The current sanctions (related to 2014) are targeted, aimed more at individuals, Putin's inner circle, etc.
If Putin were to invade Ukraine, then sanctions would be much more severe and far-reaching. Obviously there can't be a situation where US troops and Russian troops would be shooting at each other, that would be a world war.
For the fanatics: It's possible to criticise both sides of a crisis. Just because you hate country X doesn't mean you have to defend opposing country Y. No need to dredge up ancient or unrelated history. A current administration isn't responsible for something another administration did decades ago. Likewise a modern administration isn't being "hypocritical" criticising a potential invasion just because you can find something negative in their history.
There has been friction between the West and Russia for decades. Even a speaker at the Conservative Party conference wanted to attack Russia.
Yes they can. Drones would pick up better imagery for certain purposes though. The leap is not a technological one, but would be in getting international agreement on how the data is used, or whether it's used at all and on agreeing which body should oversee operations. The UN? Red Cross?
They can already tell that through satellite surveillance ,they can even track exactly where and what was fired .
The only ones relying on social media are us joe so's
^In the case above, a network of surveillance drones could confirm whether shots were fired, where they came from, provide clues as to the chain of command and no need to rely on second-hand media accounts. If you are right, such a system would confirm it.
If CCTV prevents crime (and, the argument goes, those who reject CCTV only do so because they something to hide), then perhaps an independently maintained drone-based surveillance system could help prevent war crimes. It would certainly provide extra clarity. Light being a disenfectant (even in the infra red) etc.
Absolute nonsense, I've never heard such crap in all my life. How many years are you stretching back to find these 16 chinese conflicts? How exactly do you define a border conflict?
Illegal dumping and illegal fishing😂 grasping at straws here trying to paint China as the bad guy, China are boy scouts compared to US endeavours in the last 20 years. Look I get it, your brainwashed. Everything not Western is bad, they're all animals in Russia, China, the middle East etc.
@Enter name here take 1 day away from CA, when you come back do not post in this thread again
Putin seems to do what he wants, sanctions don't work, he invades Ukraine, takes it over, and the US stops him buying a stetson cowboy hat, and then the USA will tell the world '' that'll teach Putin'' . The USA is weak, gone are the days that they randomly drop atomic bombs on innocent people going about their business.
The Russian troops are there for he taking, one step into the Ukraine and the USA should take them out by air.
More propaganda Ukraine attacked the separatists and blew up 5 buildings,
No evidence of the 5 buildings Been blown up have been produced not any evidence of an attack
I know the Russians don't give a hoot (and in fauirness there are some hawks in D.C. that don't give a hoot about international law/the U.N.), but it would still be good to have an independent formal mechanism for recording war crimes, such as targetting of civilians. It's like being a victim of domestic violence and keeping a record of every time a line has been crossed. It's not the entire answer, but it part of the answer and it has to be done.
No such thing as non aligned in Europe ,and as seen with Russia shooting down flight MH17 over ukraine ,they were able to directly interfere with the investigation even to the point where the term Shooting down was removed from UN documents at the orders of putin
It would have to be non-aligned (as per my ninja edit :) )
Or for some to cry about the American surveillance,
Shooting down an airliner didn't phase the Russians much
I'd like to see independently managed, internationally funded, 'non-aligned'/non-combatant surveillance drones monitoring the battlefield as a matter of course in all future conflicts.
They could be used to keep an eye on all parties. Would provide helpful data for investigating contentious incidents and claims. Shooting one down would be a war crime.
No not really .
It's about control and trying to bring back an empire that never actually existed
yes it has nothing to do with the threat of nuclear war and the inevitable destruction. its the very reason Western leaders are so perplexed, Putin gains nothing and in a conventional war, Russia is destroyed. But in a nuclear war nobody wins.
@greenpilot any idea on this one
Not even close, looks like something someone built in a garage as a hobby
Look to be a clone of the American predator drone
@greenpilot your posts are brill. Keep up the good work.
Speaking of UAV's, I had a look at this un-named airfield in Crimea ( East) and spotted two UAV's on the tarmac. These are the much celebrated Orion "drone Killers".
No sign of them being airborne over last 2 weeks.
“History and agreements seem to be lost on you or you have fallen prey to the woke propaganda being fed to you daily. NATO was supposed to be dissolved in the aftermath of WW2….”
Oh my days. That’s a real spit out the coffee sentence if ever I’ve seen one!
🤣👏👍
Usually below room temperature with most Kremlin fanboys
Attention.
What appears to be a Global Hawk ( invalid transponder code, but originated in Sicily) is currently over Ukraine on its extended mission.
Also,
An EC-135 is signals gathering over Ukrainian aerospace, taking over from last nights one.
Finally,
A KC-10 Air-refuelling platform is on station in Romania for the last few hours, (coincidentally right along the path of the Global Hawk, however these refuel autonomously)
Considering NATO was only founded in 1949, how did that poor sod think Nato should have been disbanded at the end of ww2,
The intelligence levels are in minus numbers
I'm looking forward to joining the Irish anti-war coalition and the rest of them as we take to the streets en-mass to the Russian embassy to protest when they see what is about to be visited upon the Ukrainians.
Oh wait...
Show me the written agreement between USSR and NATO of no expansion?thats right there isnt any
Maybe check out Budapest memorandum instead,Comrade
A Russian on Twitter made a very simple comment on this: If Europe and the US wanted to end this war fast it should just offer EU or US citizenship to any Russia soldier who defects. It would be done.
Something the Putinbots on here should think about but won't
Why wait, I'll say it now. Biden has been pushing for a conflict since his poll numbers walked off a cliff. History and agreements seem to be lost on you or you have fallen prey to the woke propaganda being fed to you daily. NATO was supposed to be dissolved in the aftermath of WW2 but it wasn't it was fed more by America to bolster there ever expanding reach. Agreements were made for ex USSR states to be exempt from joining NATO again ignored by the Americans and NATO. Now look at the comparisons between the Cuban missile crisis and the current situation, would seem quite hypocritical from the American POV wouldn't it.
And lastly for those over educated woke warriors who identify as opposite sex blah blah blah you think they are going to take up arms and protect you?
Personally I look forward to the incoming incursion, as the world needs a woke cleansing which is what this will become.
