I'm not preaching, you're the one pearl clutching and calling the government hypocritical with nothing to back it up.
At least you understand a bit more about what embassies and diplomats functions are for the next time (as no matter how stupid you look, you'll never ever concede or apologise).
Hypocritical?
Going on about Ukraine for the last few days and not a peep about the Saudis or Israelis? Smoozing with both if they get the chance? Want to see the pics?
Coveney would have been ignoring sanctions had he managed to get a trade deal with Putin's Russia.
Hypocritical? Gimme a break. 🙄
By default, due to the actions of others it might have an impact on his Irish based businesses. Not the same now is it? We let banking bodies close down actual accounts connected to Palestine. They are the ones being invaded
I know you don't believe this, but even posting it says a lot:
So action was taken, Ireland has a vote in the EU, those actions can't be carried out without Ireland agreeing to them.
You can probably bring the Palestine/Israel hornets nest to it's own thread, your insights there will be fascinating I'm sure.
Ireland was aware of Putin's money flowing through the country for years. If Putin has companies based in Ireland they would likely not be affected by the swift move unless trying to send money to one of those banks.
Thanks very much. I appreciate that. However, it's calling out complete bullshit. Pussyfooting around Putin while allowing bank accounts associated with Palestine to be frozen. This is as much a Putin thread as it is a Palestine thread were the gutless wonders in government are concerned.
Russian money flowed everywhere, it has been stopped now due to sanctions.
Here's a secret.
At some point (hopefully with putin gone) the sanctions will be reversed and the money will flow again.
It's called a global economy.
Another stellar performance by Eamon Ryan today lol
Honestly is the man alright?
??
Fine Gael seem to have been very close to the Russians. Methinks there's alot of projection from there end towards SF recently.

Golf outings? 😁
Ohhh too soon.
We were talking about Putin's money. Hopefully Russia will be allowed back in the singing contest soon. Its called the Eurovision.
What a hilariously stupid idea.
how come?
I agree with this. Putting a right to housing in the Constitution would be likely to cause all sorts of problems.
what kind of problems?
Unforeseen consequences. To whom would the right apply? What would the government be required to do?
Could building housing take precedence over providing health services or education?
like what 'unforeseen consequences'? all citizens.... help provide them....
all of these critical needs should have equal precedence....
When there are finite funds, not all critical needs can have equal precedence, but putting a right to housing into the Constitution puts it ahead of health and education (other than primary education). That can backfire, with schools and hospitals being closed because funding is required to put Italian marble floors into McMansions in Donegal and Mayo.
Guaranteeing housing to everyone and anyone regardless of contribution to the state is a joke. Who is going to pay for it? Who is going to manage it? Whats the criteria? Is it a semi-permanent room in a hostel, a co-living space, a 3 bed house? If its guaranteed does that mean people have it for life, regardless of whether they or their financial situation improves?
I've been paying a mortgage for nearly 10 years, can I pack it in and get my free house? Or am i behind Deco in the queue, who just turned 18, hasn't had time for a job as he'd been out racking up convictions?
oh ffs, this sh1t gain, there is not finite funds, money is easily created in both the public and private domains, and with relative ease, the two main methods being when governments create a deficit, and when banks create loans, the limitations being how much debt your economy can sustain, also baring in mind, debt forgiveness, or what we now call 'restructuring', is relatively common when these debts become unsustainable, expect this common policy to be once again reenacted, particularly in the corporate sector, as these debts are now at an all time high, and probably wont be serviceable in the near future, particularly when rates are raised!
yes, you can 'pack it in' if you like, but will probably stand to lose your home, and maybe other assets, such as cars etc etc. once again, very few citizens obtain free housing, as most pay rents and taxes.....
Not this nonsense again.
As has been pointed out repeatedly, even if you are correct in theory, Ireland is restricted in what it can do because of EU rules.
You want to prioritise Italian marble floors in McMansions over hospital beds, don't expect us all to agree with that.
Its a con job. If they insist on buying and leasing this change will only embolden them to push through bad and expensive policy using the Constitution as weight.
Its how we intend to supply housing thats the issue. The housing minister is happy to support the REITs industry in which he has investments.
I'm struck by the "Sincerity " and "Efforts" being put in place by the Government, Department secretary generals being put into gear , Departments to "Waive" the norms when dealing with HOUSING , SOCIAL WELFARE and even the department of HEALTH when it comes to dealing with matters connected to the crisis in Ukraine.
All of course Laudable, but I wondered for a moment, wouldn't it be wonderful if such efforts and determination was evident prior to the Ukranian crisis 🙄
Also curious about the Lack of Determination with regard to the war in Yemen and other horrific conflicts around the world 🙄
The Hypocrisy is breathtaking.
What was it Ryan Turbidy said Earlier about the Ukranians 🤔 and I Quote
"Sure they look like us" 😳
I'll say no more
Varadkar was on the lunchtime news talking about why we need keep diplomatic lines open. He made some good points about needing to keep a relationship. Of course the other day he called Putin 'Hitler'. Top man.
Keep the money rolling
Awkward one for them to answer.
