Higher oil and natural gas prices actually benefit the US, fracking is more expensive, I think I remember reading that Russia was keeping gas price low as to make fracking less viable due to the cost involved.
basically if gas and oil price increases Shale gas and oil become more profitable which will drive growth.
wether the US can deliver enough of it to Europe is a different matter.
No sign of a statement yet other than this Tweet from him:-
If he is covering some sort of illness and displaying erratic and increasingly dictatorial behavior then you would imagine that at the very least the Russian military would have concerns of where this is all going to end. If he gives the order for a full invasion of Ukraine what chance of a military coup?
Having courtesy and respect for democracy is not weak.
I am polite with my work colleagues. About once a year, I am forced to become scathing. People are always surprised by my ability to be very firm. You will see the same for Europe.
China has enough domestic issues on its front at the minute. Yes, Russia is their lackey. But geopolitically, China is in a very precarious position. And with or without NATO’s opposition, that won’t change
You need to get in touch with your countrymen and let them know it's ok to roll out the panzers again
Yes even absent your chart we know Russia is a huge gas producer. Yes, such sanctions are going to hurt EU countries badly, but it's looking like it may have to happen now + not doing it could have a higher cost long term.
What is your suggestion/point here?
Or is it just your usual one-eyed and childish Tory Brexiter gloating about something/anything that will harm the EU + EU member states? This is all a bit bigger than that imo.
Thankfully Russia are not powerful yes, but Europe is pathetically weak and China will come into the mix soon. Hopefully the west and in particular Europe grow a pair and galvanize after this.
Is this the end of Nord Stream 2?
Germans are going to be pissed.
You're advocating a policy of appeasement.
Russia is not powerful. He will galvanise the West against him.
Actually have a bad feeling in my stomach from that speech. It's really Adolf in 1939 vibes.
and? If the EU (which they are all members of) decided to remove Russia from swift, then I'm sure what your trying to portray has been factored into that decision. It's not like it's us here on boards that will be making the decision.
There's been suggestion he has parkinson's and may have stuffered a stroke at some point ,he completely disappeared from sight a few years back ,I'd be extremely surprised he wasn't failing mentally
Russia has a lot less power than the West. Its sabre ratting behaviours are the last vestiges of a fool. Russia is dying economically
Pretty much what Neville Chamberlain argued
no one here is going to know this but I doubt it. He’s an ex KGB tyrant who murders or tries to murder his opponents and his idealogy is expansionist nationalism so we shouldn’t be that surprised.
Was reported last year he may have early signs of dementia or Alzheimer's.
According to media reports at the time a number of top doctors in that field in Moscow disappeared suddenly.
If you look at the photo's of him with Macron at the end of the big table his face looks very puffy. I would not be surprised if he is I'll with something. He has been locked down for the last two years. It's quite possible that he is drugged to the hilt because of some illess
An interesting trend I've noticed lately, when someone doesn't agree and parrot back what they're told it's because they're "not listening".
Out of interest, how should the West have played it? I'd love if you could keep it fairly succinct. If it boils down to "Just give Putin everything he wants all the time" then just say that rather than wasting time.
No, not really but in a war that may last years, you need people to continue on as normally as possible despite the catastrophe happening around them, there's no use overreacting, you have to support the war effort and keep society together. You'll need all the morale you can get in the marathon ahead.
He should demand that the west come to their aid or they they will immediately hand the whole country to Russia without a fight. 😂In times like these you need to be crazy.
Genuine question, I wasn't overly worried about wholescale war until watching him this evening. Is there some sort of cognitive/nuerological illness going on?
you think Putin is going to stop with Donetsk and Luhansk?
Where can I watch this?
You don't. You cut them off. The world can live without Russia. Russia can't live without the world.
I think he should play it down and carry on. No point in destabilizing his own state with extra fear
Do you believe a word Putin says? honestly do you believe the stuff he came out with today as being factual and truth?
Zelensky to make a televised address to the Ukrainian people imminentely. A big moment for him. Does he merely condemn Putin's actions? Does he announce that people should prepare for war? Does he go further and order the Ukrainian military to begin returning fire along the line of contact?
china are only watching and barely waiting..
