Lets hope it stays that way and the Ukrainians can hold out long enough to make this Russian invasion untenable. I have to say again that the courage, example, bravery and leadership shown by President Zelensky is nothing short of remarkable. With Kiev almost surrounded and the US saying get out now he turns around and says "the fight is here I need ammunition not a ride". Incredible.
With every day that Zelensky lives he taunts the fascist midget in the Kremlin and Ukrainian resolve grows. He's showing real moral courage and leadership of the highest order.
When has Putin ever put himself in harm's way for the benefit of the Russian people or anyone else? He was a grotty KGB man in the DDR running Stasi operations from the safety of his office hunting innocent Germans that opposed the regime. That's the height of his bravery.
one on its own probably not so effective....but multiple at once....
Unconfirmed reports that Ukranian troops in the east have launched missiles over the border into Russia which struck Millerovo airbase destroying planes and setting part of the base on fire
In for a penny, in for a pound. An escalation by Ukraine, but it's already a war for national survival so why not take some military target scalps over the border?
The didn't get him and the capital didn't fall, but, I fear last night was only the start though of the ground attack on Kiev, there is probably a larger group waiting a few miles away ready for the next offensive, there was plenty of explosions and gun shots to be heard, but actual soldiers on the ground didn't seem to be right in the heart of the capital, I reckon a lot of what we heard last night was air defence?
Boris is going to play a blinder during this
this is excellent news if true...
biden has to be more careful in his verbals because putin will take it at face value whereas trump is a joke
this Tweet should be shared in as many Russian arenas, blogs, forums and websites as possible. This is not turning out the way many of the Russian Army conscripts were led to believe.
That's more killed in 36 hours than the US lost in 20 years in Afghanistan.
Think that video is from 2014
That video is from 2014, however it does demonstrate the effectiveness of petrol bombs. Ask anyone who lived in the North in the 60's and 70's...
How verifiable is that data though? We are living in the era where misinformation is a weapon in itself.
No idea what he's saying but there's defiance and a steel behind his eyes. A very very unlikely wartime leader, but someone both Ukrainians and the international community (that isn't Mick Wallace) will rally around.
The contrast between him and Putin couldn't be starker. A comedian and accidental president finding his strength on one hand, and a fundamentally weak man that's spent his life coveting power pretending to be strong on the other.
Sorry what? How is that relevant? Can we not condemn Russia abhorrent actions without fighting for Ukraine , tool.
True. There's a post going around Ukraine saying " Remember when we used to laugh at this guy!"...
Did the Russians manage to take the thermal power plant out last night in the end?
It looks like putin thought this would be another Georgia but surely he’s not that stupid, he’s entering a Vietnam situation here and it’s going to be ugly for Russia
coveting power and a personal fortune
You will hear successes from both sides. Its a propaganda war aswell as a military conflict war. You can't believe everything you hear or read.
In my lifetime, I don't think I've ever been inspired by anyone as much as Zelinskyy these past few days.
I often wonder if there's something wrong with me as I generally don't get upset by world events, even when the footage is there for all to see. Things like 9/11, multiple humanitarian crises across the world, mass terrorists shootings etc. I can absolutely acknowledge the tragedy involved and I see them as very sad situations, but they usually don't make me upset or have an impact on my mood.
It was the same story for this invasion, until I watched Zelinskyy's speeches and have seen his actions and leadership. He has absolutely sparked something inside of me to the point that I get a lump in my throat every time he makes fresh statements or posts videos of himself still in the capital.
Ive often thought that fighting for your country should never trump your immediate responsibility for your families safety and needs. I've been of the opinion that "no, I need to be with my family, and that's more important than idealism and patriotism. Unless I have no choice, I would rather flee war with my family rather than fight."
Before, I could never see myself straying from that opinion, but having seen Zelinskyy's leadership these past few days I am genuinely questioning that thought. For him to have that impact on me is crazy because I'm as stubborn as they come. Of course it's easy to say "I'd fight for him" when I don't have to, and when I can type this online from the comfort of my home.
But this is true leadership and inspiration. If he ends up a casualty of this war, I'll be absolutely devastated and even the thought of that is upsetting me.
Either all that, or I'm just getting softer as I get older!
3'500 Russians killed in the first 48 hours sounds a bit fanciful to be honest.
Do you believe everything you read on Twitter?
It seems a real possibility that Putin has lost his senses completely. Anything is possible now. The best case scenario is that he is deposed from within. The worst case scenario is that this escalated into a situation where the Baltics or Finland are attacked, the internet goes down, and we spiral all the way down to a nuclear exchange.
Agreed, that man is a hero, as are many in Ukraine,
You'd love to read the profiles of him developed by in-house psychologists at the big intelligence agencies. I'm lay man when it comes to this stuff, but the contempt he shows for subordinates and the pleasure he takes in displaying that contempt would lead one to believe he has a pretty profound personality disorder, and one that has gotten worse with age and the isolation and paranoia of his role. I wonder how he is around his kids and partners for instance - is he domineering? coercive? abusive? Does he overtly display empathy?
The way things are playing out, with the determination of Ukraine and increasing unease of the Russian public, you would have to think Putin's days are numbered. Looks like a serious miscalculation (and pet project) on his part.
Was just watching a news report there where they were interviewing a local builder guy who had joined up with the civilian resistance and he was saying that he wanted to defend his country and his people and if he died so be it, he’d try take down 10 of them. God bless that man, he must have a sore back from carrying around balls that big.
Haven't they gone through some new training and development stuff in the last 10 years or so. To bring them to par with Western training?
