The sly approach was working so well for Russia over the last decade and a half. The mind games and subterfuge were doing a decent job of sowing division in the West and allowing them some space to pick their physical battles with weaker neighbours where and when they chose without too much interference. Why did Putin suddenly run out of patience to where he's mr. Emotional all of a sudden (well, in relative terms, anyway) and go so hard on Ukraine? Why did he wait 8 years between the Donbas rebellions and Crimea takeover to go for a full invasion? He had to have thought that Ukraine was pivoting West even then and would want to have nipped it in the bud.
He's miscalculated so spectacularly it's hard to believe it's even the same person. He's making long speeches about NATO encroachment and these kinds of things, but the fact is that this war he's waging has practically united the whole world against Russia at this time. You know things are bad in terms of the human suffering you're inflicting when even China's not returning your phone calls. So that's Russia isolated on the world stage, facing crippling economic sanctions and prompting several more nearby countries to seriously consider joining NATO. So much for the 'chess master'.
Horrific video of an elderly couple killed in their car by Russian fire doing the rounds on twitter. Can't post, too gory. Horrible scene.
Why dont they use the drones they used a couple days ago to keep them on their toes? Do drones appear on radar?
I was just about to post about how absurdly mundane some aspects of war are(if you grew up with Hollywood movies and video games) I heard that the Ruddians took over a government building along the coast and said that they now controlled the city but that but that they could continue working. The staff left but continued to work remotely. Just a story like this is not one I'd have expected to hear from a battlefield. But then you hear of the human loss and it becomes more barbaric than any Hollywood movie could depict.
Come to think about it Hollywood movies do show Nazi's just operating in occupied cities while people live out their daily lives but I always just thought times of war were more anarchic.
They only have a certain amount of the Bayraktar TB2 available, and likely only a certain amount of ammunition for them. Between keeping an eye on the battlefield at all times and having such limitations, they'll need to make every shot count.
As for appearing on radar, in theory yes, they do. The question is whether their radar cross section is large enough for, say a 9K37 Buk to get a fire-control lock is a different question. The same goes for infrared and whether the exhaust gases from the engine to allow for a lock-on by say an SA-6 MANPADS.
Maybe let them get in good and close.
Take out the front and the rear. Then they're stuck. Might need to remove some AA first. There is zero chance this has gone unnoticed.
Are you getting money for dumping Twitter links?
This makes no sense.
That's my suspicion as well. These unit will have to be brought into some sort of fighting formation if they're to be of any use. That'll be the moment of maximum vulnerability, all bunched together, some units loading up with ammo, some with fuel, some stuck and some confused. My suspicion would be that the Ukrainians are trying to get them to exactly where they want them to be.
Good question. Is a drone considered a weapon over a battlefield? I guess it depends on the type.
You'd assume they'll be getting more of this kit.
EDIT: I think you mean the drone as part of that Turkish missile system they were using...
I think they had about 20 Bayraktars available before the war, and some must have been lost already.
(Russian claim yesterday was 11 enemy drones shot down, but..)
An Ukrainian army twitter account claims they already attacked the convoy, and destroyed 96 tanks and 20 Grad rocket launchers, but there is nothing to verify any of that. Here is the link anyway.

What happens when Kyiv gets encircled and stops food and supplies going in?
This could be over soon.
Putin is threatening Nukes but he knows he can't use them because its the end of the world and mankind if he does and that includes his own people in Russia. His war would have been pointless if he has to use his Nukes as all of Europe would be levelled and vaporised and God help anyone that survives the aftermath.
What are they complaining about? At least the are getting rations......don't let minor detail's like " use by" date bother you, important thing is that your got your rations... and they are edible. Keep your complaining for when they smell and look so bad, you have to hold your nose and close your eyes when trying to eat them, and don't even mention the maggots.....they are a source of protein, Worst ration's are the ones that don't arrive at all.
Yeh its crazy that the convoy hasnt been targeted yet. Surely the Ukranians with the backing of western weapons must be planing to hit that. A former US general, hodges i think his name was, said it was a sitting duck.
where's 007???
When your dying from starvation you will eat anything
Hear hear! For christs sake will some countries just stop this madman and his slaughtering hoardes!
The Russians aren’t stupid.
They obviously have a plan and know trying to hit them won’t succeed.
NATO cannot and should not put troops in Ukraine.
The Russian army will take over Kiev but they wont 'destroy the place'. Why would they destroy the city? What would they accomplish by destroying the city needlessly? People will continue to live there irrespective of who governs it.
I have been wondering too. It is no secret that it is coming, it could simply be too large a column for a limited supply of drones. Ukrainians have 155mm howitzers and it might be that they are waiting for the Russians to come into range. Artillery would do a lot of damage to a column like that but the other side of the equation is as soon they fire their Artillery it will be located.
This could be moment Germany regrets not allowing their heavy artillery to be sent sooner.
Remarkable YouTube post from Bald and Bankrupt of his experience of getting out of Kiev is up now.
Another example of masterful Ukrainian use of communication. Note the complete lack of any triumphalism in the tone of the Ukrainian ambassador to the UN, as he reads the last text conversation between a Russian conscript and his mother. Throughout history, the go-to approach has usually been to demonise and dehumanise the enemy, to big up victories and body counts and threaten the enemy with destruction. Instead, the speaker narrows the view down to once single soldier and his family at home.
But the experts on this thread told us the Russians were 'having their clocks cleaned' and were 'running out of steam' and were 'low on morale' ?
It sounds like though that Kyiv is much more ready for defence than it was on Thursday. Having said that, things will get very nasty if the Russians attempt to take the city, with high casualties on both sides....it could nearly resemble Berlin 1945 or Stalingrad.
Im know military expert but that convoy is poorly organised and positioned. Its a prime target for a few air strikes.
He died! 😥
I’d have to ask But what does “over” even mean now? Russia install a puppet government and things go back to the way Putin wants? How would it ever even function?
This is 1916 on a grand scale.
