We should all stop and notice something very important about people doing the whataboutery bit. They pontificate on 'what about...' but never really follow through on the point. They just leave a space, there. They talk and talk of hypocrisy but say little on how that should inform actions toward the crisis at hand. What could they say?
"Yeah, well no-one was outraged about the Iraq war, so why should anyone be outraged about this one?" i.e. let's just be cynical about everything. Let the Russians do what they want. Use something that has been done to reduce support for something that could still be prevented.

This is very unusual and not sure if I believe it yet. Jewish law permits breaking the sabbath to save a life, so they could have rationalised it that way.
I suspect still a long way to go because Putin needs a 'win' of sorts. Trying to get him that 'win' will be the hard part. Obviously Ukrainians will agree to a ceasefire at any moment.
The Israelis don't mess around and I think Putin probably respects them for that.
If their PM has been invited to talks (and is going) that the best news in days, please let it be true.

The world needs a independent army, who job it is to maintain world peace. Every country should be required to put money into it. They then would be in the skies in Ukraine, and Putin would have no one to attack over it.

Thinking of places we could house people temporarily, thinking back to school about 20 years ago we went on retreats and outdoor activities to a place in Mountrath and ramsrgrange in south Wexford that were huge old buildings with proper facilities (showers etc). Why is anyone surprised anymore. We need to get over it, Putin is invading a country and wants to subjugate it, either as a puppet or to be annexed, same difference. All the **** that comes out of his mouth is irrelevant, his intentions are clear. If you are Ukrainian it is kill or run, if they surrender, there will be no mercy from Putin, he wants absolute control and nothing less.

There is absolutely no comparison though, all this horseshut about hypocrisy ignores the facts. Iraq violated several UN agreements, prevented the arms inspectors from doing their jobs, had carried out chemical attacks on civilians in the past and was ruled by a psychopathic dictator. Even Germany, who were against the war, stated it seemed likely that Saddam either had or was actively trying to acquire weapons of mass destruction, Ukraine is a democratic state that has violated no peace or arms agreements.

Many of our resident Putinbots and anti-Western critics and contrarians know they can't openly support Putin anymore. So instead many have adopted this tactic of being pedantic with every piece of information coming from the Ukrainian side. Attempting to discredit it as much as possible. "How can we be so sure??", lending equal weight to weaker theories, always trying to minimize, whilst dressing up their argument as "Putin is bad but".
It's petty in the extreme. Thankfully there are mods coming down on this whataboutery.
We aren't sure, everyone knows the Ukrainians are fighting for their very lives, there will be some exaggerations, we are just taking in as much information as we can from as many sources as we can and building a picture from that.
