The regions have been separated from Kyiv control for years. It's well known Russian troops are there before this. The language was Putin going to takeover the entire country, hasn't happened. But the move means Minsk deal is dead. Russian troops have gone into two regions they be welcomed.

Even if he did, there's no way he can suppress a resistance that emerges from a wider population of 41 million people (Russia itself is 140 million).
The Ukraine is portrayed as some sort of minnow by large swathes of the media.
But the Ukraine is large, populous, and has a population with a proud history; the idea that Putin can waltz in and contain the country and that vast population is absurd.
