Putin's aims are to destroy Ukraine completely. He has never believed it should exist and he wants the former soviet buffer with western Europe reconstituted. Ukraine is big part of that. He has never hidden his contempt for it's independence. For him it's an emotional issue.
I find it difficult to believe any of Ukraine will exist as an independent country in 2 weeks time.
Unless he has reason to drop his aims. Why would he do that now when his military can mop up?
He knows the west will move on quite quickly when this is over.
Increasingly horrible footage coming out, Russians really bombing the **** out of the country, especially the south. Animals.
Roman's mother is Ukrainian. Zelenksy and Roman are both Jews. So there's ties there. Roman used to have Putin's ear in the early years, but Putin then went nutjob authoritarian and none of the oligarchs who helped him into power have had much sway since.
Massive philanthropist, does more against racism than most clubs, opened his Chelsea hotel up to NHS staff during the worst of pandemic.
Defo small syndrome going on. The state of him
It was interesting that apparently it was the Ukrainians that asked for Abramovich to get involved with the negotiations in Belerus. There is something going on with him (that isn't running to save his assets). His private jet is currently in the Turkish capital.
Boris Johnson was asked about Abramovich today in PMQs and was very jumpy, he didn't want to talk about individual cases.
Saying all of that. As the statement said, he wants the money to go to all victims of the war. The would probably going towards the new Russian backed government in Kyiv.
Excellent recap.
The Ukrainians have said the Russians have refused their offers to repatriate the dead who were left on the battlefield. If that is even remotely true it just shows that old habits die hard.
Oh it's a good move in some respects and compelling. Having them phone their mothers is getting a bit close to public humiliation though, which is specifically not allowed.
Call me a cynic but hard to believe a Russian oligarch has suddenly developed a conscience..
IN Ukraine, was very specific too. Not making this an 'equal' war between two sides but deliberately pointing out it's Ukraine suffering the war. It's a pity he's been forced to do this, he's not the guy painted in the media and he certainly doesn't approve of Putin's methods. He just can't speak out too much unless he wants his family dead.
Abiding by the conventions should be everybody's concern. We can't just throw the Geneva conventions away because we feel an affinity with the people breaking them. For their own sakes, they should be careful. (I did recognize that Russia appears to have committed worse crimes.)
Good explanation of how the west is Targeting Russian economy
The russian plan was never to take all of Ukraine, they only need to cut it off from the Black sea, ensure water supplies to Crimea and take over the Ukrainian oil & gas deposits. They have achieved 1 out of 3 (Crimea water), once they complete the connection to Transnistria, they'll proceed to expand their gains in the East of the country
The new borders will more or less, follow the outline of mineral deposits below as well as additional gains. They have no need of the rest of Ukraine
How can they do that when Swift has been cancelled ?
Hegarty=Hammond would be very interested.........☺️
I think you're reading too much into it. He hasn't even said the Russia-Ukraine war....he says war IN Ukraine.
He has probably found some victim who has Roman Abramovitch as an heir
Interesting that he called it a war
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has said all "net proceeds" from his sale of the club will go to a foundation benefiting "all victims of the war in Ukraine".
"ALL victims" - not Ukranian victims. Is he including Russian "victims"?
That's probably why he's selling. Priti must have given him a warning. Be interesting to see which Middle Eastern despot dynasty will buy them. Maybe a South American "Import Export" Kingpin will step up.
Decent statement
Thermobaric bombs are not specifically prohibited by the Geneva convention. UK and USA have both used them in Afghanistan and likely wouldn't be too keen to have them outright banned.
Using them against certain targets could be, but that's the case with a great many weapons. We don't know if Russia has used them or against what targets. Most of the information and videos coming out of Ukraine is unreliable.
Interesting to see where the 3 billion or so he gets goes. Does it go offshore or does it go back to the motherland.
This would be remarkable.
Should have it taken before he gets a chance to walk off with the cash
I agree with you 100%.
I would imagine the back channels between the west and Moscow are discussing just one topic now and that is that Putin needs to be removed one way or another.
One man.....and the entire regime behind him.
It takes more than one man to create this much chaos.
i bid 400 rubles for Chelski, final offer
