But he took serious risks, and he knew it. With the AIDS situation you had to limit the number of partners you had sex with, as a gay man. Like Bill Whelan did. Sliding down a chute into an orgy is about as risky as it gets.
Personally I have much more sympathy for gay men who were murdered because of their sexuality than Vincent Hanley. They were given no choice.

God, this is emotional. Heartbroken for the Ukrainian people but also can’t help but feel for these two Russian men, who I think are brave to show up too.

1917 wasn't particularly bloody. The February revolution, bloodless. October not much worse. It was the Civil War, 1918-22 was bloody enough. Plus much of the USSR was in a state of famine.
