On the day their country was plunged into war, Irish blowhards stand in front of the national parliament giving it maximum "Yes, yes Putin bad BUT..." then start off a rant about Nato. They should have shut their mouths and listened to the Ukrainians on what was a deeply traumatic day for them.

We've all seen the pictures on the news of anti war protests in Russia and people expressing their anti war stance. But seems that these have all been in Moscow and St Petersburg. Relatively cosmopolitan cities. I think that Putin probably has decent support in the regions. As an anecdote, I've a good friend in the Crimea right now (trying to get out), and says that the public are overwhelmingly supportive of the invasion down there (for obvious reasons). Russia is a big place, and I doubt that the views of Muscovites and St Petersburgers are necessarily representative
The left was at this craic for years before the right got themselves brainwashed into the dribbling idiots that they've become today. Tankies and commies have been defending Russian imperialism and brutality for decades while claiming to be anti-war and anti-imperialism. On the right, a steady diet of disinformation has turned many of them into Putin-apologists which would have been unthinkable 20 years ago. It's bonkers but neither the left nor the right is immune to this idiocy, particularly at the fringe ends of the horse-shoe.
Vlad may have a problem if his troops are not motivated. It's all grand rolling over a border when the guards surrender with the adrenaline pumping. Once they are meeting resistance, are they really passionate enough to give their lives for the motherland against people who they probably don't hate?

The Russian plans seem to be faltering in places, the Ukrainian militaries retaking of the airfield neat Kyiv will be a big blow to Putins plans.
I wonder how long they can keep up this pace of combat? If their logistics and resupply routes face difficulty it will be tough for morale within a conscript force like Russia's to stay high.

There is no justification for a nuclear war by interfering in the Ukraine crisis, as awful as it is - and as awful as Putin is.
Better to support and defend the Ukrainian people going forward, supporting long-term resistance, and crippling Putin economically.
