No I did not watch it. But watched it now. Doesn't change my opinion. Russia should be treated like a pariah state until they behave. Ukrainians are been killed over a million have fled their own country so far all because of Russia.
Ireland should take as many Ukranian refugees as we can. We also have to be strategic. If worst case scenarios come to pass re: food prices and shortages in the ME and Africa, there will be waves of refugees coming to Europe suprassing the wave now coming out of Ukraine.
Unless food, energy and fertilizer prices fall and the supply chain gets fixed, the population of the EU, including Ireland, could grow considerably over the next 2-3 years. Europe's working age population is on the decline and expected to get smaller despite current immigration levels, so there is an argument to be made that a refugee influx is what Europe needs to keep going. The stats are here. They are sobering.
What that worse case scenario would mean for current social programs and to what extent EU members may have to lower standard of living expectations over the coming years is anybody's guess. Let's hope it doesn't come to all that and that there is a cessation of hostilities soon.
Today was not a good day to be flying with a red star.
The US State Department has updated it's guidance for it's citizens. It's asking them to leave Russia immediately.
Do not travel to Russia due to the unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces in Ukraine, the potential for harassment against U.S. citizens by Russian government security officials, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, COVID-19 and related entry restrictions, terrorism, limited flights into and out of Russia, and the arbitrary enforcement of local law. U.S. citizens should depart Russia immediately.
U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Russia should depart immediately. Limited commercial flight options are still available. Overland routes by car and bus are also still open. If you wish to depart Russia, you should make arrangements on your own as soon as possible. If you plan to stay in Russia, understand the U.S. Embassy has severe limitations on its ability to assist U.S. citizens, and conditions, including transportation options, may change suddenly. U.S. citizens who are able to depart Russia for another country and are in need of emergency assistance upon arrival may contact a U.S. embassy or consulate in that country.
U.S. citizens should note that some credit and debit cards may be declined as a result of sanctions imposed on Russian banks. Also, there are some reports of cash shortages within Russia. U.S. citizens should make an alternative plan for access to money and finances if remaining in Russia.
Due to Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine, an increasing number of airlines are cancelling flights into and out of Russia, and numerous countries have closed their airspace to Russian airlines. In addition, airspace around southern Russia is restricted, and a number of airports in the area have closed. U.S. citizens located in, or considering travel to, the districts of the Russian Federation immediately bordering Ukraine should be aware that the situation along the border is dangerous and unpredictable.
I'd say a good chunk of this is to do with the rapidly deteriorating economic situation driven by the sanctions and the ever tightening access to basic financial services.
The last time Russia lost that many in a day or week was back in Afghanistan ,
I'd hate to the messenger who has to inform Vladi of the losses at end of every day
That's a huge one - means all VISA and Mastercards issued worldwide will not work in Russia and more importantly, those issued in Russia will not work outside the country.
The amount of companies pulling out of Russia is insane
Reports coming out of Russia saying supermarkets are putting limits on item's that can purchased at a time .
Adobe now too, how are they going to Photoshop swastika tattoos onto all the ‘nazis’.
Shell have basically zero morals can't say I am shocked they have plenty of form.
Does Russia have their own internal bank card like we used to have here before the debit cards came along (the name of it escapes me it was Laser)
If not then this will be royally screwing up the average Russians day - will cause a bank run no?
The Russians lost 15,000 soldiers in Afghanistan.
But it was over a 10 year period.
Relatively speaking, Ukraine has been very costly to them and its only Day 10.
Putin is finished, he will probably get the shove at the next election and be on a fat pension thereafter
I was told I had watched too much Con Air when I suggested that's what they should do earlier in the week. Couldn't be bothered to look for the genius who scoffed at the notion but you know who you are.
The grave digging happened before the Nato bombing. And the Serbs know they won't get into Europe cos...well they are Serbs. They like a bit of genocide so will so will suck at any teat that will allow them do that.
Another rigged election in 2024? If he wants to stay on he will....
Unless they take him out
I think there has already been massive runs on banks, plus their currency has taken a hit.
The UN is the most useless organisation on earth. A talking shop where nothing is achieved and everything is vetoed. How farcical is it that every member could decide to vote one out but that country can then veto that motion. Can't think of a single thing it's achieved bar sustaining a bunch of wafflers
The VISA and Mastercard decision is going to be seriously painful for ordinary people. I'd nearly say revolutions have started over less... They'll be alarmed.
I think he might 'choke' on a chicken wing sooner than that.. like very soon.
Seems all the (eastern European) currency's are weak. Polish Zloty and Hungarian Forint taking a big hit.
It said Moscow was particularly worried that portable anti-aerial Stinger missiles could end up in the hands of terrorists, posing a threat to airlines.
Lol at the Russians remembering Malaysia Airlines Flight 17...two faced scumbags.
RT headline tonight: 'British Broadcasting Corporation Attack Helicopter Downed by Heroic Russian Forces'
It's bound to make at least some Russian people realise despite the insane propaganda...maybe things aren't going so well with this war...
What's mentioned in the tweet below could be effecting things as well. One thing for certain is they are ripe to be picked off if they aren't moving.
Yeah but now they will need hard cash to pay for everything
The thing about a 50- 60 km convoy you cannot protect it unless you control everything for 100 km in Every direction and have 24/7 aircover ,
Take a few out at the front ,rear and middle and you then have one massive kill zone which they can't escape
I literally only seen that a few minutes ago , somebody knows their history
the Ukrainians are doing to Putins forces in the Kiev what Stalin did to Hitler in Stalingrad, how ironic is that, play a fool to catch a fool, shame whats going on around Kherson and Mariupol though as it seems they will be annexed and Odessa will be leveled soon by the Navy and Strategic bombers
Sanctions not working out as well as expected and France already backing down, advising their businesses not to leave Russia just yet.
