The EU and the UN are fiddling while Ukraine literally burns.
Kinda feel like we've been here before
Threat of nuclear warfare makes things very delicate and complicated. What do you suggest?
Yup, and we all remember how that turned out
Already addressed. Its miniscule and its a result of the rising dust due to the influx of heavy military in the area, nothing more.
Nuclear war is many steps away. Europe is being weak and its playing into Russia's hands. Maximum sanctions, Russia out of swift and arm the sh1t out of the Ukrainian army.
Do you think if the west sits back and takes a few quid of some of Putins friends and does feck all else that he'll stop at Ukraine?
I’m willing to send him ( or her) a pint of black if someone will organise transport ?
The difference though is that WWII was fought with conventional weapons for most of it. Here they're dealing with an adversary who could incinerate half the planet in under 30 minutes.
We've been lying down in the face of evil for at least a good 20 years tbh, so we're quite good at it. Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Hong Kong, Uighurs, Amazon deforestation, and countless others by a lot of different countries. We'll stay lying down cos it suits us at this stage.
Excuses, excuses.
It's that Germany depends on cheap Russian resources, and that's worth more than Ukrainian lives.
Putin can count on Berlin.
What was the podcast ?
I'm very aware of how a total war would end the world, but we can't roll over and show Putin our belly. Russia has always kept pushing the knife in until they meet resistance
They do rock up with bags of money to destabilise countries, bribe politicians and swing elections with promises. They've been doing it for decades.
no doubt he envisaged the sanctions imposed
I read an article a few days outlining how Putin has been preparing for these sanctions since 2014
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-60480904
Doesn't even take bags of money unfortunately.
Stir up divisions online and watch societal unity crumble. Easy and cheap. Look at what they've done to the GOP base in the US - it's unrecognisable from the days of say, Reagan.
Russian saboteurs eliminated in kiev.
I see Russia have seized control of the Chernobyl plant in the Ukraine - probably re ignite it to kill more people in Europe with Nuclear Radiation !
It's depressing. Nothing left now only apologise to the people of Ukraine and do our best to look after their fleeing people.
We've failed them.
'The head of the Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, has tweeted about deorbiting the International Space Station over the US or Europe in response to the sanctions.'
That sounds like it should be the name of the Roscommon Space Agency.
They won't do that, it would be very bad news for Putins puppet in Belarus. Its a main route to Kyiv from Belarus, and a good staging area as its not likely to be attacked with arty etc by the Ukrainian army
Lad broadcasting live on Sky News in kharkiv and you could hear the thundering in the background. Would this be bombs hitting buildings or is it the sound of a missile rocketing through the air?
Not going to share it, but there is footage doing the rounds of a Russian tank running over a civilian vehicle in Ukraine. The vehicle was in motion at the time. We'll probably never know the details, but it looks like a war crime to me.
Probably rocket artillery, grads or something siimilar
The way to end this is to get the Russian people to turn on Putin, how the west can so that ? Destroy their economy ? Propaganda ? Any other ideas ?
I can not believe this is real. As a Russian, I am ashamed of what is happening, and I ask the forgiveness of the Ukrainians for my inability to stop this terrible war. How cynical to talk about your own safety when you yourself ignore the safety of millions of people. I have never supported the current Russian government, nor have I ever voted for Vladimir Putin. Nevertheless, I am infinitely ashamed.
I'm pretty amazed that people think NATO/US will engage the Russians over the Ukraine. They will sanction them to the stone age but they'll be allowed take Ukraine, wether they can hold it or not. Now if Putin crosses the NATO redline then that's another story but Putin isn't stupid enough to do that.
People just fail to understand the gravity of the US in conflict with Russia.
seen the videos there, is it classed as a war crime to use the uniform of your enemy to carry out attacks?
Putin may be a psychopath, but the Russians aren't the cartoon demons that the west used to portray them as during the cold war.
Chernobyl was identified as a key asset because it's "in the way". It's near one of the key routes from Belarus to Kyiv, and the Russians will want to avoid any serious fighting from taking place near it in case the power plant is struck. So secure it, and move past it as soon as possible to keep any fighting away from it.
Nobody is stupid enough to fvck around with it.
The reference by Black Noel was to NATO's alleged actions. Are you saying that Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania were bribed into joining NATO? Total rubbish.
Raul Duke III: are you implying that NATO or somw other Western governments have supported the rise of Trumpism in the US? This must win some sort of Nobel prize for fiction.
