Wondering out loud if this is the plan from Russia to be used as a pretext....
Yes oil and gold .
Apparently ballistic missiles were launched into Kiev at about 4a.m. our time.
People are fools if they think that this will stop with Ukraine. How far will it have to go before the US and Europe is forced to intervene….
The UN Security Council is voting today on a draft resolution to condemn the Russian invasion and asking them to withdraw.
Russia has a veto. What could possibly go wrong?
The second Putin makes a go at a NATO country. In the meantime Moldova is in a very precarious position to say the least.
Feels like a lot of commonality with the beginnings of WW2 alright... Germany take Austria (Anschluss, which was of course one of the many banned actions in the treat of versailles), and nobody did much because the two regions had such a united history - very similar to Russia taking the Crimea. Then Germany took Czechoslovakia, with more furore, but ultimately the rest of Europe stood by in the name of preserving peace. Very similar to this Ukraine invasion. Do we really expect it's not gonna follow the same path, with Russia moving on Belarus or Latvia or something next, as the equivalent of Germany moving into Poland?
The big difference is the feeling within the country itself though. Germans were spurned and spoiling after what they felt were unfair sanctions and reparations after WW1, and were ready for this sort of move. They felt the rest of Europe owed them.. it was a fairly populist affair at first at least. Does your average Russian really want all this? I can't imagine they do.
And how can they intervene without it being all over for everyone.
People have to realise it's not going to be a battle like saving private Ryan.
If Putin decides to attack a NATO member then we had all better worry it's all over.
Russia does not have a veto, yes normally as a P5 member they would, but, under Article 27 (3) of the UN Charter not when a party to the conflict.
Great synopsis of how I feel!
They have intelligence that they will move to Poland soon.
I wonder if Nazi Germany had social media, would we have a different picture of the support that Hitler had from the ordinary people?
I feel like crying when I think of the ordinary mothers and fathers who will a await the text from their kids… And it will never come, because their children are dead
Yes, almost the same time as the day before and still ongoing.
Russia won't invade a NATO country, to do so would mean a contest in which they are staggeringly outmatched and the possibility of a catastrophic nuclear exchange.
They are only in Ukraine now as it wasn't in NATO, and are there in a large part to ensure it never will be.
Putin has been aggressive, I still don't believe he is insane.
When people have nothing to lose (Putin will likely be tried as a war-criminal. His economy is crumbling. His support is crumbling), it means that they are at their most dangerous.
Must have missed that, they got hit yesterday too?
If NATO countries will not, or cannot, directly intervene in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, then I suppose that means that if this conflict becomes really difficult for Russia, they could hit the country with a nuclear strike. What would anyone do about it? Hit Russia with MORE sanctions?
Some commonalities with WW2 exist but, remember, in 1939 the nuclear deterrent and an alliance of the supreme power of NATO didn't exist.
I don't expect this one to continue on a Hitlerite course.
They got hit yesterday too?
Either your joking or hiding under a rock the last 27 hours?
Putin doesn't even have to invade a NATO country. One mistake by a pilot wandering into the wrong airspace and this could turn it into a nuclear holocaust. So many scenarios how this could affect the whole planet.
I said missiles entered Kyiv this morning. It was the first time, unless you have proof otherwise please post it up. No idea why you’re being so aggressive.
Ukrainians putting up fierce resistance this morning per multiple reports. They attacked a Russian airbase in Russian territory with missiles. Also took out a column of Russian tanks. Stopped two advances.
Huge columns of Russian armour moving north from Crimea, lots of commentary on how old the vehicles look, from the 80s.
Trojan Horse?
I agree, and he's not going to let himself be beaten without trying everything he has at his disposal.
This has been coming a long time when we have seen some of the most powerful nuclear nations being ran by total mindless fools. Trump,Johnson, Kim,Putin. It was only a matter of time.
Kiev is going to be a bloodbath. Anyone who's left is armed. Hard to see how the Russians hold on to it if they take it.
Leaders in the west did not act belligerent we would not have ended up in this mess. Minsk agreement was signed seven years ago and Russia for most part held the ceasefire. Nato kept interfering and we end up in a situation Putin invades to keep Ukraine in the sphere of Russian influence,
The pentagon are saying the idea is to ‘decapitate’ the government.
Are we to assume then, going by what we have been told about refugees the past few years, we should see all the men come first, who have left the women and children in a warzone, and then they will send for them afterwards when they have set up their new lives somewhere?
I saw a ban on 18-60 year old men from leaving the country.
UK Defence Secretary has said this morning that Russia has lost 450 personnel so far.
Obviously that can't be verified, but Western intelligence has been pretty much spot on so far.
I don't see how the Russian people will stand for this. I wonder if Putin has been busy factoring in the cost of economic sanctions that he has forgotten about the Russian people and perhaps more importantly those around him who may think he has become a danger to Russia itself
Nothing says holding a ceasefire more than invading a foreign country violently... The belligerent force here is Putin.
The Russia/Putin apologists still trying to justify these horrendous actions, shame on you.
So that justifies what is happening now.
Like for like I would say. Hey
