There's been some tentative analysis that the Russians don't have supplies to last beyond Sunday, even if their logistics wasnt fucked. They envisaged this to be over in a week tops. That could mean Vlad might go tactically thermonuclear rather than face utter humiliation
The Russian conventional army are no threat to us. The only danger is nuclear warfare and we are far from that scenario.
The left are saying the same about Ukraine.
"If you dissent against the ruling ideology in the USA, Russia or China you'll be treated much the same"
Utter donkey w*nk.
I invite you to perform a really simple experiment: stand in front of the White House, the Kremlin, and in Tiananmen Square - with anti-Biden, Putin and Xi posters respectively and report back.
You'll be bundled in a paddy wagon, probably beaten and investigated and perhaps worse in Moscow and Beijing - you'll end up in a conga line of like-minded people in DC and likely could ask a cop to take a photo of you if you asked nicely. To even attempt to draw that equivalency with the lived reality of millions (billions in the case of China) of those countries is an insult to the intelligence of everyone contributing to this thread.
And you're here on this thread posing and contorting as if you're not coming at it from an angle.
Just like he wouldn’t threaten the west by putting his nuclear deterents on alert
works both ways. Nato just should threaten him back with nuclear deterents on Russias borders. Mind games
So we stand and doff the cap at Tyrants? **** that.
We were already on the wrong side of history once when George Devalero signed the Book of Condolence for Hitler.
True. But I'd also like to call shenanigans against any of these companies who set up alternative brands like the way Coca-Cola set up Fanta to sell to Germans in ww2. If this is a long term embargo on Russia, then we need to be serious about isolating them. Not allowing brands to sell to both sides under different names and profit in the same way as before this situation.
Again. NATO can't start World War 3 because Putin poisoned someone. Calm down.
To be expected- Russia and Serbia are historically very close. Probably the closest to anyone in Europe. Same religion and same Slavic culture- think the Serbs are descended possibly from tribes that migrated west from parts of present day Russia. Part of the tension with Turkey goes back to how they felt they were tested under the ottomans.
While a majority in Serbia favour EU membership there is a large minority that looks east. Kosovo was another Serb NATO flashpoint- Russia obviously backs Serbia in that.
It's their own choice of course but I personally don't think more NATO on Russia's borders is a good idea for stability. It will be the opposite.
So your saying NATO would renege on article 5?
Shame he never asked him about the huge stockpiles of US UK Turk & now EU lethal weapons that are now in the hands of the official army, that's acceptable maybe, but what about the irregulars & far right state approved lunatic militia.
Like this far right white race lunatic who brags killing is a laugh and how many javelin missiles they have access to, & their intentions for Ukraine.
Not just Putin we now need to be all concerned of re nuclear fallout, criminals let out of jail in Ukraine, & extreme far right nationalists a fringe movement a perverse one but now a dangerously armed one around nuclear power stations.
Why are you saying NATO are useless though?
I'm sure that imagined fantasy is comforting to the very real case of Edward Snowden whose only "crime" was to reveal the truth of US regime policies to his fellow Americans.
They were a pretty good shot if so
I wouldn't be rushing them into the EU either.
Warning on this one, very disturbing stuff
i can imagine if Putin loses face in this war and needs to retreat at some point they will bobbie trap the nuclear power plants in order to destroy Ukraine and the EU, the Russians care little for their own people so can deal with that collateral damage, the Russians are behaving like a terrorist organization
Not really - no casualties in a small confined space like a vehicle? I would have presumed even a small military unit would have enough weaponry to wipe out a civilian car and anyone in it.
Be realistic - what is more likely? Russian "hit squads" dropped behind Ukrainian lines? Or panicked, ill-disciplined civilians with guns shooting at cars they don't recognise in an environment where they are terrified of Russian "saboteurs"?
We can argue about it here but I don't know. And you don't know. The reporters being shot at themselves don't know.
Snowden went to a country that lacked an extradition treaty with the USA, number one, not because Russia is relatively liberal outside of criticism of Putin. He could have criticised the USA from Mexico, but feds would have picked him up there.
Dissent is defined as disagreement with predominantly held values. It is possible to go and stand in a public square in the West and protest some injustice you feel your government is doing. Not so much in Russia, or China.
Exactly, hitting a car spot on, repeatedly, from at least a hundred meters (first shot looked like a couple of hundred metres from the tree line)
Very sad.🙁
For those still wondering if China are going to come join along just accept without question the selective one sided narrative, in the hope of further isolation of Russia?
Yes, you got what you wished for, as they too are following a selective one sided narrative,
just a different one.
If Russia needs to find some support amid the piling Western condemnation for its invasion of Ukraine, all it takes is a browse of the Chinese internet.
In China’s tightly controlled online space, pro-Moscow sentiment dominates. Celebrities have been chastised for voicing sympathy for Ukraine. Hawkish Russian remarks are cheered. And some Chinese users have described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a hero standing up to the West.
The enthusiasm has extended to e-commerce. Some Chinese have flocked to a Russian-owned online store that was said to be endorsed by the Russian Embassy in China, clearing shelves for most of its products from chocolates, to wafers and vodka.
“Every chocolate is a bullet fired at the nazis, ypa!” wrote one buyer in the store’s review section, in an apparent reference to Putin’s claim that he wanted to “denazify” the country in justifying the invasion.
The outlet, known as the Russian National Pavilion, saw its online following soar three fold within a day, and received a total of 50,000 orders placed since Feb. 28, according to Chinese media reports. By Wednesday, a video has popped up from Sergey Batsev, an ambassador to China for the Russian nonprofit Business Russia, thanking “Chinese friends” for supporting his country in such “difficult times.”
“During this complicated and ever-changing international situation, we have seen our old Chinese friends’ camaraderie,” he said. “ˇThere’s an old Chinese saying that a goose feather sent from far away conveys profound affections. We will cherish this deep friendship in our hearts.”
True. My old man wins the vintage shooting competition each year with a Lee Enfield. A masterful rifle. Rock solid. He's ex Irish Army and swears by it. He's also 72!
Returning to get the family dogs. If this is what "denazification" looks like even if Russia don't run out of invasion money by next week they have angered the local population so much resistance will persist until they are gone.
For a bit of light relief: Rocky iii is on ITV tonight. And Rocky iv (the one with Ivan Drago) is on ITV next Friday night at 9....
Did you miss the part where the cameraman took 2 bullets to his vest and one got wounded - they weren't aiming to miss
Here's one for the conspiracy theorists
Russian saboteurs and infiltrators are a significant problem at the moment. Ukrainian military and reservists are familiar with this issue from 2014 and in LNR/DNR as well as in the current conflict and are unlikely to shoot at press people with their hands up stepping out of a civilian car. The Sky News crew were specifically warned about it.
Well, Finland hasn't invaded Russia since 1941 - the situation was pretty stable until Russia decided to invade Ukraine. Russia has also indicated that it's not their choice, which doesn't sit well with anyone.
