians are being fed all types of propaganda shyte, but there is no way in hell they are so gullible to believe that we have real tanks.

I don't think anyone is claiming that. However there is an embassy in Moscow which could provide some assistance to Irish nationals living in Russia (or even Ukraine!). If a Western country allows it's Russian Embassy to be attacked, don't be too surprised if the "Russian people" (I mean agents of the government) do similar over in Moscow. Why would the Russians have any reason to respect the diplomatic status of those people if they can claim that their people's statuses are not being respected.

There's often a conflation of all types of immigration. Most people do not oppose genuine war refugees. What we've seen over the years are mainly young men from the Middle East coming over as 'refugees', but they're in fact economic migrants.
Economic migrants from developing nations often do squeeze out indigenous low income earners. By the way, this was the position of the hard left up until 5 minutes ago. They were all for the 'workers'. Bernie Sanders was utterly opposed to low skilled immigration as was Corbyn.
Anyway suffice to say Ukrainians are genuine war refugees and each country needs to do their bit.

Russia has basically been kicked out of formal international finance, and is now very much much a star member of the global financial pariah's club, usually the countries that vote for them at UN.
I honestly don't know how anyone could begrudge women and children fleeing an actual war zone.
The men stayed at home to fight off a massive army in order to protect their homelands. Those people are coming here for refuge with an intention to return home. I hope that they do get to go home. Not because they aren't welcome but because it will mean that their home will have been salvaged.

It makes sense for refugees to travel to neighboring countries in times of war. I believe this was the original intention of the 1951 refugee convention. Ukraine borders with the EU, so of course we should try to help them as much as possible. I don't think it was originally meant that people from far away regions would all make a beeline to Europe.

It's about as genuine a refugee crisis as you're going to get. If that gets the cold shoulder, then all we can hope for is that war never comes to our own doorstep, because we know what the answer will be when we seek refuge.

Hot take, and I'll probably get tonnes of abuse for it here - but the hijacking of Ukrainian suffering by pro-Palestinian orgs like Amnesty and the usual mainly left wing Twitter commentators etc is pretty distasteful. There's no correlation and it also then makes these images look even sillier than they already were.
Refugees are not immigrants or migrant workers, so the issue of the housing crisis is not particularly relevant. They are people seeking emergency asylum and fleeing an active warzone.
On the issue of you paying taxes, it's very possible the Ukrainian refugees will be allowed find work here soon themselves and start paying taxes (now permitted in Ireland).
Why would Ukrainians go to the country that is killing and invading them? Or the dictatorship that is supporting that attack?

True, but then they can't all end up in Poland. The EU has to share the burden among its nations. Other non-European countries have already started taking in refugees. In WWII refugees eventually ended up in the likes of the US & Canada.
