I'd usually slaughter them, it's a weakness that's only going to get worse
Anyone ever come across this? Anal prolapse in a ewe lamb. She could be fine for a month between it happening.
I'd always be miking good ewes here but we'd have cows colostrum as well,
in the event of of natural colostrum not being available we have found
to be one of the best alternatives ,
the internet is full of google experts who claim the bought colostrum is useless but we have proved otherwise.
nothing beats the natural product and proper management, but even at the best of times nature often needs a helping hand.
The usual case with a small triplet, had to take him off mother and under a light getting feed cow beestings for the last week, just not thriving, any one use provita jump start, see it on agri direct
No just litter size. Extra pens would be needed
This usually works.

Have a Ewe that had twins yesterday evening, lambed herself and today she is not letting one of the lambs suck. He was roaring when I went to the shed this morning and she going round in circles in the pen to stop him sucking.
Any advice on how to get her to accept the lamb ?
Some of tehm would've only got one chance to go in lamb if it was 30 days, we'd always leave the ram out 36 days to ensure they all get time for two cycles.
We always breed the ewe lambs here and they get another chance if they don't breed, but if they don't breed as hoggets then they're gone as they're at their best when they're hoggets
The ram was in for around 30 days. Would be the year befores ewe lambs
How long was the ram in with them?. Last yrs ewe lambs or the year before?
Without a doubt.i am the king of what if...always said if a had 500 ewes would not be checking them as often..the.few lambs are nice though and keep the children interested for when I need help with the boring dry hoggets 😀
Just shows you that most of the things people worry about don't happen.
Update on my ewe...she lambed last night..big single lamb..milk had come on a lot in the meantime and even more since..Happy days
That's me finished lambing for 2022.
7 ewes. 4 twins 2 triplets and a single 😀 no casualties..
Now all we need is a bit.of.nice weather and growth..
We get the ewe 2 feeder at midland veterinary in tullamore or edenderry.
I see agrihealth in monaghan has them too..... I'm sure plenty places stock them
When we had a lot of sheep we wouldn't have had enough accomadation to keep lambs in a week so they'd have to go out. You might have to pick up an odd lamb, but you'd monitor them close. You're mixed grazing which suits early lambing better, always plenty of land for them if most of the cattle is in off the land.
I’ve bought if Fayne valley a few times and they are always competitive and very good to deal with.
You definitely would have losses letting out week old lambs out here to day. Horizontal rain and even the best mothering ewes lambs will get separated.
We found a 3 week old lamb huddled a few days ago. Must have pneumonia or something, he survived after 2 days ICU but has now joined pets
We have the fields closed since September and October and have good covers.
Important to keep rotation and keep them off grazed ground otherwise we will run short of grass in April. Some fun moving 2 sets of 4 strand fence in this weather.
We have already moved lambing from early Jan to late January early February and don't intend to move any later.
4 stragglers left to lamb this week and 40ish ewe lambs starting 20 March
That's exactly what I'm looking for, any recommendations on where to pick up, I see fane Valley have one but would prefer to purchase down here.
We find with the bottles that they start to guzzling them and end up with pot bellies, well that's what I'm putting it down to
did you group them to expectant due date as well as litter size?
Being cost effective doesn't really come into it, you either feed them well and have lambs or restrict them and have runts...
We use the ewe 2 feeder here, We start them on warm milk and then change them onto cold milk as quick as possible, maybe two weeks old, they'd rob you if you kept feeding warm milk.
Wean on to good quality creep and grass at 35days old. We usually make €30 but this year it was near €60 per lamb. It'd be more profitable to sell them at a week old but I've seen too many treated badly. Most people haven't a clue
i think having the milk with the lambs all the time is better than feeedin a few times a day. They suck a bottle so fast that it can't be good for them
They're better off in today any way, sheep are very adaptable, I see no disadvantage in housing ewes.
With the straw feeding when they pull the straw in under themselves they're actually bedding themselves so they're doing my work.
Feeding hay here for convience, a lot of waste , only about 80 ewes at present. Wonder If I cut back hay and increased meal might work out as cheep. No problem having a dry bed
Built a sheep shed in mid eighties 25 ewes per pen . Plenty of feed space .Biggest problem was them pulling in hay or silage and wasting it .Picking out the sweetest bits I presume
Lads, new to the lambing game here, my father looked after the sheep, I have a lot of triples, usually I'd rear them as pets but done badly last few years eventhough a lot of work went into feeding them little and often.that could be down to not correctly mixing it Leaving 3 on a sheep isn't great either as all suffer. So any recommendations for automatic feeding, I could have 15 pets so has to be cost effective. Thanks
lack of exercise would be one thing I’d think that could cause ewes to get “lazy” .
saying that, I only housed in loose shed. I fed them in a round feeder and had to let them out to a yard to feed meal, which possible caused hurts too as they rushed out, leading to other problems.
did you house in a sheep shed with group pens yourself?
What effect would housing have on the ewe?. Once they are footbathed and well fed I can't see a problem . Had a big flock here years ago, housed from early December to lambing mid March never a problem
Have Hoggets I bought last year that were empty after scanning should I send them to the factory with the rest of the cull ewes or give them another chance as they are such your breeding stock and could get a few years out of them ? Financially I will be taking a hit sending them to the factory as of course I bought them dear last spring.
I have a ewe 2 lamb feeder but they work of the fish tank heater. It’s simple and works
Just did a quick Google search and there science behind the motillium and milk production..studies done on cows/sheep/goats
