Can't help thinking that it's going pretty much to plan for Russia. Largely B team sent in first. Target infrastructure, disable or secure what you can. But but most importantly- get the women and children moving, cause a refugee pile up, get eyes on enemy positions and in a few days send in your best and do your worst.

Hopefully Turkey blocks the the Russians from using the Bosphorus straits. The more international pressure comes on Russia the better. I was encouraged by Russia's statement about halting their advance on Friday. It's a bs statement but it confirms that they are struggling to advance. It's clear that Putin is deluded. It's clear that the Russian people are being fed a nonsense narrative. Hopefully in this information age they know this to be the case. I'm hoping against hope and to some extent logic that Ukraine will hold out. At worst make it an Afghanistan scenario for the Russians.

Ukrainians can travel for free by train in Poland. One of the mobile providers announced a few days ago free minutes for calls to Ukraine to facilitate communication with Ukrainian families.

SkyNews reports that Ukraine government is asking citizens to remove road signs so that the Russians can't navigate toward their destinations. I suppose it helps but how amateurish must the Russia Army be if that is the only way they'll use to get to their destination.

They sent National Guard and Riot Police units into front line action. It smacks of desperation at this stage. Something is off with this so called superior military force. The planning of this whole misadventure has been shambolic and certainly doesn't give the impression that the Russians have professional competent Armed forces.
CNN just did a poll asking "should NATO go to war for Ukraine?" 77% said yes.
I wouldn't say desperation as much as frustration.
They underestimated Ukraine's capabilities and seem to be correcting for this mistake.
If they are still trying to siege the major Ukrainian cities in a weeks time then you can be sure frustration will creep in.

As ridiculous as it may look, these old buckets to have one major advantage: Maintenance can be done easily in the field with just a few tools and a hammer. They're not designed to go into combat so they don't need any electronics besides maybe a handheld radio, and given the age and ubiquity, there's probably entire mountains of spares available for them.
Sweden have said now that they won’t play Russia in the WC play offs. Czech Republic will now no doubt do the same. Gives FIFA no option now but to kick Russia out
What they definitely underestimated was the groundswell of support across the world for Ukraine and its people. Just look at every iconic building lit up in the Ukraine colours 🇺🇦.

I'd imagine Putin's recent meeting was to urge them to do exactly that as it would have been ideal from his perspective, however, I suspect the Chinese who were keen on the idea are probably reconsidering after witnessing the worlds reaction to this horror.
