Poland are not reliant on Russian gas, they have over a years stockpile of gas and last year decided not to renew there contract with Russia for the gas which is due to expire shortly.
There suppliers of gas is now Qatar and America.
Pretty sure steamrolling into a country on weak/false pretences is asshole behaviour regardless of what circles you move in.
timmy....if Putin was a normal sane individual I'd agree with you, but so far his actions have been anything sane rational or normal. Unless you consider him to be sane and normal, even after the Duma meeting? Maybe you would trust an unstable person with a nuclear arsenal, but I would not. Remember all the " there will not be any invasion, its all talk and bluff" to get concessions?? Well, as far as I'm concerned, Putin is a man on a mission, and a life or death one , if he does not get what he wants.
And make sure you post what I said in the following posts after that one as well.
Just like in the cold war, there were numerous things going on behind the scenes speculated by many, that cannot be proven by any of us. Does that mean none of that stuff happened? None of the cold war espionage, spying or covert operations happened, because we can't prove it?
You can choose to interpret my posts how you wish. But I'm the one who wrote them, so I know what I was saying. I never once pretended I had evidence to prove my opinion. But then I never stated it to be an absolute truth, just an opinion. So there was no burden of proof.
You can go round in circles like this all day if you wish, but I'm sure everyone else on the thread will be getting bored of this nonsense.
Like I said, perhaps you guys should go off and take this little discussion among yourselves to PM. Might be better than forcing everyone else on this thread having to read such a pointless back and forth.
You are confusing a proper chain of command with Putins dictatorship
I'm not sure that is fully accurate. I remember reading an article a few years ago implying he was beholden to certain backers and powerbrokers. This article was speculating on why he would never be allowed to retire, because he was irreplaceable to these people. I'd be inclined to believe it. The Kremlin is a very shady place. I don't think Putin wields all the power there.
could the EU defeat Russia by combining its forces and marching on Moscow? IMO-no
That will depend 100% on what he thinks at that moment....yes, we all know that he has threatened to use nuclear weapons, and every says that he is only bluffing.. the big question though is he?.
He is a smart guy, and would have access to greater information than any of us here.
There are plenty of other smart guys with greater information than us saying the opposite. In effect, you're choosing to believe Putin over other national leaders. Putin is a proven liar and a dictator. You're either purposely spreading misinformation or you're delusional.
It's a possible yes ,in a conventional war I believe they could defeat Russia militarily ,the biggest issue is a sheer lack of unity especially coming from countries who have grown and become modern and independent thanks in no part to the EU , but now it's ohhh you want to impose sanctions why would we want to do that Russia has been good to us
Jesus lads I'm no fan of US politics or Biden, but you're absolutely deluding yourselves if you think Russia isn't pushing to invade Ukraine right now.
Putin is a full blown dictator, he's positioned himself into that role since the 90's at least and has taken great strides to remove any competition from within Russia, has added more and more troops to the Ukrainian border and they've already killed one soldier.
Careful.
People around here will demand that you provide irrefutable evidence of your assertions that the great freedom and democracy loving nation of the USofA, are installing friendly governments in nations around the world.
I on the other hand, respect your right to hold that opinion.
You may be right, you may be wrong. But you're entitled to express the opinion! 🙂
yes thats the main problem the EU would have, it would not stay conventional as the Russians fight dirty...it looks like 80% of Russian forces are now ready to go, so invasion very very very imminent
Lol
But if you have an opinion with no proof you cant just state something like its a fact and then not expect to be called out on it.
Anyway I agree this is derailing the thread so ill leave it at that.
Ukraine isn't in NATO so sanctions are as much as will happen.
Different story if a NATO country was invaded. Then it's bye bye Russia, and probably many other countries!
Anyway, this will fissile out when another chunk of Ukraine is annexed. Until the next time..
I'm not trying to turn this into whataboutery, though. I recognise that the USA has done wrong in the past and Russia would be correct to point that out now or at the time of its happening, but I do not think that it invalidates the USA calling out Russia on its own wrongdoing in this instance. Two wrongs do not make a right for Russia. And it is Russia's wrongdoing that should be under the spotlight at this moment since it can still be prevented from happening.
Anyway, this will fissile out when another chunk of Ukraine is annexed
Very unfortunate malapropism. Sorry, just could not help pointing it out, I know this is a serious subject.
Putin was Yeltsin's protégé, and designated survivor. So what ever political / party / financial backing Yeltsin had, Putin was groomed to be the figure head ( at least ), easily managed and controlled, but over time, I believe that he ousted or compromised everyone and he became the Big Boss, the Chief. His word is the law of the land. Having said that, he is not immovable but it would take a majority of the behind the scenes members to do it. And unless things are going really badly for these people, it will be hard to reach Putin removal critical mass. But Ukraine could just do that....
hey, good image, but thats not what the diagram says, it says they support ukrainian territorial integrity, the countries in green condemn
I'm calling bullshit
None of us really know who is telling the truth here. You've clearly decided that you believe the western/US narrative on all of this. Which is your right.
I don't think the west/US are as trustworthy as you and others obviously do, so I have a different opinion.
Holding a different opinion isn't the same thing as spreading misinformation.
I didn't state it as a fact, you chose to interpret my post that way.
And there shouldn't have been any doubts after the subsequent posts, as I clearly stated that I was expressing an opinion not an absolute truth.
But now we're all crystal clear, anyway, so we can move on.
He won't nuke them,
But he will bomb Kiev back several centuries
Jaysus, imagine if those lads had to report on Halloween in Ireland....
Look i didn't want to keep this going but you keep insisting you didnt state it as a fact when your post clearly shows you did.
Not just me but other posters also called you out on this looking for evidence. It was only then you started back tracking a bit.
This is going to be my last post replying to you on this because its just getting tiresome at this stage.
Also quoting the Pentagon as saying "it's possible today is that day" and "they [the Russians] are literally ready to go now".
Perhaps they want to celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day a little different this year?
Mod - Stick to the topic of the thread.
Do you know what the topic is? It's in the name of the thread, one word. Any more 'but... but... but America' posts (from anyone) and it'll mean a threadban. Thread is hard enough to keep track of as it is so fast moving we don't need this drivel clogging it up
I watch her programme quite a bit, she is an excellent presenter.
What else should they be talking about?
