Qualies action should begin tomorrow (December 31st) so time to get the thread underway.
Here's to hoping we'll see some great tennis/storylines this year.
Wow thats extortion.
The O2 is a horrible venue for tennis too, those upper decks are up very high and are steep.
They will have to slash the prices massively to get a decent crowd, nobody will pay those prices for a glorified exhibition.
I'd say wait until the week of the matches and you might get some sort of value.
Leylah Fernandez took the second set 6-4.
No Thiem in Indian Wells/Miami, hopes to return for the clay 😐
Is Djokovic playing Indian Wells or do is there are vaccine requirement for that tournament?
He's not playing, vaccine required.
I haven't been paying much attention to covid stuff the last few weeks but pretty sure you still need full vaccination for entry to the US. Although Jose Morgado just tweeted that he's apparently still on the entry list, so wouldn't be surprised if something was being worked out behind the scenes. I reckon Indian Wells/Miami will likely be the last two tournaments he's prevented from playing, should it come to that.
So it seems like it's ok to attack the umpire's chair once every 12 months and there won't be any punishment?
Good that there's clarity about that now.
Why not just give him the 8 week ban now? Hardly like any ticket sales will suffer if Zverev isn't there. Baffling why the ATP invite this bad publicity on themselves.
What happened to him accepting the consequences of his decision and not trying to circumvent any rules? 🤔
Another draw banjaxed. Couldn’t have done it yesterday or the day before, I suppose?
Was waiting for CDC to confirm that there wouldn't be any change to regulations, which they've just done.
What @whiterebel is referring to in case anyone hasn't seen the news 😛
Simona Halep won her second round match(her first in three sets.) Andy Murray 1-1 but up 5-4 in the third set.
And Emma raducanu is up next.
Andy Murray wins.
Good start here by Raducanu. Be good for her to get a run of tournaments. It's all been a bit stop start for her.
Yeah and as was pointed out by Sam smith on commentary, raducanu saying she wants to take it as it comes, is easier said then done given she’d the reigning US open champion.
Bit more of a test for Raducanu now. Enjoyed the Murray match earlier. 700 career wins, 1 of 4 active players on the tour with 700 career wins.
Into a 3rd set. Didn't think this would happen with the way Raducanu played in the first set.
He attacked his (now ex) girlfriend and seems to have got away with that so not surprised.
Allegedly attacked.
She is up a break!
Well it’s only one match but you’d think that win can only help her.
Good win for Emma, a good run here and Miami hopefully injury free would be great for her. Supposedly she has a hip injury, seems to be getting a few niggling injuries.
Garbine muguruza raced through the first set 6-0 and lost the second set 6-3 and is in serious trouble in the deciding set. Alison Riske is just playing better.
And she does lose the match having lost the third set 6-1 and she looked seriously pissed off.
I didn't have much faith in Muguruza winning this but even I didn't think she could lose from 6-0 3-0 up.
Meanwhile, Indian Wells not really caring too much about Norrie's title defence; he starts tomorrow on Stadium 5. Disrespectful perhaps, but he's still pretty unknown despite his great season last year. I actually can't even remember what he looks like without Googling.
Really nice gesture from Andy Murray.
Seems to happen a lot on the women's tour, where one player steamrolls her opponent in the first set only for it to flip completely the other way. Consistency seems to be unattainable (even within matches) on the women's.
Happened with Raducanu last night as well, won the first set 6-1 in 20 odd minutes then loses the second 6-3 before taking the third 6-1 but Muguruza takes the biscuit. She won the first 9 games and then just manages to win one more game after that. Riske won 8 games in a row.
