Odd way to put it. Germany doesn't have a choice right now, they are completely reliant on Russian gas and they can't change that in the short-term, not overnight and not in a year. All they can do is speed up plans for alternatives. It's likely Ukraine will fall, there's little the world can do to stop that.
One wonders how world leaders could ever stomach meeting Putin in person at any event after this and the total lies he is and has been putting forth.
Countries seldom stand on principle alone. Money and self interest have always been the chief motivating factors in conflict.
Merkel outsourced German energy to Russia and frankly its Foreign policy.
That's not changed. Berlin needs to pick a side, though it already has.
Agreed , Also if he’s caught it’d destroy any chance of a sequel to one of the best movies ever made “love in the big city 2”
Oh my god 😲😒
The look of disbelief from the interviewer says it all.
Meanwhile Eir and Siro (ESB/Vodafone) are heaping in the Huawei gear to supply essential infrastructure in the form of broadband access networks that none of us can avoid using, and they seem to see no risk whatsoever on so doing.
China - a great bunch of lads!
Actually they could quite easily. It is not 1975, those countries have combined, larger, fully professional and fully NATO equipped armies than Russia. The real issue is everyone knows Russian military docterine, as soon as their army is beaten they will lob in a couple of nuclear warhaeds over the heads of the Polish/Czechs/Slovaks.
A nuclear warhead is a battlefield weapon in the Russian army in addition to their Strategic Nuclear weapons.
Those Jewish Nazis etc etc

Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova and Maj. Gen. Borys Kremenetskyi, the country’s defense attaché, toured Dover Air Force Base in Delaware as workers loaded pallets of Javelin missiles onto at least one Ukraine-bound commercial plane. A similar shipment was packed onto another commercial aircraft at Travis Air Force Base, California, on Jan. 22.
“We’re examining how support can be provided in a post-invasion scenario, and no final decisions about the mechanisms have been made yet,” the official added
Meanwhile the conflict is taking away from climate change which is the real tragedy apparently:
Putin is not a war monger by choice you say, as his 4th war is under way, one of the biggest in decades. You Putin bots are funny, brazenly so.
He doesn't want covert power, he wants the Ukraine to be a province not a State he controls.
Wall Street Joe is doing well, no doubt on this but
Half joking, but anyone with a sky sports subscription for watching English football, which is FULL of oligarch money, should consider, as a matter of good taste, canceling that subscription and boycotting the premiership until it is cleansed of dirty money.
Russia denies plans it's going to occupy Ukraine, in the same way it denied plans it was going to invade Ukraine.
Russians will turn this into a man hunt for the photo ops. Find zelensky
While it would be great to see countries stand on principle, the reality is that doesnt happen anymore. At least not here in the west - money and economic realities come first. Germany will be happy to let Ukraine fall if it means their energy supply is safe.
Incredible 😔. Hopefully Zelenskiy isn't caught, that would demoralise the whole of Ukraine.
Dublin embassy and Russians who work there. Throw manure.
Stop purchasing Vodka? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What kind of numbers do you think?
I am picturing Ursula VDL with a totaliser and a red marker....
Weapons have been handed out to the Ukrainian parliament. Zelenskiy is on the move and in hiding (foreign dignitaries having issues trying to communicate with him). Unbelievably surreal scenario.
I don't think it has changed.
Meanwhile...
In the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review, the Trump Administration announced its intention to expand the US nuclear arsenal under the doctrine of so-called “flexible deterrence,” including a tactical nuclear weapons upgrade. The administration claimed that even if these nuclear weapons were detonated on the high seas or in airbursts, they would still be in compliance with the principles of the law of armed conflict—as long as they were deployed against military objectives.
Absolute nonsense.
Serious question. Is there anything an ordinary European citizen can do to hit Russia? Is there anything that can be boycotted or if it comes to it , burned down?
We'll see what happens over next while timmy depite usual messages of demoralisation.
I'm still hoping they (EU countries holding back on more complete cut off of Russia) realise that eventually, the longer this goes on, there's just no way forward without accepting economic pain. It's a very bitter pill after Covid, and an economic shock/recession/depression could be politicially destablilising also, but am sure that is part of why Putin is going for it now, at this time.
China/CCP is de-masking too and showing what it really thinks of us here in Europe during this as well. People who hate us deeply really and wish for and work towards our ruin while they take our money and buy our business/economic elites.
Hopefully when they do a bit more of that (backing a crazy dictator engaged in a war of aggression on the borders of the EU) it will hasten the process of disconnecting from them too but their tentacles are hooked in alot deeper than Russia's.
No I think its more that there wont be an airstrike there for fear of releasing radioactive materials
Good that they left 👍
Let's not exaggerate ,those countries could not beat Russia, it would require the combined forces of France, the UK ,Germany Along with the former Eastern Bloc to comprehensively defeat Russia in an all out conflict
Even taking NATO out of it, Poland is fully part of the Western world whereas Ukraine is/was on the edge of it. An attack on Poland would attract a huge amount of weaponry and volunteers to defend it, many multiples more than what's been sent to Ukraine. I just don't see Poland being left on its own, like Ukraine. An invasion of Poland would be the end of Putin's experiment in regime change.
