I don't really see what else they could have done. A 1960's type showdown with nukes at the ready?
Invade Russia? And in winter at that ? Napoleon and Hitler both tried.
If I hear that ponce Paul Murphy TD going on anymore about "American imperialism " I'll throw up. How anyone votes for that clown who between euro mep pension and td salary is pulling in 3K per week I'll never know!
The Russian ambasator was on radio saying such things as Russia will not envade Ukraine, the west is getting all upset and highteningtensions , etc ,etc, etc. I other words this is all ‘hot air’ so everybody should relax a bit and cool down. He should now be interviewed again , IMMEDIATELY, and explain what is happening ,. I am sure that he would have no problem as he will respond IN HIS OWN WORDS. Or what about the foreign affairs committee inviting him in to UPDATE us on things
Also, Russia is a key member of the UN. So why did the UN not put a peace keeping force in place in Ukraine. Did Russia make any effort to apply for such a move to the UN ?
i
the UN will immediately have to review its structure and how it is governed. It’s madness that Russia is currently Charing various committees within the UN ancluding those committees ‘discussing’ the Ukrainian issue
All of the above BEGGARS BELIEF
just heard the Ucranian ambassador on morning Ireland and no Russian ambasator. And RTE did not state that it had invited the Russian Ambasator on but he vas ‘ otherwise engaged’ !,,,,!!!
Russian stock market suspended again, down 40% today.
F*ck the Russian government and anyone either backing them up today or equivocating over this invasion of Ukraine, including the trolls on this board.
For negotiations or a shared future concept to work people have to be prepared to negotiate honestly. That is something Putin doesn't do and he has no problem using the power of Russia aggressively to get what he wants. For the rest of the world, it's things like sanctions until they are forced into a physical response. The only real sanction might be on energy but that hurts everyone else and China could happily take up the slack on it.
I know...I have already been corrected twice and responded on the thread.
That's rubbish in my view. Putin has been building up to this moment for many years, he would be going for it now irrespective of who is in the White House. I suspect if Trump was still in situ the sanctions imposed would be substantially inferior than the ones being levied now.
The reality is that the Russian military reforms unveiled in 2008 took over a decade to implement and the Russian foreign exchange reserves haven't been sufficient until recent times to support a protracted wartime economy. Putin wasn't ready to go to war under Trump. If he was then he probably would have. In fact, it would have been more beneficial given Trump's reluctance to levy sanctions and his unwillingness to provide support to the Ukrainian military.
I'd imagine Trump's failure to get re-elected actually gave Putin pause for thought as to whether it was wise to undertake the decision that he has just taken.
They are probably sorry they are not ready now to invade. This morning would be the perfect morning to invade Taiwan.
Usmanov sold his stake?
It absolutely disgusts me that when you pay sky or virgin your monthly subscription part of that goes to mouthpiece station.
Nonsense. Did he decide to wait over a year after Trump was gone for the craic?
I don’t think Ireland should be selecting politicians to vote for on account of their aptitude as a war time premier.
And the response from the world is radio chatter and we will punish putin with a few sanctions on his mates , meanwhile Ukraine is burning.
Cowards .
No point mentioning certain posters either nothing but bottom feeder trolls ,
I said this was coming.
You can see this location on Google maps. Just northeast outskirts of Kharkiv.

No way does Putin attacks with Trump in the white house, he knows Biden is weak as chips, and Borris is a absolute joke.
Your views on Putin goes without saying. No one can argue otherwise
But it is also the case that the multilateral and security infrastructure and real peer pressure has failed. Russian hold the current Presidency of the UN Security Council - that says a lot.
Sanctions exactly that. They did nothing in 2014 in fact some states increased their investments with Russia.
This started nearly a decade ago
I find with this particular poster, the ignore button works fine.
You forgot NATO...NaTo CaUsEd IT!!!
Classic demoralization propaganda from RT
Its hilarious how some of the posts here will blame everyone but Putin for this.
Sorry, i meant pathetic, not hilarious. Putin started this. His megalomania, cowardice and utter disregard for international law started this. This is nothing less then an illegal invasion of a European country.
Christ how people can bang on about Trump or Biden. Putin invaded and occupied Ukraine since 2014. He doesn't give a shoite who's in the Whitehouse. It's the beginning of his end imo.
How long that demise takes is anyone's guess. This could eventually escalate into WW3. Can't see Vlad stopping if he secures Ukraine.
They took any money they can get and continue to do so Gazprom plastered all over champions League coverage
there were far greater sporting sins in respect to Russia. the money he sunk on Chelsea was probably more effective than any sanctions. What did FIFA do, the IOC, UEFA….they gave direct credibility.
This is the reality now
How many lives will be lost..truly scary times. Sanctions aren't going to cut it clearly.
Stan Kroenke is the sole owner of Arsenal these days. Usmanov sold his shares in 2018.
Trump would have stood in Mariupol waving a Russian flag. He's already praised Putin for his actions.
Nazism never went away, it just changed colours.
Putinist Russian Nazi scum.
Yeah but it would be very different if it's tourist zones and random attacks!
They won't do it obviously and the west are weak as shît and putin knows this, how are those sanctions looking?
