That only tends to work on people in two minds, not on those who've already made them up. With those people it only reinforces what they already believe. IE the West is against us, even the Irish and we've never hurt them. Now we know they're American lackeys like the rest of them.
And that's been putin's angle throughout and long before this war too. It builds on the Soviet era paranoia and propaganda of the threat of the West, revved up by the seeming lack of Western support while thugs were raping their economy, then putin stopped that(only in their minds and his spin) and kept the liberal West as the background boogyman, a West who sees the Russian people as peasants and backward(that's a major sore point and insecurity in the Russian psyche). The other day their religious leader/primate bloke(whose richer than Croesus while many Russians struggle) was giving a sermon in support of putin(they're in each other's back pockets) and part of it was the accusation that Western nations only attack nations that don't allow Pride parades. Yeah... It can all be quite the alien world for much of the Western mind.
