I'd not be surprised if they carried out a nuclear test, underground or something. They need panic to help ensure victory and so far, thats not happening.
Yes, but he has not condemned Russia or Putin. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too.
It doesn't put that much of a different spin on it, to me. The symbolism of telling the Russian warship to f itself is what people are latching onto, here.
It's like the so-called Ghost of Kyiv. Fairly certain it's either exaggerated, or just plain not true, but what a legend. I get chills every time I think about it. That's the kind of thing to rouse a people.
There's a time to pick propaganda apart, but I think it's after the dust has settled, not in the midst of the chaos.
Easily as no other way. If they weren't supplying same Russia would have far less casualties and much more of Ukraine captured.
Because the former option would likely see them dying themselves and if not having to spend the rest of their days in a nuclear bunker in conditions that seem little different to life imprisonment. And that's assuming they are sociopaths who don't care about the billions of others who would be incinerated, including most of their loved ones. Only someone suicidal and/or insance would prefer that.
Unfortunately the term cool heads and Putin don't belong in the same sentence. It seems he wants Kiev by any means. I don't think it will turn nuclear in the short term but I do think we will see a proper aerial assault on Kiev in the next few days. What he is waiting for is anyones guess.
Yes but there's nothing wrong with trying to cut through the bull to find what actually happened.
Snake Island was a propaganda piece, as was the "Ghost of Kyiv". And I'm sure there will be many more. Pointing these facts out does not make me a "putinbot" no matter how hard certain posters might want to believe.
France denied that Ukrainians in the foreign legion were authorised to go to Ukraine.
Sadly I don't share your optimism.
The EU has long been a talking shop where major players put their own interests ahead, they dithered about Yugoslavia, it took major cajoling to persuade some major countries to back cutting Russia out of SWIFT and bringing in very tough sanctions.
The Germans have been playing a FIFA and trying not to go too far to pi** off the bear because they are worried about how they get hit.
Hey you see those refugees fleeing into Poland, Moldova, Romania ?
Notice how it isn't primarily strapping young fellows but women, children and elderly.
Sunshine that is what real refugees look like.
Now away with you to find your best buddy so you can thank each other's posts.
Firstly he desperately needs land bridge into Crimea.
He wants to carve out industrial heartland of Donetsk/Donbas and make sure Ukraine is economically weaker.
And he wants the old Soviet Union back or at least make sure every leader in the area has to go to Moscow to get permission to do anything.
Remarkably insightful understanding of the situation, especially considering they were made some 7 years ago.

A lot of grain for struggling 3rd world countries is grown in Ukraine. Will there be a harvest this year?
That’s a fair stance to take but the truth is what we are told. The victor creates the narrative of what’s true and what’s false. But in the Absence of being unable to verify these events ourselves, we need to rely on sources , many of whom have their own agendas.
Need calm heads today or there very well could be a limited nuclear exchange, possibly in form of emp rather than direct detonation.
But I'd say there would've heavy Thermobaric usage before that stage.
Were approaching a Cuban level crisis event, but not there yet. Despite Russian losses, they have not operated a scorthed earth or Grozny policy yet.
There is still hope for a solution.
Tbf Liz Truss does seem wreckless and very off the cuff. That's been known for a while.
D'oh! Maybe it was her remark that she would not recognise Rostov and Voronezh as Russian Oblasts!

Why wouldn't they?
the core of Putin and the generals won't want to face justice...and retaliate with nuclear weapons.
So they would see a nuclear holocaust that kills billions as preferable to whatever 'justice' you are implying?
Apparently Liz Truss is to blame for the move!
I would not call the authors of these statements by name, although it was the British foreign minister. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a press briefing
Good news for Ukraine, bad news for Ireland. Most aircraft leasing is based here.
All I care about is the truth, people assume you are taking sides when you point out something they dont like, when in reality it's just pointing out when the wool has been pulled over your eyes.
I do not like Putin. I do support Ukrainian independence. I can still point out blatant propaganda from either side. I can speculate as to what Putin's endgame is, but that does not mean I endorse it.
This is a discussion board, to discuss things. I would think that finding the truth amongst the BS is central to that point.
Theoretically one could say that virtually anything is propaganda depending on who is reporting it. All I heard of that particular one was that communication was lost after the warship attacked. I didn't see any confirmation that they'd been killed, just reasonable assumption. Like you say, it's kind of irrelevant either way.
This issue can't be "both sides"'d based on propaganda. Ukraine is being invaded, of course it's going to use propaganda. To lie and to cheat and to do whatever it can to repel the invaders and demoralise their forces. When a woman is being raped by a man, she is advised to bite and rip and tear and gouge and do everything she can. There is no rule book that a victim has to follow when being attacked. No rules of engagement when it comes to removing invaders from your country.
The patriarch. The same prick who rattles on about Christ and all that stuff who lives in the lap of luxury, with limos everwhere and the ear of Putin wears 40 grands worth of wristwatch. They even photoshopped it out a la Stalin, but forgot the reflection in the table. 😂
But a lot of Russians are religious, like old style Irish Catholic level religious and think this dickhead is holy and would support and listen to him.
I think it's the sanctions that is going to have the most devastating impact on the Russians, not so much the military resistance by the Ukrainians. They can cover up the latter but the sanctions are going to bring home to the Russian public that their great leader has made a catastrophic error.
I don't remember Wibbs posting anything racist on this forum, and he's been around for years. You're going to have to provide links if you want to take down one of the most respected and knowledgeable posters on Boards.
@cnocbui Fair play!
Been saying for days now, that this is the inevitable trajectory of the conflict.
Russia becomes completely isolated from the international community; the core of Putin and the generals won't want to face justice; will concoct an argument that the West is responsible for bringing down Russia - and retaliate with nuclear weapons.
A huge amount of discussion and decision making in offices around Dublin this morning.
Hundreds of billions blocked so far. Good assets (sovereign bonds, etc) that can be sold.
Plus the Yanks are increasing their controls
"The United States is expanding sanctions on Russia’s central bank in a move that will block Americans from engaging in any transactions with it and freezing any assets it holds in the US."
I’m still trying to get through the book “saipiens”. But a central theme is humans figuring out ways to control and fk over other humans.
I’ve always thought of myself as a non conformist to the point of belligerence at times. Note, I didn’t say “thought of myself always correct”, more so somebody who can quite often default to a challenging perspective on the status quo consensus. My posts very early in the CoViD thread, late Jan or early feb 2020 (when people were harassing those Of us wanting to discuss the implications if it spread), is some proof to this point.
So the west is corrupt and has its own propaganda machine working away. We don’t really understand the motive of Putin. I don’t have a problem with those statements.
For what little historical insights I have on the Ukraine, it seems like the Russians tried to basically starve them out of existence in the 1920s and replace them with Russians. Kind of like what the Brits tried to do in ireland.
I can see you challenging the “pro Ukraine”narrative but to what end? Trying to understand why Putin is doing what he is doing , doesn’t change or validate his actions. As such it comes across (even if that’s not your intention) as a defence of what he’s doing.
Given all this, what exactly is your stance on the topic? What should the EU do? Is it that we need to build an army if we are going to talk big? Is that your problem , that there’s all this bravado talk with “no stick?”.
The whole story was based on them bravely going to their death by telling Russian to f**k off. Finding out that they didnt die but infact surrendered and were captured puts quite a different spin on the story.
Source on the island being bombarded? It appears the soldiers surrendered in the end and were captured. There is no proof that they were "attacked".
Propaganda is another name for misinformation, even if it has good intentions like boosting Ukrainian morale, as observers we have every right to poke holes in the bullshit lest people get carried away and start believing lies.
Nah.. the Politics folks were never happy about the CA forum in the first place. Leave them at it is my attitude.
I have no idea why you pinged me, or what you are trying to say.
