What Putin is doing, here, is objectively worse. Not only are his forces doing what they're doing in Ukraine, but he's actively making threats against other countries who might try to step in. He's not even conceding that the Russians are conducting a tad more than a special military operation when the whole world can see that this is patent bullsh*t. He's not even remorseful or attempting to seem remorseful about the devastation being caused. Some of this might play well in Russia where being 'stronk' is myopically prized, but it's a P.R. disaster in the entire Western world. Contrary to what Putin might think, he does need some kind of normal relations with such countries, going forward, but by god is he ever f**king that.

Also a road with high walls/ditches in South Armagh is nothing like a road in much of Eastern Europe. They can get off the road onto flat land rather quickly.

To a certain extent, yes, though Putin does have form in the past for indiscriminate shelling of cities and killing civilians. He seems relaxed about the issue and not even bothered by the optics or how it is perceived globally.
Sorry if this counts as off topic but one thing I've noticed on this thread since it started is how much I've ended up respecting posters I can't stand on many other threads. This horrific war has shown up which accounts on here actually have decent people behind them for me.

Understand what you're saying, but I think it's wrong. 'Our' wars in recent years have mainly been against Islamic militant groups who don't subscribe to any war 'rules'. Ukraine has an organised army with a command structure. They've been evacuating their civilians and hiding them in underground bunkers. When you look at Gaza for example, it's the Hamas guys in bunkers and civilians up top.

The fact is there are back channels used all the time between the west and Moscow and vice versa. Putin, by his own admission, is threatening to unleash nuclear war. One would imagine there are many in russian military circles who recognise the insanity in that. Sanctuary in the west would not be a problem, so "what's keeping ye guys" would be the message I guess.
And say NATO do the above, send military in and try to 'destroy' Russia, how do you stop them launching their 6000 nuclear warheads when they feel backed into a corner?

A number of times its been mentioned that anti-war elements of the FSB have leaked info about Chechen assassination squads sent to kill Zelenskyy that have resulted in their termination so highly possible this is indeed happening. That of course could be a story leaked to ferment distrust and a reaction within the Russian regime as well.
