And here comes victim blaming
If memory serves me right, Japan were the first to impose sanctions on Russia when they invaded/annexed Crimea in 2014.
They've always had fake items in that part of the world, but that's not to say that everyone will wear them...
Ah yes, blame the victim. Classy
I think the Ukraine should just lay down arms and surrender. They are fighting a war they ultimately won't win and in order to stop further blood shed and unnecessary deaths they would be better off just negotiating a truce. Life's are more important than national pride.
Do we really need shite comments like this here?
Maybe they'd rather die than be enslaved?
The Afghans lost at least 1-2 million dead in their war against the Soviets. But they never quit. And they forced the Soviets out.
Cities getting surrounded and bieseged.
The talk of it’s easy to defend but harder to attack earlier in the thread seem hallow unfortunately.
Or, russians should just surrender in a hope that they wont go to stone age
Yeah, I think it's pretty naive to think oh well if Russians look on the internet no matter where they look they're going to believe the West/Ukrainian narrative. Now El Duderino was mentioning different narratives earlier and he was making good points, but when the blood's up that sorta thing tends to fall flat.
But it has utility and many, if not most Russians will have a different narrative around this, which would very basically boil down to; "Ukraine on our border and once friends doesn't want neutrality, have and th invited groups of American military in, wants to join NATO, the EU, has let native Russians living in the East be targetted for attack. We can't trust them or the West. They're liars. They broke the Minsk agreement! It's all propaganda against Russians who they think are backward people. Why are they getting so upset now when the US has killed many many thousands in wars over oil and their imperial expansionism!!!" and so on. Add in a lifetime of propaganda and a fair bit of cognative dissonance and they'll hold that position pretty tightly, especially as they see their money and everything else being squeezed.
Now, I'd be willing to bet there are a few who will read that and be oh so ready to pounce and call whataboutery and Ukrainians are dying!! and kick out Russian people!! They'll be pretty emotive about their position and understandably so. Now what they're feeling now as they're about to type is the kind of intractable emotion and position that their counterpart in Moscow on the interwebs is feeling when they read their 'side' being questioned.
TL;DR? I'm not holding my breath that much of a Russian groundswell will make much of an impact on this. Siege mentality, something Russians are well used to and very good at, will be the more likely response from the population IMHO.
And just for the hard of thinking I am fully behind Ukraine in this and wish Putin would drink one of his own special teas, and soon.
And be under the boot of Russian occupation? Doesn't seem they want that.
But it does raise an interesting question.
Let's say Putin is pushed. Ukraine is resisting to a far greater extent than expected; and protests increase across Russian cities.
Would Putin be crazy enough to launch a tactical nuclear strike on Ukraine a) to deter foreign involvement any further and b) to ensure that Ukraine come to the negotiation tables far sooner and c) to save face?
It's not exactly unthinkable, especially with what appears to be going on in the "heart" of the Kremlin.
They didnt poke the bear. Ukraine has absolutely zero aggressive intent towards Russia. Zero.
Poking the bear ... you mean wanting to live in freedom and prosper free of Russias malign oppression? Which would show up the corruption and failed Russian model? Or submit like Belarus and be Russias serf and vassal?
Because that is what this is about. Whether Ukraine is a vassal state of Russia or a free and independent country like Poland? They have already been under bankrupt Soviet rule once. They have no desire to see it back in a new Russian empire under a dictator.
Russian propaganda really did a number on you.
If you have any kids, you can impart similar advice to them. That if someone else tries to bully them or take their stuff that they should lie down and let them take it and just accept living their life like that forever
Can't beat a bit of old fashioned victim blaming, amirite guys?
Guys?
Some people just don’t get it do they? If these are genuinely held beliefs I actually pity this person. They must be a literal doormat in real life.
Ah that gave me a right chuckle

Proxy wars are an interesting one, because it's kind of like an unwritten rule that large powers have unofficially agreed to follow, yet they must know in a given case who is bankrolling the belligerent they're actually fighting, i.e. the Soviets/China were supporting the North Vietnamese, the Americans were supporting the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan.
Basically, the big nuclear powers have said, without words, that they cannot directly confront one another, but they must leave some way that they can still vie for control of territory.
Provoking?
You're just chatting shite now.
I dunno, I'd be wary of the Japanese. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they unleashed a super weapon if needed. Like a Gundam or Godzilla or something. I know people think I'm taking the piss and maybe they're extreme examples but I wouldn't go **** around with them.
I could see him, possibly, nuking a small to medium sized city in Ukraine if Russian bodies start piling up and they can't capture major cities.
Lads, jimdemp is a troll. It appears frequently in some of the rugby threads. Either add to ignore list or don’t engage.
For all our "confused about the situation" members, there is no war happening according to Russia.
Poland is seizing Russian real estate in Warsaw to be used as accommodation for refugees. 👍️
That keeps getting repeated here. The fact is that Russia attacked Ukraine because Russia wants the land and control. The only poking came from Russia. The bear they poked has bitten back so badly that Russia had to call in help from its friends.
Don’t know if this has been said before:
With all the information available here (outside Russia), I haven’t seen protests of Russian citizens against this war. I haven’t seen protests of Russian celebrities (football players, artists, etc). I know 6 people that identify themselves as Russians but are here with European passports (Russian families established in Latvia and Lithuania) and I haven’t heard them commenting about the ongoing war.
There’s some of these lot I can’t seem to block here as they have private profiles? Is it possible to do?
But he has other heavy weapons that are nearly as effective as nukes if he has stopped caring about civlian casualties and just wants to finish the war. If he genuinely doesn't want to spark WW3 I think the risk of nuking Ukraine outweighs the advantages.
