Not much point linking to a paywalled article, but...I'm looking at footage of lines of Ukrainian civilians blocking the road to Russian vehicles and the vehicles are rolling up to them and just stopping. Klaxons are blaring but not even a pointed weapon or a warning shot. I'd love to see a transcript (and translation) of the radio traffic between those vehicles and their HQ further back. I wonder if it's possible that the average Russian soldiers' moral commitment to the attack is so low that that some are refusing to mow down civilians, or that officers aren't willing to give the orders to do so.
Maybe they're just hanging back anyway while the artillery does its work.
