Hi all,

Thought I'd share this. I bought a "used" Morec Tehtered 6m cable 7.6KWH charger (reviews are brilliant) off Amazon.es for €190 plus delivery. The electrician is installing for €360-€400. Grand total less than the Grant amount.

like lots of Amazon "used" stuff. It arrived in as new Condition with the plastic screen cover still on. I.e Unused but like damaged box.

Great price for a charge point. I never even considered ordering from abroad, just went with Qubev from UK manufacturer.

As for your spark cost, Jez is that not a very high price for his time and materials?

4 hours at 50 an hour (him and an apprentice) plus wire cost, 30 for isolator switch, plus 70 for the reci cert. Couldn't care less really as it's all in for 600.

Ive done this 5 times already over the years :)

All successful Grant aided.

The big difference nowadays is that you have to include the invoice for the charger and an invoice from the sparks so make sure to keep the receipts.

Nice one thanks for sharing. Some here have said many times this is possible, some have even proven it (like Gumbo) but most of the viewers don't seem to believe us for some reason. I'm no fan of subsidies, but when they are there and you qualify, do grab them with both hands and don't let yourself be ripped off!

7.6kw might be sold out, but I think you could buy the 22kw version which would still work. Check amazon.de for the same product.

Some of the charge points on the .es site are sold by Moreck themselves, so a lot less buyer protection than buying from Amazon.

€200 seems like a great price for a used CP but no indication of where it ships from i.e. is it China?

something to be mindful of when being installed are the CE marking etc

a sparks may not sign off on it if it hasn’t got the required certification paperwork too.

My first EV in 2017 was a used car so no grant, I got installed for less that €600 inc. Priority Switch.

Few years forward I sold my charger and priority switch (so that guy should have got installed for less than €600) and installed a Zappi2 for free given the grant and funds from selling on.

Totally possible to have a free charge point install

Shouldn’t make a difference. In a typical domestic setting, you just don’t connect the 2 and 3 phase cable.

That’s assuming the charger can operate on single phase too.

For example the Tesla chargers have 3 phase connections that are not used, my old bmw wall box has 3 phase connections that are not used at home too.

Finished install done last week. 550e all in. App works great too allowing all the smart features you need and also allowing you to control charging current. Very happy (aside from Red Isolation switch ha).

Looks like Amazon.es have Morec 7KW EV Charging Station "Second hand - Very good" at the moment for about €166 delivered, seems like good value and I am hoping to get a local Registered Electrical Contractor to do the install for me. Any watch outs to be aware of installing this charger like load balancing, earthing etc? Thanks in advance

Will the SEAI accept a receipt for a second hand charger? What if you buy one privately second hand on Donedeal?

Yep second hand chargers are fine, several people in here have done that. The electrician just has to sign off on the form. Great way to get the whole job done for under €600, in other words: completely free.

I'll probably go down this path. One thing that's worrying me is do I need to look out for smart or control options! I'm thinking if I had a smart meter and wanted some kind of smart control to charge when prices are lowest! But maybe the car could look after this end of things. Edit - I'll also probably get a heat pump this summer (for the house heating, not the car!). And maybe solar PV.

Any earthly reason why this wouldn't work as a 7.2kw home charger. Has a 32amp CEE plug but surely could be just hard-wired. Only €130.

The new form looks for a charger receipt otherwise the sparks receipt has to cover all parts and labour.
