What?
True- but if you speak Russian as a first language then you probably get your news and info in Russian , ie from the Russian government -
Heard today of a couple of ethnic Russian Lithuanians, who told their boss that it's a civil war in Ukraine ,and moscow has gone in a a peace mission ...
Whilst i know many here believe that if we push too hard against Russia that Putin may strongly react and go extreme. It's a valid point but what he has done here with Ukraine is just gone too far.
We can often look at the short term and see Ukrainian and indeed Russian soldiers being slaughtered and innocent Ukraine civilians being bombed and murdered on the streets, this long term causes trauma for an entire population. Children right now are being subjected to horrors, even without direct contact the trauma of displacement, leaving family behind or hearing missile attacks will all have lasting impacts. Adults although more resilient in some ways will face this trauma as well.
Having spent time in Bosnia and seen the very real and modern aftermath of war it is scary to think of the implications to Ukraine, for this reason they need every help now, right now and help for decades into the future to heal the scars of war.
Some could read this as justification for Ukrainians to give up and save themselves from the physical and mental trauma, Its not... not one bit. The trauma that long term Russia will impose will be far worse upon the Ukrainian people. We need only look at information shutdown and beating of its own protesters on the street as evidence of that.
I hope the world stands for justice and ultimately for meaningful peace achieved through the moral good.
In short: Shut Russia down and back Ukraine with everything we can get to them...
Yes
If I may expend on this. Even in today's age of night vision goggles, FLIR and what not, the cover of night still goes a long way towards providing both sides with advantages. Night vision systems, whether infrared-based or background light amplification based, by their nature restrict the field of view of the operator and almost eliminate peripheral vision. They are also susceptible to blinding by flares or similar bright & hot light sources. Outside of that, the night obviously conceals movement, especially when combined with, say smoke generators or other cover/decoy methods. Any military commander who is worth their salt will attempt to use the night to their advantage while trying to prevent his opponent from doing the same.
It is about effectively hitting Russia in anyway effective. Hitting the wealthy with sanctions and stripping of assets would be more preferred than killing some 20 year old soldier who is put to war by his short short dictator.
When people in Russia see they have all this oil but will never be free to spend it on goodies in the west then they might feel differently about Putin and/or take him out.
Although Ambarmovic seems to have to recognised this himself and has "perhaps" had a moment of clarity and decided to do the correct thing.
I see. Well perhaps you are right but it does seem extreme to me since I thought some of these people came to Europe to get away from Putin unless I have that wrong, and they were integrated into UK economy etc.
Sanctions against Russian oligarchs have been ongoing for like a decade or so. Most of them tend to have close ties to Putin hence targeting them. It's far from scummy to target in that way. Do you support the economic sanctions? They're gonna hit the oligarchs too...
I can't find the link - but the Americans put out about a week and a half ago that this is how it would run - a big push then a pause - to call for "peace talks " and regroup alter tactics then another push and a pause . And repeat till either the horrors of war bring capitulation or they get the Ukrainian government -
The report was predicting a siege of kyiv ..
Not pretty ..
Yes I support the sanctions
Not sure how that disputes what I said in any way. You seem to be agreeing with what I said but am angry that I said it.
I would very much detinguish between a flat in Mayfair bought through a shadow company in the British Virgin Islands and the principle private residence of a Russian plumber with a mortgage in Hull.
Abramovich just handed over control of Chelsea the the trustees of the teams charity foundation.

He was obviously reading my posts on here and got a bit panicked.
I think he thinks I'm still President or something.
He's dead? Great news for Ukrainians if true
Russia looking at counter sanctions
"During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the Club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.
I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, players, staff, and fans."
Sorry about the copy and paste. Stewardship and care is an interesting choice of words, would love love to see the transfer of shareholding document and details of the ultimate ownership.
Honestly - there should be an explicit threat hanging over Russia , if you try turning any city into Grozny it will trigger an air war over Ukraine .. It was done for Kosovo - it could be done again
Bit late for that. Ukraine will be in Russian hands in a few days.
Here's another Russian chopper that won't be bothering the Ukrainians anymore.
Wow, Germany completely changes tack, will send 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 stinger missiles to Ukraine.
I'm surprised that this was even allowed to happen.
I mean, didn't Putin threaten anyone who interfered / got involved.
I would have thought this kind of military assistance is just as bad, if not worse, at prolonging the conflict against Putin / his army.
Why would Putin even allow this, if his threat is to be taken seriously at all.
Yes, I think it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
The threat of bringing back the death penalty really highlights how utterly regressive Putin's regime is domestically. Similar to the regressive anti gay laws .
Who is the guy standing next to him in the photo Valeyard, if you know? I recognise him.
If you up the ante like that Moscow will retaliate. You want to bring ww3?
USA has the death penalty
Think that's Ramzan Kadyrov, current Chechen leader.
With all the weapons on the way Russia will end up fighting NATO , technically anyway.
