It is part of the Sinn Fein playbook to bring back discredited and debunked arguments in order to distract from their current troubles.
They show two fingers to living victims in Northern Ireland with their behaviour, they have no right to call anyone else out on anything.
This has been done to death but the reason there is a revulsion towards the PIRA is their 30 years of war and their penchant for murdering women and children without a care in the world.
You answered a question I did not ask.
Sinn Fein are not going to do anything for young working people in this country to buy a house. Why would you think they are?
Both IRA's did the same thing and carried out the same acts.
Did the old IRA carry out a 30-year terrorist war with no democratic mandate from the people they were supposed to be fighting for?
You know you are on to a loss when Tom Barry himself was scathing of the Provo's and he was no shrinking violet.
It is simply ahistorical idiotic rubbish to equate the two as if they are both exactly the same...
If you really want to go down that road, sure the Real IRA were the same as the Provos, the branch of the IRA who murdered 29 people in Omagh... sure you may as well say the Provos are just like ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
As do the rira and cira
I think he walked into that one.
I expect a u-turn soon. :)
I literally quoted your question twice and answered it twice. Maybe you didn't like the answer which is fine.
You can quote it ten times if you want, doesn't mean you answer my question.
You like the old tangents and whataboutism
They started an uprising and a civil war, with no mandate from the people. They partitioned the country with no mandate from the people. They carried out murders with no mandate from the people.
Some terrorists you like, some you don't.
Now you are saying comparing their actions is claiming they are all the same organisation. Thats not what the discussion is. You can compare the BA and the US armies without saying they are the same organisation.
Oh stop with the singling out of one side in a conflict/war. It is ridiculous and exactly the type of thing Martin is getting torn apart for engaging in.
If it was only 'one side' you wouldn't have an international agreement where two governments undertook to change the conditions in which people were living, promised to enshrine equality and parity in esteem (which were patently not there) and one government who we now know were colluding with one side, recognised the right to aspire to unity and to identify as Irish.
Il give them a go cause we already know FF/FG are making the situation worse so the natural thing a young person will do is give the others a go
Thats why they are polling so high
So the campaigns have to be identical?
More self serving rubbish there to be fair Mark.
..
So you do support the CIRA and the RIRA whose campaigns are different to the PIRA.
I didn't 'support' PIRA blanch. Said it many times and you should know by now. Understanding why a group exists (I understand why FG FF exist for eg) does not mean I support them.
The Real IRA would equate to Fianna Fail who didn't accept the terms of the Treaty, while the PIRA would equate to Fine Gael if you want to go down this route!
This is you:
How can a SF minister of defence or Taoiseach who is the head of the Irish government with a legitimate Irish Defence Forces and army and at the same time stand up and give a thumbs up to a terrorist organisation who claim to call itself the real 'Óglaigh na hÉireann'?
This is me:
Very easily I'd imagine.
The problem yourself and others seem to have is accepting there's a connection between the IRA and SF and SF are proud of that connection. Yourself and others mistakenly think they should be eternally apologetic for commemorating their heroes. It shows a woeful lack of understanding.
Less embarrassing for you if you simply ignore answers you don't like.
1918 Irish general election - Wikipedia
Proven wrong again brucie and francie
there was no mandate to form pira/sf just and the gfa showed that their terrorism was not in anyone's name but their own .
please stop stealing Irish history and culture its offensive
It is extremely offensive the way that they continually distort history. Straight out of George Orwell.
This thread is hilarious, all the crisis we face Housing, Health, Cost Living, College Costs, Childcare costs and the Govt fan boys spend the day talking about the Ra
Keep up the good work
A sham selective VIP only election under the eye of an occupying force might be a style of democracy for the right wing genesis of the self interested FG to be, but its not democracy.
Exact same as Collins and DeValera. Was their a referendum for the rising or Civil War or various killings? Were they elected by the people?
"Stealing history" :) give over. The inclusion of Redmond in the 1916 centenary and the attempt at commemorating the RIC/Tans is taking a **** on our history.
Very disappointing to see the the leader of the opposition shout across the chamber to the Taoiseach, repeatedly saying “you’re pathetic”.
All the mock theatrics used in our parliament to be instantly edited and uploaded to Sinn Fein social media. It is degraded to the office of Taoiseach and degrading to the house.
I lived most of my life when the government/opposition were led by civil war foes but Irish politics has become toxically polarised in recent years.
And Sinn a Fein leaders north and south spend their time unveiling monuments to dead IRA men.
Will Mary Lou continue to use a foreign flag as her social media profile pic if she becomes Taoiseach?
You don't like a perfectly descriptive word for the antics of a Taoiseach who was asked a question about a current situation facing the country. His deflection (like Enda who used the exact same tactics) was pathetic.
lol your defeated by actual history and evidence (abet wiki) once again
demands proof and links which are provided , then discounted as proving nothing coz the party knows better.
usual pattern
what do you mean same as Colling and De Valera btw ?
Was there a mandate for the Civil War. Frank Aiken was Chief of Staff of the Anti-Treaty IRA after Liam Lynch was killed. He is the one that pulled the plug on hostilities and became Minister for Defence in First Fianna Fail Dail (within 10 years of of being Chief of Staff of IRA) and later in his political career was Tanaiste. There are few PIRA volunteers who could live up to his ruthlessness - i.e., Altnaveigh Massacre.
So you have an issue with Mary Lou's support of the Palestine people? What exactly is your issue with the flag?
If she put up a flag of Ukraine would you have a problem??
The highest vote achieved by SF during the campaign of their armed wing in the south before they surrendered their arms was 2.5%. Even in the north it peaked at 15%.
That is not a mandate.
She asked him a question about cookoo funds blackmailing the Govt, he replied by talking about rape and the IRA.. A spoofer
