Do youn know for sure that applies to Russia?
In a crisis, it would be very much up to Putin how to react and whether to escalate. Like a US president, he has access to a nuclear briefcase, the Chegets, with nuclear launch code. According to an analysis by the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey, the defence minister and chief of staff of the armed forces are also supposed to be involved, but in Putin’s Kremlin it is unclear whether they would act as any kind of brake on his actions.
Don't be terrified. Putrid and his buddies may well realise the game is up but( apart from him being killed from within, which I would love to see happen) they know it will take years if ever to get them into a court room in de Hague.
The Chechen thug army hit early and reported some are returning back over the border.
I sincerely hope that that you are right!!!!
I hope that his inner circle is not like a cult, who have been brainwashed to believe the them versus us narrative at all costs (à la Jonestown)
But lukashenka can't, thats why
Putin must be trembling with rage staring at the walls.
The Russian army has been shown up as a joke, not just on the ground but as a cohesive force and at the very top at every level.
Their economy is going to be crippled.
The entire western world is united again them and they've become a pariah state.
He's like Mussolini invading Greece or Africa, but he doesn't have a Hitler to ride in and save him.
Honestly, what does he do now. He doesn't strike me as the "humble pie" sort of man.
Someone said earlier he's simply sticking with the sunken cost fallacy at this stage and that appears to be exactly it.
Yes I agree, but my point was and is sending Russians home isn't ethnic cleansing.
I remember a Russian girl I know telling me a few years back that she didn't like Putin that much but in her view he represented strength which we(men) in the west lack. I always found it funny and I internalised her comment from the POV that she was right in a way, that Russians had different values and Putin personified them. It's sad how catastrophic this caricature of masculinity turned out to be.
I was there during the Velvet Revolution commemorations in 2019. Amazing! Probably is a rock concert happening as well.
So much for part of Russia’s much vaunted A game/team.
FX markets would be open in Asia soon enough. You don't need to wait til tomorrow morning (here time)
Do you remember the photo of him riding a horse bare chested through the forest, doing the rounds a few years ago.
It is alien for us to imagine one of our leaders doing something like this
Dont forget Putin hand picked every person who reports to him. They’re hardcore loyalists.
Putin has kids, grandchildren, an ex wife, cousins, so too the generals. They do have stuff to lose. I don't get the impression he has the same cult of a personality that we associate with Hitler and Mao. I don't even know if such a thing would be possible anymore. With Hitler it seems like a one in a billion chance thar someone could develop that level of worship.
Ah now In always think it's good to have all strands of political opinion represented on the forum, even the Londonderry branch of IRSP
Doesn’t mean they’ll want to go down in flames with him.
What do you call it then? Ethnic deportation?
Whatever you want to call it, it is a horrendous idea
Communist rats
Thanks fu$k for that. Nobody wants to see Micheal going around half in the nip. Well, maybe some of ye do, but that is a different matter.
MLM on a horse with her bangers out? Nah, doesn't do anything for me
he'd be like Leo then in the phoenix park
So you approve of ordinary innocent people being blamed. Lets sent them home then what. Do you think that Putin will listen to them or do you think what has happened to thousands already will happen to them and be arrested and put god knows where. Did you support all Irish been interrogated during the troubles. Did you support the loads of Japanese that were put in to camps when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. It will do 1 think and 1 thing only and that is severe resentment by ordinary Russians (who do not want this to happen) on everyone and maybe harden attitudes for Putin (or whoever takes over after him) to carry on
Purely idiotic crap too many people have played Call of Duty, Counterstrike or the like on here
So did Saddam Hussein, but he ended up having to “liquidate” them and install family and clan members, partly to ease his own paranoia. Putin may go down the same route, but he is starting from a much weaker place.
This is as close to the hypothetical situation of imagine what Hitler’s last days in the Bunker would have been like if he had the nuclear codes as we are likely to see….
Can he launch them or does someone else have to turn a key or press a button ?
Yes, Hitler restored national pride and military strength after defeat, humiliation and poverty. Putin has made the rich richer yet many of the former USSR states are doing much better linked with the EU rather than the Russian economy. He has been popular due to his posturing but he has been leading the ordinary person in the street down the plughole.
Reports coming out that the Antanov AN-225 the worlds largest plane has been destroyed by the Russians.
Do you remember in the distant past; 200,000 russian tropps being amassed on the borders of Ukraine and sage voices thinking it was just bluster and for negotiation leverage?
I am a lot more worried than you are. I fear Putin is going to threaten Ukraine with tactical nukes if they don't immediatly surrender, and that they will be used as soon as the Ukrainians rightly reject the terms. Putin will say 'I told you there would be repercussions you never dreamed of, but you didn't listen', thinking he has the moral high ground, no doubt, and he will reiterate it again and warn the world that it was their fault and that they just need to accept their guilt and heed his warning not to respond to his justified action.
The alert status is both a warning to underline his threat and preparation just in case the west is stupider than he thinks.
I am truly a bit scared.
That should be closed too as a consequence of this war. That is a huge bugbear for Lithuania and the baltics in general. Close the port and hold a referendum on crimea.
You drank the Kool-aid son. Consult your nearest pharmacist as soon as possible.
They could very well indeed take him out. Especially what with all the covid restrictions lifting.
What do you think he'd like? Cinema and then a Meal Deal in Supermacs? He might have higher standards though...........might need to go all out and go for the extra value meal.
