The more public land they sell to private developers who create full-rate housing, the worse off society in general will be. We should be using public land to, as much as possible, deflate the housing market and drive rents down across the board by providing a large scale non-profit alternative to the current paradigm in which having a roof over your head is a mere side effect of you paying for someone else's entire retirement.
Saying "private developers have to fill the void" gives the government an easy get out of jail free card for doing absolutely nothing about anything, ever. "The government are screwing up, so we need to privatise and profitise what should be a public interest non-profit sector". F*ck. That.
Insinuation ? the leader of your organization for most of its existence said it on tape and published it ? lol
everything else relating to sfira is subservient to its criminal and terrorist activities regardless of you trying to hide it from younger voters with the lies.
how can you trust them on housing or health when the threat of murder hangs over us all ?
Are PIRA still active militarily in defiance of their commitments to the multiparty agreement?
No, they aren't as far as I can see.
If you know different, or more importantly, if the government know different, then the onus is on them to inform the electorate of that and to take action against those who signed up to the multiparty agreement.
Would you agree?
Because they know they have one shot, literally one shot at being the genuine leftist change that their newfound legions of young voters are demanding. One shot. If their true colours turn out to be as neoliberal as FFG, they will be brutally and apocalyptically punished for it at the following election, and they will never, ever be given another shot at power.
And there is absolutely no possibility whatsoever that they aren't fully aware of this. That's how you can trust them - they know that their longevity as a mainstream force in Irish politics is entirely dependent on following through with their ideological arguments over the last number of years. Party loyalty doesn't exist among the floating voters SF have hoovered up, you either attempt to deliver what you've promised or you are abandoned as quickly as you were adopted. See Labour and FG 2011-2016 for a perfect example.
Broadly my view too.
I am a 'floating voter' you speak of. If it turns out that PIRA are still active militarily, they immediately lose my vote. If they at least attempt to deliver their promises they would always be considered for a vote, as any political party who attempt to deliver what they promise would.
Like any floating voter FF and FG and all the others can regain enough trust for me to vote for them again. Some have more to do than others on that front.
Militarily and criminally active , in smuggling drug dealing fraud and arms sales , as well as just being the average scumbag that come natural to them
tbh your ideas re ira were exposed as a delusion yesterday francie
again your previous unelected leader feels happy to make statements suggesting that they haven't gone away.
assuming politics and justice have the same goals is a teenage delusion
Private developers are developing mixed estates. Which is the way forward. No need for huge social housing estates
So, do you agree that the governments have failed to take action and that is a breach of the GFA?
There are very clear measures that have to be taken if a signatory to the multiparty agreement has broken that agreement.
Tough one here for you mike, it is time to put up or accept that your information may be from dodgy sources. Official sources are either corrupt and breaking an International Agreement or there is no evidence that the IRA pose a threat.
That simply won't cause rents and prices to fall anywhere near as quickly as we need them to. Dramatic state intervention on the supply side is required to force a deflation, by providing non-profit housing on a massive scale.
You can hardly hold up any of the party's involved as efficient at dealing with crime or even the criminals in their own ranks , but to replace them with a OGC is akin to turning Ireland into a third world country . The GFA has many many flaws , excusing murder being one major one. its what we dont know about sfira and who was never brought to justice is something that they are so keen to hide from young voters? GFA was breached man many times by sfira and not dealt with to prevent a return to the terrorism that they inflicted on the country for decades
how many members of sf would you say took innocent human life, rapist bombers , criminals of all kinds francie and are you happy with with them being minister for justice of defense ?
Well, yes I am happy with people who came out of a conflict/war and signed an agreement to serve in government as my father's generation were.
Ridiculous question in an Irish context. There is nothing unique about the situation we find ourselves in.
Sure there are plenty of country's in the third world where gangs of criminals killed nd terrorized their way into power if that's what you aspire to francie ,
fortunately i don't think that will be tolerated here , we have evolved a bit since the 20s
I wouldn't agree that 'gangs of criminals killed nd terrorized their way into power' to form this state.
I think groups fought an oppressor and in the usual mess a colonist leaves behind engaged in a civil war, put the guns and violence away and built a state.
Not so different to the most recent conflict/war.
Also the state is a guaranteed customer for these funds so why would they need to lower pricing?
Not to forget the housing minister has investments in REIT's.
"Sure there are plenty of country's in the third world where gangs of criminals killed nd terrorized their way into power if that's what you aspire to francie ,"
tisk tisk busted again trying to misrepresent what i said again francie ? if your looking for a accurate analogy look to africa or asia for the results of terrorists achieving power and the consequences of that
Michael Collins, Eamonn DeValera. The murderous terrorists fought their way to power that you accept.
see where i said about evolving since the 20s ? na ? try scrolling
Really? We have evolved as humans or just the Irish?
The Real IRA don't have a vote anyway are they not abstentions?
I read your disclaimer. NI wasn't in the same situation as we were in the 1920's. They only have a peace since 1998. So try wrap your head around that.
Sinn Fein will adopt whatever populist ideology they need to get to power. Bringing down the state is their aim so it doesn't matter to them how they fool the voters.
Again, I ask, for you have failed to answer.
Do you consider the men of 1916 equivalent to the CIRA and the RIRA?
So how come they didn't mirror FF or FG populist policy and lies back when SF were on 5%?
Their supporters would. Except some would still see Collins as a sell out I imagine. His terrorist colleagues certainly did, hence the civil war. One man's terrorist...
Populist: what you call party's whose policy you oppose. As hackneyed and subjective a phrase as 'terrorist'.
Still both of those phrases are a hundred times more objective than the partitionist label beloved of those who can't debate.
The €200 free money wasn't populist nor was arguing with NPHET :)
Partitionist: one who promotes/advocates for partition.
Populist: Any party that buys votes, see: any party of the power swap in the history of this state and any opposition party of this state. All of them engage in populist politics when required. The job of the voter sadly is to be aware of this and consider what they will actually do.
Terrorist: One who uses terror to achieve their aim.
Tell me Patrick, is the housing crisis unique to Ireland and it’s policies or is it occurring elsewhere?
Maybe the commodification of property isn’t a result of Irish government property but a consequence of more than a decade of negative interest rates and quantitative easing.
When we had the celtic tiger bubble we sold off public land and demolished social housing estates.
For the last ten years or so we have assisted and been a customer for the various funds pricing the private buyer out. We've radically reduced our social housing builds.
Thats the main cause of our problems in housing.
The housing minister having investments in REITs might play a part.
