It was a harrowing day in the world and global markets. Intense fear and a flight to safety 18 hours ago turned into risk taking later in the day as sanctions were announced.
The market was fearful of cutting off Russian commodity exports and sparking global shortages and inflation. As the US and UK sanctions were announced, it became clear that wouldn't be the case. Russia's banks and some oligarchs were targeted but nothing that will materially slow the global economy.
I got Appetite for Destruction but it didn't make me want to kill my neighbours and take their house "just because". Great album all the same.
I’d say this is going to backfire spectacularly for Putin.
Some 1,702 people in 53 Russian cities have been detained - at least 940 of those in Moscow.
Hopefully these protests will amplify in the coming days and weeks.
Nigel Farage admitting he was wrong, but re-affirming that Nato and the EU shouldn't have been seeking to spread further to the east; and he's right, too.
Putin is dreadful, but we shouldn't poke him - anymore than we'd poke any other psycho with nuclear weapons.
gullible? not at all.
My post was just about the state of the world. Sure... this is a war. Is it any different from anything else? from people.... to life in general I guess. Everyone thinks they are right no matter their actions.
Guess I have to adopt the attitude of "slitting your throat for a fiver" - because I expect the same from you. Given your comment.
Just because the US/NATO are not putting soldiers into Ukraine, I am guessing they are sharing much of the intelligence that has been, and is being, gathered. At least the Ukrainian army are not wandering around in the dark and know where the Russian formations are. I would also imagine that there will be a fair flow of arms and ammunition going in from Poland and Roumania too.
Voters really need to stop with the "oh what harm could it do" or "shur they couldnt be any worse" when casting thie ballots.
They will always have the Costa del Beijing.
He's coming from the school of thought that teaches:
You might look at that that and think that such an outlook is retarded at first viewing and things are often more complicated than they first appear. In this case however, you would be right. It is fcuking retarded.
There is also the option of dropping a 500-ton structure to India and China. Do you want to threaten them with such a prospect? The ISS does not fly over Russia, so all the risks are yours.
As the head of Roscosmos you would think he would know that a 500 ton structure falling from space does not just fall to the ground as a 500 ton structure, would likely be broken up by the Earth's atmosphere to little or nothing.
I am glad that Biden is in power in the US, he will act predictably, with purpose and transparency. He has won the war of righteousness and has not been provoked into knee jerk decisions or rhetoric. Thats what we need a smooth ship to keep the rabble of europe on track and not working against each other.
No, you do not understand what I am saying.
That's the problem, if someone mentions America in a thread about Russia doing something bad (or vice versa), everyone automatically jumps to conclusions that the poster is trying to deflect or make excuses.
But not everyone is trying to do this.
Some people just want to discuss the full spectrum of the issue.
You cannot fully discuss the issues in this Russia / Ukraine crisis, without also discussing NATO and America too. Because we know that NATO and America is a huge part of the storyline. This is not really even disputed by most experts.
I'm not necessarily saying Putin and Russia are correct to be motivated by NATO and America in this crisis. I am simply acknowledging that it is a fact that they are an integral part of the bigger picture of this story. Putin has mentioned both on many occasions now.
I'm not saying you have to like this, but it is a fact that they are part of the narrative. Whether we like it or not.
Trying to ban any discussion of these aspects, or brow beat people into not mentioning them, means you will never have a proper full discussion on the issue.
Like any narcissist it will be someone else's fault when it does.
They're not Putinbots. They're people. Sure, their posts are indistinguishable from those of a bot and it's clear that their minds are a husk, incapable of independent thinking and confined to repeating the nonsense that they've been unwittingly programmed to repeat but they're definitely not bots. They're just virtually indistinguishable from bots. The difference is subtle, and online, the difference is zero.
You have fallen hook line and sinker for last weeks propaganda.
Putin has annexed Belarus in reality. Thats what would happen Ukraine even if NATO said they would never join.
If NATO has not allowed Baltic states to join, said they could never join... they would be like Belarus now.
Why do you think long standing non NATO Finland and Sweden are worried by Russia?
Even Putin has moved on from this lie. Now its that Ukraine isnt a real country.
Maybe you should too?
Its only all about NATO in the sense that anyone not in it is at risk of Soviet dominion.
Which is why it was invented.
Well the three indo MEPs are lost causes but what’s Sinn Féin’s position on the situation in Ukraine ? Is MEP Mcmanus going on a solo run or not ?
I find that figure very hard to believe, that's not far off the number of Allied soldiers killed on D Day.
Ongoing fighting tonight in Sumy city in northeast Ukraine
Western nations and their sanctions. Obsessed about money. Rational actors respond to sanctions. Putin couldn't give a toss and will in fact use such sanctions to great effect as a tool for propaganda.
selfish inhumane market bots
Possible stupid question but I’ve heard Ukrainian people calling for a no fly zone.
Who enforces the no fly zone?
Are they looking for NATO to do this?
Okay I will indulge you with a single question - is the current invasion of Ukraine justified? if the answer is no, then any whataboutery about NATO and the US is pointless (at best) and not deserving of any discussion whatsoever.
I think Putin has over stepped the mark. Even for the Politburo. I expect a
Night of the Long Knives scenario to play out. Bye bye Vladimir 👋
Does he realise a lunatic like Putin would have already achieved his goals of the return of the USSR of it wasn't for the deterrent that is NATO? He sounds like that other clown Boyd Barrett
It's obvious from looking at social media that the Ukrainian forces have inflicted a lot of pain to the Russians. What's not clear is how much the Russians have degraded the Ukrainian forces.
As the Russians move further into the Ukraine then this will turn into more of an asymmetrical conflict and one thing is for sure, Russia's going to bleed.
The tonight show on Virgin media one is rather interesting. It included an interview with a mum and her child sheltering in a railway station along with hundreds of other people, clearly terrified, heartbreaking.
Let's see if they rip into that dipshit Ming Flanagan over his votes in relation to Russia.
Oh it is being brought up now...
He voted against it...because he "didn't think they were sincere"...ffs
The sanctions are not against Putin.
They are an embarrassment to our nation.
