I'm so fcuking angry with the Russians
It seems it would trigger a defence pact with China and they could have reason to invade Russia.
This…
you negotiate with reasonable people…not with crazies trying to start WW3 and invading their sovereign neighbours…
Even the Chinese wouldn't stand for that and they run concentration camps. There is speculation that if the west get involved militarily, that Putin would nuke the ocean somewhere as a warning.
he makes a good point, did the Russians intervene when the US invaded Panana, no, as its their backyard
Based on the situation in 1998, thanks for the history lesson but that pre-dates Putin's autocratic dictatorship.
UK will take 100,000 Ukrainian refugees but family only.
Jokeski - although with that said, the arrow looks to be coming out of Transnistra rather than into Moldova.
it is all beginning to have a very Berlin in 1945 feel to it. Wave after wave of unstoppable attackers being thrown at unyielding, fanatical defenders in a final climactic showdown. Kyiv will end up in tatters like Berlin.
Didn't really age too well given how far advanced the democracies in question such as Poland, Baltic States and even Hungary are versus Russia.
And it pre-supposes that there would be only be a reaction \ revanchism if NATO expanded. Does anyone really think had places like Latvia, Estonia stayed neutral Russia wouldn't be interfering or worse there?
??
He could but would that not invoke MAD?
I don't see why he would take the risk when he already has serious nonnuclear kit that would achieve a similar effect.
Yeah it's infuriating that they can run roughshod over Ukraine and thumb their noses at everyone 'cos nukes'. And yeah I know it's a more emotional than rational response but part of me wants that column absolutely destroyed by NATO forces just as a **** you to Putin.
No he came on and more or less said we should be greatful his countrymen are not killing more Ukrainians. I for one told him he is not welcome in my country. I know one of his compatriots was mouthing pro putin stuff in a meat plant in Nenagh yesterday but got a nice few slaps for his trouble!
The EU have every right to urge or suggest that other countries should join… quite democratic and proper.
Russia could counter “ I don’t believe it’s in the best interests of X “ quite democratic too…
problem arises when one country invades another because of their views or intentions of joining a political and economic union…
EU is of no danger to Russia… if people start talking economic terms…. Tough, my local pub Smiths is trying to out do O’Neills up the road… in a democracy they can.
the EU don’t owe Russia fuçk all…. Nothing… Russia are not exactly the bastions of helping anyone…
Depends what you mean by intervening. They armed the Viet Cong just as we're arming the Ukrainians. So in that regard, the Russians have intervened in conflicts where they believe they have an interest. At that time it was preserving communism. Now, with the presence in Syria it's about projecting power and upholding alliances. Removing Panama's dictator didn't bother Russia and they were in the process of collapsing at the time 89-90.
I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The war is happening and it might seem more complex than whatever is presented in media. Portraying Putin as crazy or Russians blood-lusting nazis would not help much into understanding why the things are happening the way they are happening now. I would consider that the open war was started in 2014 with the annexation of Crimea and clashes in Donbass, allegedly (more likely than not) with Russian presence. Both sides of the conflict in Donbass, Ukraine and Russian rebels (allegedly supported by Russia), blamed each other for not adhering to Minsk Agreement since 2015. I can understand why Ukraine might not want to follow the Minsk Agreement (Minsk 2), but I don't know why Russia would not keep its end of the bargain. Whatever is happening now is certainly not good for Ukrainians, Russians, or Europeans. There might be some benefits for the US and China, depending on how this conflict will end.
Did you not welcome me in Ireland because I express my opinion that is not in line with yours?
Jaysus, that was cringe. 'We'll make Putin general' what a lickspittle of a man, and worse proud to be subservient. Some head of state he is. At least any pretence is gone.
But, who was your man laughing at him. Surely, not Belarus media.
A sovereign peaceful nation has been invaded by an unwanted aggressor. There’s is ONLY one side here and this is the Ukrainian one. If you chose to believe otherwise then there is something seriously wrong with you and your moral compass in my opinion. You are entitled to believe that of course.
Main streets of Kyiv getting bombed
I think there is an awful lot of wishful thinking regarding a coup against Putin praying it does happen but he will cause an awful lot of death and destruction before it happens .
Did he? Great to hear
UK MOD posted this this afternoon.
I really love Ireland sometimes;
Family’s relief as boy being treated for leukaemia arrives safely from Ukraine to Ireland after fleeing war zone

We're only 6 days in, this could turn into a long conflict, in which case it will get very, very nasty.
How is this even possible? 🤨
If you are prepared to condemn your fellow Russians who are murdering Ukranian men women and children then I have no problem with you.
