You can absolutely acknowledge that while she wasn't under the age of consent, it's still very weird for a 27 year old person (man or woman) to have a physical relationship with a minor.
Just on this, I've seen a few people say that they hope she gets her comeuppance.

He's only highlighting what was claimed now. Nobody would have remembered.
All I know anyway is from his statement that some girl appears to have been saying they had a "brief relationship" and she is now acknowledging she was actually over the age of consent at the time. Which leads me to believe that it was somewhat plausible that she wasn't that far above it at the time. Although over is legal.
Still, if there was a 27 year old fella trying to ride a 17 year old girl, I wouldn't think great of the person. Hypothetically of course. Especially if that 27 year old was somewhat well known.
Innocent of everything until proven guilty. Was there even a report made to gardai, a garda investigation, file sent to the DPP, charges brought?
It’s not that he’s “allowed” her to remain anonymous, it’s that he appears to have had no wish to see her publicly named and shamed in the first place to satisfy the kind of idiot who would wish to see her “get her comeuppance” and without giving a single fcuk about McDermott or the law or anything else, would seek to make her life a living hell, just because they could.
When he was on the radio, he'd have probably been the first person to start shaming someone and saying believe her if this happened, so not much sympathy really.
I think his main issue now is that he was screaming from the airwaves about this kind of thing. He hitched himself to the woke wagon and railed against the behaviour he is accused of which he hasnt denied. Its also possible that the girl didnt realise what the age of consent was. If she is u18 but over 16 then thats understandable. Not right but you can see why it was an issue.

He hasnt denied having relations with her though or that important elements of her account of events werent true.
I mean if i were reliant on my image like him i would be categorically denying having relations with a school going girl.
Its not illegal. Far from it. But if you are depending on your squeaky clean imagine to pontificate and virture signal from an ivory tower in RTE you'd better make sure you have no skeletons in your closet. Thats why i have little sympathy if he cant rescue his career. I do have sympathy though that he was accused of sexual relations with a minor. That wasnt right. But in my view he has other questions to clear up here.

She made the allegations in 2021. He obviously knew her well enough to be able to track her down. I think the statement and letter today clear up any legal issues though.
Yeh i fully agree. I wouldnt be talking about an assault etc. To me the guy done nothing illegal and i think thats been cleared up. However i do think we should be allowed to have an opinion on it though considering it is now in the public sphere. As i said i dont wish the fella ill will but i dont think he can make acome back now. This is the kinda thing he was so against.

Looks like from statement today he isnt. To be fair to the guy he said out of respect for her he isnt naming her and wants to put it to bed. That must be a diffcult thing to do.

Not sure. But i dont think a platform can wash their hands of any responsibilty especially if it is used to publish stuff like this.

It would really depend on the circumstances.
A 17(who could still be at school)going out with a 27 who could be a teacher/presenter/role model/etc. You would question the elders moral and are they suitable to be on the national airwaves or teaching a class.
Yeh look im not sure thats the issue. The point ive made is he hitched his wagon to the woke, cancel culture climate we live in today. He actively called out this behaviour and told us as men during the me too movement that we had to do better etc.
The guy didnt have sex with someone underage. And im delighted thats the case and this woman has admitted it and withdrawn those claims.
But knowing narrative he created for himself as a presenter its difficult to accept he could make a comeback.
