Just passed diesel priced at 1.86...holy f**
Roll on a few months from now the way things are going and we could be saying just passed diesel priced at 2.86...holy f****
They validate whether it is a legal command. They have zero legal say on whether its a good idea or not.
Again, I highly doubt that an irresponsible order would get through - but the system is fundamentally no different from the Russian one. Putin is no more connected directly to the Launch button in a silo then the US President is. There have been numerous discussions in US precisely about this and advocating restricting the authority of the president. It is certainly not a system I would be advocating as an ideal to aim for.

A president who decides to take the nuclear option would communicate the intention through a device known as the "nuclear football" -- a suitcase carried by a military aide who is always near the leader. The president can choose the target from a book filled with prepared war plans. If the intended target is not in the book, the U.S. Strategic Command, or STRATCOM, will quickly prepare an alternative plan.
When a decision is made, the president identifies himself or herself to military officials at the Pentagon using codes noted on an ID card known as the "biscuit." The order is given, and the weapons are fired.
"Nobody can veto a president's order to release nuclear weapons unless it's illegal," said Vipin Narang, a professor of nuclear security and political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Holy shitballs in an understatement .
He's needs to be put down
Actually, I would go further and suggest Putin annexed Belarus the other week and nobody's mentioning it. He gave their fat oaf of a 'leader' a lowly colonel cosplay uniform as payment.
His aim seems to be to drive NATO and the west back. It's not just about Ukraine.
He'll use all the crazy rhetoric he has to with his own people. I wouldn't read too much in to that tbh.
The question what is the west going to do when it's Moldova or the Baltics? We aren't there yet thankfully but that would spark a real crisis.
Sounds like bullshit to me, but will post anyway
Come to think of it, why should Poland put up with the CTSO on its border? Or indeed Ukraine?
If we're willy waving about security treaty organisations, surely the CTSO is as troublesome for neighboring states as NATO is for Russia?
Or is it that NATO is a thorn in the side of Russia's malignant revanchist ambitions? One has to wonder.

Yes, but wouldn't justify ballistic missiles on Sweden for example or nuclear. He'd strike back in Belarus.
CTSO - Pound shop NATO of which Belarus is a member. It's as good as attacking Russia.
Combined with Macron saying he's believing his own lies it is concerning.
Just saw Putin make a speech there on sky news.
He mentioned a minute's silence for one of his army generals who was killed. I reckon he gave him 10 seconds at most. Couldn't care less about him more like.

It's that Irish themed bar they opened in Moscow. Guinness has pickled their brains.
There's a series of checks and balances in place called Command and Control. These are there to make sure that any authorisation of a nuclear strike has to go through a number validations before that command is acted upon, for reasons that should be obvious to all but the most simple minded.
Peter Feaver wrote a number of interesting articles on the matter a few years ago and one thing that stuck in my mind about this topic was that he mentioned that there are two situations involved here. 1 is where the "President wakes up the military". This basically means that the President has authorised a nuclear strike. This sets off a series discussions amongst a lot of people before anything can be acted upon. The second is where the "military wakes up the President", which is an entirely different prospect and one that likely means that an incoming strike has been detected and a retaliatory strike has to be initiated.
In the case of option 1 which is a first strike, the President cannot simply order such a thing and expect it to be carried out immediately. In the case of option 2, the enemies missiles are probably already inbound, so the necessity for justifying the authorisation is more than likely null and void.
It's worrying.
The point I made earlier. Putin is relying on geographical ignorance by his supporters. By invading Ukraine, Russia ends up bordering MORE NATO members.
Well yes but the IOC in their statement on Wednesday said that the two Paralympic teams wouldn’t be under their own flag and anywhere the flag would be visible it was to the covered.
Holy shitballs the sheer horseshit coming out of putins mouth (assuming the translation is correct)
There was an author on BBC Newsnight yesterday who said Putin's actions are way out of character. Germaphobia, isolation and taking of steroids may have psychologically damaged him.
Hard to believe what he is saying here - he is a disgusting excuse for a human being.
A bounty has been put on Putin’s head.
Apparently..,
I am surprised no one has raised this yet, or perhaps they have and I missed it, but Putin has just made the best case for nuclear proliferation possible. It's now a complete no-brainer.
As an Australian, I would like to urge Australia to immediately start a nuclear weapons program. Sweden should too if the have any sense. Germany and Taiwan should probably keep it secret until they have finished.
I think there should be some scope to say that if Belarus joins the war officially, then we can strike Belarus. This wouldn't technically be hitting Russia, but a client state. My complete guess as an amateur who really knows very little, is that it would not escalate to nuclear. Russia would try to hit back within the Belarussian theatre. We'd then have some more leverage in any negotiations.
I assume its because there is no flag on display or national anthem being played
Well he’s on the senate intelligence committee so yes he does have a contact, it’s the US intelligence community. That and it’s counter part in the House of Representatives get intelligence briefings on this stuff.
Bealrus is a puppet state that they were doing "exercise" in. Of course they would officially be part of this.
I would assume they have high up assets in the Russian government, they need to organise some sort of hit/accident..... maybe give one of those cups of tea full of nuclear waste that he is so fond of
Looks like gas supplies are being turned off from the Yamal pipeline today. Oil price is going to go through the roof now.
I dont wish it.
Things maybe going that way anyway, the word can't stand idly by indefinitely.
Lists Ard hotel.
Really lovely hotel these days
Listening to putin on sky news , saying that they are the ones helping civilians find a safe route out of Ukraine, to save them from being used as human shields by the "Nazis "
I have no words , he is beyond evil.
