Is that so.so explain how you come to this conclusion.
No, I understand the Ukrainians wanting to resist...it's their country after all. Take note of what you quoted. I referred to the attitudes expressed (and the manner of those expressions) on this thread.
You are in the wrong tread again. At this stage I think the grown-ups here should chip and buy you a compass so you can find a thread relevent to the shite you post.
The same question will apply. Is supporting Estonia worth American cities being nuked.
Shouldnt you be out with a wirebrush and White Spirit cleaning up red paint?
No harm, but do you really think theyd charge Putin with war crimes over those 2 incidents?
"Vladimir Putin, you sit here charged with war crimes for hitting a playschool with a shell and an armored vehicle running over a car (thankfully noone died). How do you plead?"
Average every day Russian, sure. Putin does televised Christmas masses and if the general populace isn't particulary religious then that would indicate that he himself more than likely is.
Wow, I mean wow! The first thing he's ever said or done that I could admire.
"Russian military ship targeted MILLENNIAL SPIRIT vessel 12 miles from Pidvenniy port"
They have really been having fun shooting ships.
"NAMURA QUEEN (IMO: 9841299) Bulk Carrier caught fire at Pivdenny port after she was targeted with projectile"
Afghanistan was a much different time, and the geographical location is important. Ukraine is a far different scenario. Between sanctions and international pressure, there's a lot of possibility for the peaceful release of Ukraine, dependent on certain assurances by the West. TBH I doubt that Russia will be able to remain in Ukraine for longer than a decade, and would likely leave well before that, if they were given the excuse to do so. Ukraine is going to be a massive headache and economic drain for the Russians.
That's what we know of, within 48 hours. You'd be certain there are other incidents like Russian soldiers dressed as Ukranian soldiers and engaging in gunfights. There'll be plenty of examples by the time this is finished if this is the rate they're commiting war crimes at.
Attacking Ukraine is maybe not the smartest move by the end of all this, but it's too early to predict what the outcome will be and what happens in the longer term for Putin and Russia...and Ukraine obviously.
But it's not totally devoid of logic or indictative of a madman. Putin knew there would be sanctions and condemnation and was prepared to weather that storm to achieve his goals. Will he achieve them remains to be seen, and if the price will prove worth it.
Attacking a NATO country is another ball-game altogether and if he was so stupid as to try it, we could safely assume he is, indeed, a madman. A well prepared NATO force would flatten any Russia attack. Even Putin has publicly acknowledged it, hence the threats of nuclear war if there's intervention in Ukraine.
That's true and it's something that gets lost sometimes in these discussions - it's often just assumed that being ethnically Russian or a Russian speaker equates to a desire to live under Russian rule. If someone assumed that English-speaking Irish people wanted to live under English rule, they would be corrected on that fairly quickly.
I'm not bothered by the Ukrainians engaging in a resistance. I referred to the attitudes on this thread...It's quite interesting the way posters are ignoring what's written to push perspectives that weren't stated.
This Moscow regime spokeswoman on Sky News at the moment is feisty, mildly irritable
I just did, by giving a concrete example that countered your hysteria.
In the era of smartphones in every hand surely these things would come to light almost immediately?
Also the orphanage/kindergarten was several days ago no? In Donbass held by separatists?
From what we've seen so far it does not look like theyre committing mass war crimes - if thats their intention theyre not doing a very good job. Sure just look at that video of the ukrainian man trying to stop russian convoys, the russians are frantically swerving all over the place to get around him. An easy war crime to just run him over and carry on, no?
Can someone with knowledge give a brief history of how the soviet states came to be? I have been watching videos but getting confused.
It was all Russia in the tsar? And eventually lenin and the communists took over and drew borders for the soviet states? Why did he do that? Why allow them to have autonomy when they wanted full power?
And I guess the USSR collapsed when all those soviet states saw the results of communism, being poor etc. and they wanted independence?
Article 8
War Crimes
[...]
Extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly;
Other serious violations of the laws and customs applicable in international armed conflict, within the established framework of international law, namely, any of the following acts:
As @correct horse battery staple points out, this talking point is a Russian propaganda one designed to inject uncertainty and disquiet into the discourse amongst smaller nations.
"Will NATO really protect us if it kicks off?"
The answer is yes, because if NATO doesn't act to protect the small nations then it may as well not exist at all. The stability of NATO is threatened far more by a failure to defend Estonia than a failure to defend the US, which doesn't need Estonian rockets to defend itself. If Putin invaded Estonia and NATO did nothing, then every other small country in NATO would drop out and it would just be US, UK, FR and DE left holding the ball.
Please don't parrot Russian propaganda, even innocently.
You have one foot in Australia yet you one of the most full-throated posters for using Ireland as a vehicle for anti-Putin/Ukrainian nationalism.
Ireland is militarily non-aligned and doesn't have a military essentially. So we're in no position to 'get tough' with anyone let alone a large empire.
Technically it depends on the exact activities being conducted. It could be classified as a ruse de guerre. Of course, even if it were done in an illegal manner, who is going to do anything about it?
An embassy is inviolate, but not foreign soil, by the way. Irish jurisdiction still applies.
Sergei Lavrov was afflicted by the same confusion this morning.
How about the video of a Russian soldier filming himself smiling with unguided MLRs firing into a civilian population? Pretty sure that's a war crime. Jesus, are you really trying to defend an army that is clearly antagonistic and has absolutely no care for wartime conventions? They literally rolled into Ukraine without provocation using some false narrative to try and justify it. It's disgusting.
Italian prime minister 🖕
Italian prime minister Mario Draghi successfully secured a carve out for Italian luxury goods from the EU's package of economic sanctions against Nato, EU dip tells me. 'Apparently selling Gucci loafers to oligarchs is more of a priority than hitting back at Putin,' source adds.
There is that historical mythology bollocks that Slavs like to indulge in and it's spread right across the region. Russia is really no different on that score and this is all about Putin's vision for the Motherland.

Begins with the Bolsheviks and the massacre of the Romanovs really, from there its been various communist and communist-lite iterations with a desire to spread their ideology (and territory)
It's the ultimate summit of embarrassment and peak cringe when folks like that advocate that Ireland should expose its "tough stance against Russia", and even worse when the likes of Coveney and Martin stand at press conferences trying to sound worthy of being listened to.
