Gulp!....should I have filled her with diesel?
I don't think I made a reference to any approach to achieve that, but to the consequences of a potential attack against the comms infrastructure, as a strategy...unless you meant to respond to a different poster.
This is of course utterly abominable on the part of the authorities, but for the love of the giraffe god! what were the parents of these children thinking? That they'd get a free pass on 'protesting' because their children are the ones holding the placards?
In the above it questions how the EU encouraged a westernised Ukraine and opened the door for future NATO membership.
Interestingly in the talk by John Mearsheimer (referred to above) he mentions that Putin would never be stupid enough to all out invade the Ukraine. But a lot of the other points definitely deserve attention.
Also there is the problem with the strongest EU country in NATO - Germany. They are reluctant be seen to go against Russia. Because of a combination of historical issues. German politics and Germany's dependance on Russian gas.
This has the potential to fracture NATO and defeat the purpose of it.

Using the Belarus army to take a few hits instead of his elite soldiers them and the younger troops of his own who he is quite happy to take the brunt .
Good of course. Better for the US that Europe's energy is supplied by a US ally, rather than Russia. Nothing in that analysis is wrong; it's in the long-term interest of the US to break as many Europe/Russia links as possible. After all:
Who rules East Europe commands the Heartland; who rules the Heartland commands the World-Island; who rules the World-Island commands the world.
This guy seems to be reporting from Kyiv

The Ukrainian estimated toll for Russian military dead is now close to 6,000, but obviously no real way to confirm that.
If you allow your opponent to continuously bluff you, you will loose all your chips. You have to meet aggression with aggression. That’s poker theory anyway.
I don't want to read too much into it but at the end of Bidens address to the nation he went off script and said " go get him" meaning putin. Hopefully somebody will.
Good if Ukraine is a USA ally. Which the legitimate Ukrainian government clearly are
The mighty Russians, so mighty they have to go cap in hand to the excrement in Belarus to give their military support a dig out. It's like having a Bentley in the driveway but having to go to your neighbour to get a lift in their clapped out 1990 fiesta because the Bentley is broken down.
If US sanctions and intelligence sharing does help Ukraine fight off the Russian invasion, the Ukraine will be able to continue their oil and gas exploration and potentially become the main the supplier to Europe. Is that good or bad in the long term for the US ?
I've heard it said by wildlife and war photographers that looking through a lens can make a photographer forget that he's there with what's being photographed. Ironic that what can bring you up close to a subject can detach you from it at the same time.
Good to see this Putin loving scumbag get what was coming to him. Another champagne Putin crony living it up in the west too. Need a major purge of these lot back to Moscow with full investigation of their wealth. No pussy footing around.
Geez. I do think you'd have to either be a madman or a fool to be a cameraman or journalist in things like that.
Now I am no expert, but if a tank shoots a shell in your direction, as you have your nice shiny camera lens on show.... you don't stick around in a room while the next tank shot may be leveling that room. But here he just hangs around.
Ah. The disputed 2014 election makes it an easy argument to make. We assume the other guy was Russian backed, they assume the other guy was western backed.
I'd be surprised if both aren't true to an extent. It wouldn't be unlike the US and Russia to get involved in other countries elections l
The Russians can’t take the entire country. When the territorial lines are redrawn in the coming weeks the west should supply Ukrainian forces with far more serious firepower and start the process of reclaiming their land. The Russians won’t have the stomach for this long term.
One of Putin's mates....good riddance
What would they leave behind though? They simply cant hack like that and there are also easier ways of bringing down services etc. I think it's silly to think that the Russians were out looking out cables.
Have Sky pulled their crew from Ukraine? One reporter than was in Dnipro is now on the Polish border and usually at this time Mark Austin is live from Kiev but instead they are reporting live from Polish border this morning.
Great site here detailing losses on both sides of vehicles and aircraft, they only list that which has photographic or video evidence
There is no doubt that Russia is losing a significant amount
At this point, I'm starting to wonder if only 75 of the Russian aircraft are operational, or it was someone's first day in the airforce and they filled some jets with petrol.
Yeh this. It's amazing really. I knw two Russians and they are fully supportive of Putin. Trying to justify it by saying it's like the brit occupation of NI.
Listening to a podcast interview with an Indian bloke who's explaining it. He says one reason is India is terrified of China (they've had small skirmishes recently) and India needs to choose between Russia and China and they've chosen Russia.
What the world needs is a JFK
On the contrary. Ukrainians will not surrender, and the Russian armed forces, such as they are in the theatre at the moment, a pretty surmountable.
Last night was to be the kicker, but it has not happened. Just watch what happens the long convoy over the next few days. Remember, the convoy is primarily made up of logistical support, not tanks and artillery.
The only thing that bothers me at the moment is the Russian Airforce. Ukraine still has jets operating in-theatre and, according to UK defence analysts, are daily rocketing and straffing Russian forces, which is incredible as the 1st thing everyone expected Russia to do was to take out the Ukranian aircraft on the 1st day. However, analysts say that Russia are only using about 75 of their thousands of aircraft in the campaign. The question is, why only 75 and where is the rest of the Airforce?
We can't risk a third world war, certainly not a nuclear war, not going to happen.
The Greens have form here. They voted against measure to stop atrocities in the former Yugoslavia too. They seem to like leaving bully nations in peace to do their thing. I swore after that I'd never vote for them again but I did last time round - from desperation and the paucity of alternatives on the menu. This recent development, combined with their determination to inflict pain on people when the energy market has already achieved their carbon taxes for them, means they'll never even make the arse end of my transfers from now on.
Oh, and Eamonn Ryan saying that everyone had to get back into the office. Carbon taxes out of one side of his mouth, demanding that people up their carbon footprint out of the other...
