I think the idea of allowing them to phone home is a clever one. The Ukrainians should let them phone their friends and extended family too.
"Hey Vanya, guess where I am..."
Russia is saying it’s 498 killed and 1,597 wounded which is a big gap between the two numbers. I think it’s likely the true number is somewhere in the middle which isn’t a small number.
I think the most disappointing reaction from a country that isn't an authoritarian sh*thole, is India. I mean I know they have a lot of trade with Russia, but India has good relations with the west and has been helped a lot by the west in terms of aid while they build nukes and space programmes.
Yet they haven't really condemned and today they abstained in the vote. Modi was trumpeted at first, but he's turning into a real disappointment.
Not one man. NATO is guilty as well. This war has been brewing for decades
"Today we need to admit that there is a crisis in European (and global) politics. One of the reasons, albeit not the only reason, is a lack of desire on the part of our Western partners to take Russia’s point of view and legal interests in security into consideration. They paid lip service to applauding Russia, especially during the Yeltsin years, but in deeds they didn’t consider it. I am referring primarily to NATO expansion, missile defense plans, the West’s actions in regions of importance to Russia (Yugoslavia, Iraq, Georgia, Ukraine). They literally said “This is none of your business.” As a result, an abscess formed and it burst.
I would advise Western leaders to thoroughly analyze all of this, instead of accusing Russia of everything. They should remember the Europe we managed to create at the beginning of the 1990s and what it has unfortunately turned into in recent years."
Mikhail Gorbachev: I am against all walls - Russia Beyond (rbth.com)
I'd multiply the Russian number by 10 and divide the Ukrainian one by 2.
So we're talking about between 3500-5000 Russian Dead. A horrendous number of young men snuffed out just because the NovoFuhrer wanted to look tough.
You can't see Ukraine agreeing to that apart from maybe the enclaves that self-declared independence. The Russians even with the cities in the east they are trying to capture would struggle.
Given how dishonest they are and the fact that they are doing Putin's bidding, we would have to assume that way more than 498 Russian troops have been killed.
Roman confirming he’s to sell Chelsea. Must be bricking it about what sanctions to come.
i bid 400 rubles for Chelski, final offer
One man.....and the entire regime behind him.
It takes more than one man to create this much chaos.
I agree with you 100%.
I would imagine the back channels between the west and Moscow are discussing just one topic now and that is that Putin needs to be removed one way or another.
Should have it taken before he gets a chance to walk off with the cash
This would be remarkable.
Interesting to see where the 3 billion or so he gets goes. Does it go offshore or does it go back to the motherland.
Thermobaric bombs are not specifically prohibited by the Geneva convention. UK and USA have both used them in Afghanistan and likely wouldn't be too keen to have them outright banned.
Using them against certain targets could be, but that's the case with a great many weapons. We don't know if Russia has used them or against what targets. Most of the information and videos coming out of Ukraine is unreliable.
Decent statement
That's probably why he's selling. Priti must have given him a warning. Be interesting to see which Middle Eastern despot dynasty will buy them. Maybe a South American "Import Export" Kingpin will step up.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has said all "net proceeds" from his sale of the club will go to a foundation benefiting "all victims of the war in Ukraine".
"ALL victims" - not Ukranian victims. Is he including Russian "victims"?
Interesting that he called it a war
He has probably found some victim who has Roman Abramovitch as an heir
I think you're reading too much into it. He hasn't even said the Russia-Ukraine war....he says war IN Ukraine.
Hegarty=Hammond would be very interested.........☺️
How can they do that when Swift has been cancelled ?
The russian plan was never to take all of Ukraine, they only need to cut it off from the Black sea, ensure water supplies to Crimea and take over the Ukrainian oil & gas deposits. They have achieved 1 out of 3 (Crimea water), once they complete the connection to Transnistria, they'll proceed to expand their gains in the East of the country
The new borders will more or less, follow the outline of mineral deposits below as well as additional gains. They have no need of the rest of Ukraine
Good explanation of how the west is Targeting Russian economy
Abiding by the conventions should be everybody's concern. We can't just throw the Geneva conventions away because we feel an affinity with the people breaking them. For their own sakes, they should be careful. (I did recognize that Russia appears to have committed worse crimes.)
IN Ukraine, was very specific too. Not making this an 'equal' war between two sides but deliberately pointing out it's Ukraine suffering the war. It's a pity he's been forced to do this, he's not the guy painted in the media and he certainly doesn't approve of Putin's methods. He just can't speak out too much unless he wants his family dead.
Call me a cynic but hard to believe a Russian oligarch has suddenly developed a conscience..
Oh it's a good move in some respects and compelling. Having them phone their mothers is getting a bit close to public humiliation though, which is specifically not allowed.
