If it is a genuine attempt at a ceasefire then yes of course. I'm just worried about either a ruse by Russia or just how awful the terms for Ukraine will be. I'm definitely not a fan of war.
That's the only play now but it would depend on Ukraine not accepting Putin's first terms (complete demilitarization) and Russia accepting lesser terms.
Silly statement perhaps but do Russian allies not realise that if Russia takes over most of the world (big generalisation I know) that eventually it will also screw over its ally in time. People like Putin don't stop and they live for killing.

I woud't trust them either but diplomacy should always be given a chance. Zelenskiy is now saying that Russia will attack Kiev tonight, so I guess talks are off the table bar some last-minute miracle.
I doubt they will be rushing to join NATO either after it's last experience with them.
Word that China will abstain rather than vote against the resolution on the UNSC. Doesn't make a material difference straight away but a sign of trouble?
Do not underestimate the ability of someone dealing with the devil to fool themselves into believing they hold the right cards.

Is Zelenskiy desperately trying to hold it off on talks though? I haven't seen transcript of his message so don't know.

I'm loathe to defend a Russian state apparatchik at a time like this, but the man is in an impossible position. Just a week ago he was declaring the prospect of Russia invading Ukraine 'insanity', and a few short days later he has to appear on Irish media with his arse hanging out.
A little tell-tale sign that the Russian state is suffering badly from Hitler in a bunker syndrome. When your diplomatic service doesn't know what the hell is going on and the behaviour of the state is orientated around the whims of a man deep in the throes of a war lust psychosis ruling by diktat, they're in deep trouble.
It's difficult to think of another major country's diplomatic service would be left to hang out to dry like that. The war was signposted clearly to anyone paying attention, but the poor sods in the Russian foreign ministry have to read from the maskirovka script. They must be so bamboozled from all the sh*te coming down from high from the inner circle that in order to stay sane, you have to believe it yourself.

2 days, not a week. Russia progressed far if citizens are describing skirmishes outside Kyiv. That capital is in the heart of the country. You suppose the resistance to impede their progress closer to the border where the tanks rolled in. Fact Russian tanks are this far in means the resistance must be taking a hammering.
