Will say it again but journalists have a horrible job, Mark Austin just signed off for the night in Kiev and said that it could be a very bad night there. Some balls on people to stay there when you are not from the place.
Pardon the pun, but time and time again people don't understand how bad people get put on the cover:
Person of the Year (called Man of the Year or Woman of the Year until 1999)[1] is an annual issue of the United States news magazine and website Time featuring a person, a group, an idea, or an object that "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year"
They are probably waiting for a NATO aircraft given to Ukraine to bomb it so they can escalate the war and go after Baltic states.
The IRSP are more of a risk to themselves than the general public, they've quite a history of murderous feuds.
Your pro putin which is fine it's your choice. But why are you such a scared pussy that you have blocked your profile? 🤣
This 17 mile long column reminds me of the Republican Guard column during the gulf war which never materialised
Well one part of "over" is Zelinksy dying :(
There will come a point that it will not only be in his interest but in Ukraines interest for him to be snuck out by the Americans (although at this stage that doesnt really sound possible does it)
Nine Howitzers wouldn't have made much of a difference and unfortunately, NATO can't bring in the A-10s that were just built for such a job.
Perhaps like the Finnish Motti?
Sitting ducks. It's like Putin is challenging the west looking to be hit.
I've been reading this thread fairly avidly for the last week and have not seen that as a majority view at all, though if you want to cherry-pick statements, that is another matter. The basic sentiment has been that the Russian military forces dwarf what Ukraine has on hand, but Ukraine has been putting up a surprisingly good fight with the help of supplies from NATO countries and the indefatigable spirit of the Ukrainian people.
And the Russians tacitly acknowledge the good job the Ukrainians are doing of resistance by needing to send a 17 mile long convoy of their military to try and take Kyiv. It's basic Command & Conquer tactics. Did your last group of troops and armour get wiped out trying to take the enemy base? Then send a much f*cking larger group next time.
Slight problem there: The very real risk of all out thermonuclear war. If that genie gets out of the bottle this world is gone. What few humans left on remote south sea islands will see their sea turn cold and the fish die and many will wish they died in the first salvo. After a few million years the world will return as it did with previous mass extinction events, but humanity would be fossils in the soil and all our works vague shapes in the ground, but it would be a mass extinction event. All over a stone age resource folly mindset that exchange stone axes for mass death at the touch of a button.
The Trinity test on July 16 1945 forever changed the future. As Bob Oppenheimer said in the aftermath of that: "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another"
Russian plans haven’t exactly demonstrated competence so far.
Personally I think if unmotivated and potentially inexperienced Russian troops enter the city of Kyiv they’ll get smashed in a ground fight.
It’ll then depend if Russia escalates with air power and the optics and subsequent repercussions of destroying Kyiv.
Have to say, it's fascinating watching posters who have what I'd call kooky political and societal opinions in the normal course of boards activity and cross referencing it with their low-key support for Putin since the war came to town.
Very closely correlated
Where's the proof I'm pro Putin? I absolutely am not.
What do you mean scared pussy I blocked my profile?
Aye, they often have controversial figures from time to time. Sure, Hitler & Stalin won it back in their day, too.
Birds of a feather…no surprise
Ah stop. Have you seen Berlin or Stalingrad before the Red Army or 6th Army got near them?
Berlin was rubble long before the Red Army arrived.
Stalingrad was a major battleground with 2 very large armies - German, Italian, Romanian and Hungarian armies took on the Red Army for months. Stalingrad was also heavily bombed before the battle began. There were very few civilians left in the city when the battle ended.
OMG that is quite an incredible flip of the script. There will be lamentable ballets made by the Ukrainians to honour the fallen Russian boys yet.
You're gone kid,bye.
It's not majority view but there's been lots of similar comments about how Ukraine are holding them off etc, how Russian equipment is terrible. How they still haven't reached Kiev.
I think people must underestimate the size of Ukraine. The radius the Russians were working in from was a radius of 80 miles from Kiev. Looks close on a map of Ukraine but it's actually like being on the far side of Athlone and working towards Dublin city.
I am very surprised how many virologists are also experts in military strategy and war.
And it's only Day 5!
Agreed. One of the channels that helped me get through covid lockdowns. Cigs and matches intact. 'Go' pills in others. Coffee seems to keep well! Absolutely fascinating.. and also grim, of course.
Difficult now that Russia controls all of Ukraine's airspace
Ukrainians sure are a good looking nation ,beit politicians or regular people
That's False
I take it your watching CB Live
I have drifted on and off this without posting. I prefer posting elsewhere. I would like to ask you a few genuine questions, if i may,
What is your actual position on this conflict? some of your posts (the few that i have seen) seem very conciliatory to the position of Russia and Putin.
Is you argument that a Russian Military victory over Kiev (the city alone, for now) is inevitable?
Have you swallowed the Russian justifications for this conflict? (that Ukraine and its Jewish leader, are, in fact, Nazis?)
Irregardless of whether there are far right elements in Ukraine (there may well be, most countries have such elements) do you believe that such elements, represent the Bulk of Ukraine, and its Government/Armed Forces?
Do you Wish for a Russian overall victory?
Do you not support the right of the Ukrainians to defend themselves (as is their right)
Leaving military realities aside for now (imbalances in force, numerical and technical superiority etc) - Morally, are you more sympathetic to the Russian side in this conflict? And if so, why?
Genuine questions - from someone baffled, who genuinely just wants to know your position
This Twitter thread should be worth a read
You definelty sense the Russian air arm and artillery have been very quiet so far.
In the first 4 days, Russian tactical aviation, except for some Su-25s, largely sat on the sidelines. So have most combat helicopters. They have hundreds of both deployed in the area. Russia's air force is missing in action, and largely unused.
Except for heavy shelling around Kharkiv, use of fires have been limited compared to how the Russian mil typically operates. Sadly, I think this will change. Russian mil is an artillery army first, and it has used a fraction of its available fires in this war thus far.
The bulk of the Russian military has yet to enter the fight. Outside Kharkiv, most of the 1st Guards Tank Army, and 20th Army, are just sitting there. They pushed a few BTGs a considerable distance past Sumy, but I think a lot of Russia's forces are still on the sidelines.
