I'm sure cruise missile strikes on Babin Yar have really endeared Russia to Israel.
That site is sacred ground for the international Jewish community.
Ukrainians claim to have hundreds of Russian soldiers as POWs, again pinch of salt, but indeed I've seen multiple videos in past days with groups of Russian soldiers surrendering
Very good leverage to have during an invasion
So the conspiracy that he's mentally or physically sick might be true? Unless it's the 7o on him personal clock is causing the change...
A Russian negotiator said a ceasefire is on the agenda in talks between Ukraine and Russia, AFP reports.
Russia expects Ukrainian officials to arrive in Belarus for the next round of peace talks on Thursday morning, Russian news agencies cited Moscow’s negotiator Vladimir Medinsky as saying.
Seeing is believing on a ceasefire.
Not sure if this has been discussed but I read some interesting comments from Lavrov on the BBC about half an hour ago saying that Russia respects the Ukrainian people's right to determine their future and also that Moscow recognises Zelensky as the President of Ukraine.
Now I know if we have learnt anything over the last month what Russia says and what Russia does aren't always compatible...but on paper at least that sounds very significant to me. A far cry from "denazifying Ukraine" anyway.
I wonder if China is putting the squeeze on in the background as well.
They can't do or say anything. The US is putting pressure on Israel to denounce Russia more forcefully, but the idea of Russia then selling Iran top fighter jets etc and just opening the door to them in Syria is too big a threat for Israel - so they sit this one out. Putin has done a number on quite a few countries in this way.
not surprised at some of the countries voting against. Look at some of those democratic countries that abstained.
Bangladesh & India. Remember that when they are looking for aid for flooding
Pakistan - Remember that when they are looking for aid after an earthquake.
South Africa - Defund all NGOs working with South Africa.
Bolivia - The yanks had been pumping money in there until they elected the coke dealer.
Madagascar - Got a ton of EU money for climate change causes. Humanitarian issues.
You can go through them all. They nearly all would have received EU/US money over the last few years. If their people voted for them, Defund them.
Most of the Chinese weapons are rebranded Russian weapons with some exceptions like their original stealth fighter Which is anything but stealth .,their ships are clones of various US and European designs ,they have hypersonic weapons how's many and how capable are they nobody really knows, the Americans did say they were worried about the last hypersonic missile ,but in fairness American have been flying hypersonic aircraft for decades.
They'll also be eyeing up the resource rich country they share a 4500km border with and the recently exposed pathetic & weak Russian armed forces.
If I were Putin I'd be far more wary of my eastern border with the Chinese (a country that is resource hungry) with a growing, disciplined and modern military than getting caught up with NATO and the Western countries.
There's a significant Jewish population in both Kyiv and Dnipro. If that community gets harmed or screwed around with in any way (not unthinkable with Wagner floating around) the wind will change.
They need to be very careful about this, IMO. I understand the value, but even if you are not mistreating them, showing POWs* on video can be very controversial and they are treading a very fine line re: Article 13 of the Geneva Convention. According to reports, Russia is committing more serious war crimes, attacking civilians and civilian property. Nevertheless, the Ukranians need to be careful.
*I'm assuming that they are actual POWs and not actors playing a part for propaganda purposes.
Time to call in the clampers. 😃
There’s a ton of bad blood between them both going back a very long time. Such as the Sino Soviet split and numerous border squabbles. Also China courts lots of countries that were either ex soviet or Russian friendly.
it’s more a marriage of convenience- keep your enemies close type relationship.
If the majority want to, probably, yes. Through a referendum and an organised precess, not military force.
Reading a little in the Israeli press i get the sense they are very much for Ukraine and President Zelenskyy being of the Jewish faith gives them a personal investment in this. I wouldn’t like Israel as an enemy tbh, particular given the American dimension that brings.
There was a jew killed a couple of days ago while trying to flee the country. By a Ukrainian soldier, and accident by most accounts.
It's Cold War 2. If they want to dance with Russia, they can't deal with us. And they can suck it up when they are looking for Aid. Russia can help them.
Pakistani's voted for Imran Khan, they can deal with the consequences when there is an earthquake, of which they are regular. Send them a link to the Kremlin website.
That Russian death toll according to Ukraine is now up to 7,000, with hundreds of prisoners. You could probably believe the numbers of prisoners!
I'm wondering (maybe wishful thinking) if we are beginning to see some glimmers here in terms of the Russian position.
Lavrov's comments about Zelensky seem really important to me.
Another civilian ship a Bangladesh tanker was hit by Russian missles as it entered Ukrainian waters earlier
I must say I was a bit annoyed to read that Israel were apealing to Ukraine to do everything possible to help jews to get out.
I think they might have bigger priorities on their plate. Also to read that someone thought there was a good side to this as it could lead to an increase in jewish immigrating from Ukraine.
Personally I find that a bit whiffy.
"Israel hoping war in Ukraine will see wave of Ukrainian Jews emigrating to Israel" https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/middle-east/israel-hoping-war-in-ukraine-will-see-wave-of-ukrainian-jews-emigrating-to-israel-1.4814544
I think it's a pity that they're in such a bind over Russia next door in Syria. Were it not for that, Israel could send some game changing systems to Ukraine. Being a non-NATO country, it wouldn't risk a NATO conflict. But the Russians are clever. They plan ahead. Two birds with one stone in the M.E - control Syria and have a permanent base next to Israel as a control mechanism.
CNN update on a possible Russian default.
Russia’s stock market remains shut down. The rouble is worth less than a penny. And Western businesses are fleeing. JPMorgan warns a Russian default could be next. Russia has more than $700 million in payments coming due in March, mostly with a 30-day grace period, according to JPMorgan.
“Sanctions imposed on Russia have significantly increased the likelihood of a Russia government hard currency bond default,” JPMorgan emerging markets strategists wrote in a note to clients on Wednesday.
I heard that case but thought he was heading into the country. Mistook for a chechyan

This and the news from US intel that Russia is not building up extra troops, suggests they may have changed their end goal of taking the whole of Ukraine. They might end up with a significant chunk, annex it and Zelensky gets to stay in power and preside over 'western Ukraine'. Still a dreadful ending, but better than the original plan of taking it all.
Russia has used thermobarric bombs, which is in breach of the geneva convention. I think abiding by the conventions should be the least of Ukraine's worries.
The problem with the U.N. is that it seems to be largely a talking shop. That's all well and good in peacetime to have a forum for national representatives to voice certain concerns, but in wartime the U.N. becomes a place where all the other nations basically agree that war is very bad, which is a truism of the highest order and tut at the aggressors.
One man is causing all this devastation in Europe in 2022. Makes my blood boil that one little **** can cause all this.
