why he is fond of abandoning his own country let alone someone elses
I agree. Peace in Europe should not be achieved with the blood of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians on European hands, which is what is going to happen if there isn't serious deterrent to the Russians soon.
The Ukrainian government is starting to sound desperate and their messages to Europe are already starting to shift from "thank you for all your help" to "please don't abandon us to this."
Nuclear weapons have actually been good for the world, we live in the longest time of western peace. The perfect deterrent for major wars.
Looks like the Crimeans didn't want a part of Putins criminal war and invasion.
Pretty much, yeah. Why do you think countries want to get them? America's attitude to North Korea softened considerably when they set the seismometer off that time.
Sounds like today could be the worst day of this conflict:
1) Airstrikes have been announced by the Russian Ministry of Defence: https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-60542877
2) As was actually well covered by guests on CB Live, Putin has likely set a new deadline for tonight to take Kyiv with his amassed forces (Bellingcat CEO), and as Misha Glenny said, his whole legacy is now hinged on this success given that the earlier spec ops mission failed.
The female MP who spoke from Kyiv on CB made it very clear, that the country was being overun with vermin.... Not sure I would say about that about conscripts but the point was fair from her perspective. Because of the deadline, because of the Russian's limited capacity to soak of this pressure, and because of massive global opposition, Putin has to take Kyiv in two days or withdraw back his troops to Russia, Belarus, and DPR-LPR annexed territory. If this becomes a bloodbath like Aleppo or Mosul, on European soil, with thousands upon thousands of civilian deaths, then escalation is more likely.
I can imagine in the Middle East there is a sense of "now you know what it was like" as we see Europeans being slaughtered instead (by other Europeans). Hopefully, the attack will have limited success, and the shelters will do their job and protect the remaining populace.
It doesn't. He and his country are being squeezed in every conceivable way but that will take a lot longer than this attempted annexation. It's not in anyone's interest to spread this thing to the rest of Europe. This is new to Putin, a country willing and determined to fight back and with some extremely powerful friends. He is quite probably finished because of this.
Yes that's all very obvious but there comes a point where you still have to stand up to these people. Bombing that convoy is just as likely to make the russians reconsider their aims as it is to make them launch nukes.
Can't wait for this sh!t show
Same with Abramovic. People expect Russian elites to just come out and denounce the murderous thug. Who will protect their families? Russian dissidents aren't even safe on British streets, let alone in Russia.
Make no mistake, Vlad has all us civilised people held to ransom in this regard.
I'm not a Chelsea supporter.
Wibbs I am not being emotional here I am being brutally logical.
If we have learnt anything from history its that you have to face down so called strongmen like Putin. By not dealing properly and decisively with Hitler back in the 30's Europe and the World was condemned to a 6 year world war that killed 10's of millions.
Yes action now may trigger the same as we may have committed "the peace in our time" mistake back in 2014 its time to put it to the test because I have no doubt at all if this continues, Ukraine falls & Putin continues in power we will have the same issue with another country (maybe not a NATO one) in not too long. We have emboldened this evil man by not pushing back against him. That needs to stop now.
Why do you think the likes of Iran, NK, Iraq etc had or have been trying to get them covertly for years?
It just sends out a shocking message to the world: get your hands on nukes, and you can get away with anything.
Translation: "I can't be any more critical of Putin he might have me or my staff killed"
Not to question your authority on the subject but what points has he made that constitute "deluded shite" .. so that i may learn something new
Some details on what they may be sending, Migs by the looks of it, from Poland, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
Zelenskiy on the other hand..
He's invading a country thats not part of Nato, not even part of the EU, no, we shouldnt attack Russia because then it is really a WW3 scenario. Calling his bluff, this is not a game of poker FFS. Calm & clear heads are needed not to escalate tensions further.
Even if they manage to succeed in Ukraine, they wont be able to hold it.
Emotions are 100% understandably running very high at the moment. We have a muppet in Moscow, or an underground bunker where him and his are safe, who has access to the ability to quite literally end this world for humanity. We're close to or on a knife edge here and cooler heads must prevail. Sanction the Russian state and yes her people into eating grass so they know what the world thinks of them and their great Czar Vlad, but don't give the same muppet the excuse to blow the world to hell. The best outcome is the Russian people depose him. Long shot I grant you, but we live in hope. the EU/NATO barging in - and lord knows the provocation is there - will just hand him more support from the very people who may well want him gone.
The parallels between the rise of Hilter as a result of the humiliation of their defeat in WW1 and the rise of Putin as a result of the humiliation of their defeat in the Cold War is eerie, the world can see how this will play out if Putin is not hindered, can the world stop it though!
Sure Dynamo Kiev was basically the USSR soccer team for years.
Lavrov speaks, and everyone walks out
Lols .. you are so right. Don't even listen to him. Opinion of an Irishman 3000 miles away behind a typewriter in Ireland has more gravitas.
Roll on WW 3 when our opinions will matter even less
In the context of Ukraine one can be both, proud of your Russian heritage and proud to be Ukrainian as well. Some would go back generations. I knew one lady whose grandmother was locked up by the KGB in the 50s for unspecified crimes and they were Russian speakers but also four generations Ukrainian. There will be some who hanker after the old Soviet times but they are a pretty small number.
EU or US can't get involved in direct military confrontation, that's a world war
We all know the man to send out there...
This is beyond awful. Basically because Putin has nuclear weapons he can slaughter Ukrainians indisciminately and won't be stopped. Why on earth can't say, Britain or France bomb that convoy? How is it any worse than what the Russians are doing?
