kildare v Kerry , was to start at 1:45 but delayed by 15 minutes due to gridlock in the town. It’s the first match without limited numbers so was always going to be busy . Hearing from friends that it’s taking 45 minutes or more from M7 on all roads in.

GAA isn’t exactly my forte so thanks to both Harr & Damien for replying.

And congratulations to The Lilly Whites, assuming a draw against the Kingdom is a good outcome?

If an Ambulance had to come through the town, there would be no way for the cars on each side to pull over and let it travel through.

Seems like the plans will need to be tweeked somewhat.

I heard the match was delayed due to only 3 stiles/gates being open to admit people to the match, so queues were going out onto the main street. Considering it was the first fully open match and against one of the best teams, they should have had the foresight to open a few more.

    Hi all,

What is Morristown woods and the Oaks like to live ? Thinking of moving to Newbridge.

I read school places are hard, is this certain ages or across the board. With 4 primary schools you'd think there would be some places.

Sorry if this is not place to post..

    Thanks,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

Those are very different. Morristown woods is the new houses just last Sarsfields. The Oaks is a old estate and grand. Depending on which street you are on, parking on the road blocking access can be fun. Both are right beside schools. School places are all but impossible across all ages in the town. There are no new schools planned but there are lots of new houses currently in construction.

Another issue (or it was at least ) was obtaining a doctor as Your local.

Or at least it certainly was in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

Still the same. Heard Dr Bernard O’Shea (used to be behind Finlays) on Pat Kenny. Said Kildare has 45 doctors per 100,000. Typical for rest of EU is 100 per 100,000. Don’t know how kildare ranks nationally but the whole country has the same issue. Existing doctors are full and there are very few new ones coming in.

Shocking ratio. Yet not a whisper from any of the elected TD’s.

The only one I hear on the radio is Cathal Berry.

Secondary school places are more scarce in my experience. For primary, try St Patrick's. Very good school.

Thanks all so both areas fine 😊. Hopefully schools work out. GPs will be hassle too it looks like.

I presume you mean Dr Brendan O'Shea.

He was not behind Finlays (unless more than 15 years ago) - he was the Bridge Medical Practice opposite the car park to the train station and now located in Newbridge Retail Park above the pharmacy and opposite Supervalu.

He's also an excellent GP has has embraced the phone/zoom mode of appointments where this is suitable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

You are correct. He was behind Finlays but as you say it’s quite some time ago.

Another +1 for The Bridge Medical Centre.

    Decent folk there.

Was looking to take train from Newbridge to the city center. Almost 25€ with the Luas - what the actual fck. This should be a consideration for anyone thinking to live in Newbridge and commute 2-3 days a week using the train. My office has free parking, it's 55km return, that would cost approx 10-15€ on fuel per day comparing to these train price. Sickening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

This has come up a few times. There is a saving with the tax saver tickets for workers. I don’t think that includes parking at the station either. But, Newbridge has high prices because we pay a premium for having a mainline train stop at the station every so often. For example, Newbridge to Heuston is €10.49 each way before 10am on a weekday (one way) but Sallins to Heuston is €4.90 before 10am. It would pay you to drive to Sallins before getting the train. We are a commuter town and prices should reflect that and be closer to Sallins price.

Yes. This is an issue (or will be) for a lot of people who previously had an annual Taxsaver ticket and commuted to the office for most of the working week.

They might be returning to the office one or two days a week now so have to buy return tickets each time.

Fine if you go to Sallins but going to be terribly expensive from Newbridge. I thought there might have been some measures to address this but sadly no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭cagefactor

It would also pay to drive to the Luas at the red cow car park than pay these extortion prices. You are right about price at Sallins, just checked. And also yes, forgot about the pay parking at the station (3-4€?). I can be at Sallins in less than 10 mins at 6.45am in the morning.

Off topic question here folks, and not specific to Newbridge, but with all the new estates being built around the town - where can one see the prices? On daft all of them appear to come up as price available on request. Is there anywhere to see how much these houses are going for without putting yourself on a waiting list?

I'm liking the new cycle lanes. - and I don't cycle

1 - Cars are driving much slower on that section where they used to go a fair speed

2 - I was walking along to go to Ulster bank from Whitewater and I felt a great separation from the traffic as I got to the area with the cycle lanes. It was almost like a buffer.

Hopefully it's part of a more joined up system and just 300m on its own is neither here nor there.

Can anyone recommend a dogsitter in the area, who keeps dogs in his/her own home?

Is hard water an issue in Newbridge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

The water supply changed a few years ago from the polluphuca supply to the Barrow supply.

The water used to be soft and it is definitely harder but there not too much fur in the kettle. The bigger issue with the Barrow supply is the taste. There is an awful lot of chlorine so we buy our drinking water and filter (Brita jug) the tap water for drinking also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,956 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

I would agree with every word You say Damien. The taste is awful sometimes.

    Hi

I have to attend a function at the Congo Memorial on The Curragh next weekend. I never knew there was a memorial for The Congo. And I have no idea where it is located. Anyone know, I'd appreciate that.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,250 ✭✭✭Damien360

there are 2 memorials in the curragh camp that I know of. One is beside the fire station on the far side of that small carpark outside the church. The other is further in on that same side. From the Newbridge direction, turn right when you see the old post office. Go through the barrier and continue down past the school, about half way then turn right and there is a very nice memorial there beside the parachute guys area (it’s named on building). Likely one of those two. The function will likely will be in the mess on that same side near the school.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,956 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

Thanks for that Damien. I am aware of the memorial near the Fire Station. I’ll go out and check it this coming weekend.

    Many thanks again Damien.
