So my sister has a smart TV that she bought 5 years ago and wants to update its software

Is this possible? When she bought it was a run out model so a year old already basically.

She says it can not be updated anymore and can not use The RTE Player and some other apps on it now. So is there anyway she could get the software chip updated in it or would it just be cheaper for her to buy a new TV?

I think it's a Samsung.

Get a Chromecast TV or Amazon Firestick instead.

Both devices will be far superior to the software on the TV and will be supported for longer with all the apps she requires.

I have on Amazon Firestick. I might give it to her as it has never worked for me. I just don't have good Internet she does. Could she get the RTE Player on that?

It works for most things she wants it for. Sure she would love to replace it but she can not afford that at the moment.

Maybe in the future she will.

I have to completely disagree, most tv are connected to a sky box, Chromecast etc for content. What a complete waste to bin something that works just fine.

Try a Now (tv) stick, 15euro at present, RTEplayer, VMplayer, YouTube, tune in radio, sub free and Netflix with a sub. Based on a Roku stick, I find them very reliable, plug it into HDMI and power it through a micro USB plug.
