Yes, China was always going to be spooked by this. The know-nots think that the Russia - China relationship has substance. Real alliances are built over decades, have the feature of deep economic integration, people-to-people links, and above all are characterised by trust and a shared political value system. Sino-Russian friendship lacks all of the above. The Russia - China relationship rests on two paranoid men from countries that have historically been at odds leaning on each other because they are scared witless they'll hang for their crimes someday.
I posted it before, but "no honour among thieves" is the watchword for that relationship.
True. But Putins strategy like Hitler seems to have been based on lightning warfare. I would have thought with technological upgrades since 1945 and the sheer size of the Russian Military, they'd have steamrolled the fast majority of organised Ukrainian defence. But so far this does not seem to be the case. Large scale combat operations are ongoing and Ukrainian command & control appears to be intact.
Tonight will be interesting, we may see the full might of the Russian forces to sieze the urban centres, could have been the strategy from day one. Wear down resistance, then strike hard.
Then again, Ukrainians are fighting very hard for their homeland. Easier to defend than attack.
There was talk of a US led cyber attack...
Kyiv is only small distance from Belarus where the traitor Lukashenka attacked Ukraine. He's also now a part of crime and soon will be trialed, sentenced and convicted for war crimes..
I don't see it happening and I know it's borderline delusional wishful thinking but Jesus Christ how sweet it would be if they can hold on long enough for Putin to die/be made dead.
Hopefully!
To be fair to Trump I think we have seen the last few weeks just how right he actually was in relation to Germany...
As they kept saying on CNN the other night, China doesn't have allies.
They all end up the same way..
Imagine Putins plane flying to Belarus for talks met a Buk missle on the way
Like you said, we'd all love it. But the sheer size of Russian forces (and quite a substantial number has not even crossed the border yet) Kyiv will probably fall. Happy to be wrong though!
But the fall of Kyiv is not the end of this by a long shot. Ukraine will become a tomb for Russian soldiers.
Id also believe their are a few Russian generals who'd love to put a bullet in Putins head right now.
Those damn rebels again...
This is where Molotov cocktails will do the business on prone tanks.
Interestingly, the name Molotov cocktail was coined during the winter war with Finland, and the Finns named them as such as a little gift to the Red Army because of the Soviet foreign minister's crude propaganda about Finns. Sound familiar?
He was right in that he's a moron and couldn't understand that there are things other than confrontation that (usually) work more effectively than war.
Ireland? I would say we are a tiny tiny part of their economy...they are possibly a decent wee chunk of ours though (meat, dairy, seafood, pharma products)
The visa waiver for Ukranians at this time is something I am incredibly proud of our government for offering.
We can't do anything for them militarily, but being a safe haven for their refugees is incredibly useful.
I like the Ukrainian flag meaning. Blue skies over fields of wheat. Hopefully the country can return to these peaceful scenes.
The Gabon have formally come out and announced condemnation of Russia.
thought Russia couldn’t Veto as they are a party to the issue.
China abstaining is as good as you will get from them, they will never say anything or do anything
, China is number 1, getting involved either side doesn’t help them.
they might only be abstaining as they know Russia can Veto and so it means nothing really, So the US/EU is appeased and Russia also.
China can sit there smiling at everybody while plotting their demise.
China will suck up every resource Russia has to offer and smile at them while they are doing it
Yes, I'm really fond of their flag.
UN resolution failed, 11 in favour, 1 against (Russia) and three abstentions (UAE, India and China).
Russia voting against is actually against UN Charter rules and not one person mentions it!
Mexico too , does that mean no russian missles or bases south of Texas now
That is pretty terrible. Russia has reserves that will eventually overwhelm but they decided how many to go in with. After 2 days that is nothing given Russia's superiority
Tinpot operation, at the rate this is going down the Ukrainians will end up gaining Belarus and be scratching their heads wondering what to do with it. 🤣
Jokes aside, it's very David vs Goliath and they seem to be doing ok for now. I hope good prevails here.
The numbers aren't completely overwhelming, yet at least. If a decent proportion of attacks are repelled then Putin can start throwing soldiers at it for a while.
It actually seems like the Russian plans didn't expect much in the way of counter-attacking. Getting bogged down this early would mean it'll take a lot longer than planned.
China and Russian have an invariably terrible relationship. Check out the Sino Russian split, the numerous disputes and wars over borders. They couldn’t even agree on socialism. It’s always been a very shaky “keep your enemies close” type relationship. There’s plenty of tension between the two when it comes to China courting ex Soviet’s republics in Eurasia
So China abstained? Success.
Jasus hes spot on.
Blood on Germany and the EU hands. All fart and no shite in their response to Russia
They've completely lost Ukraine by attacking them that way in the first place..
